Not doing this, but it seems to be a cross between popping bubble wrap and pass-the-parcel.

I just got addicted to Puzzle Craft thanks to your Gamecenter profile, I don't need another thing vying for my time

oh puzzle craft, u r a traet, too bad i am spending all my time on curiosity and the simpsons tapped out game because i am a sucker

tiniest homeless (jjjusten), Thursday, 13 December 2012 20:57 (twelve years ago)

I got into a habit of dipping into it every few days to see whether anything interesting was happening but nothing ever was. Now I tend to check the wiki page every week or so instead.

JimD, Friday, 14 December 2012 09:00 (twelve years ago)

Lol@ wiki: Peter Molyneux has said that "what is inside the cube is life-changingly amazing by any definition".[2] Critics have stated that the game designer might be over-promising.

Oh great, so 'Goddess' is going to be a MMORPG where people punch each other in the dick over and over.

great story; what a debacle

the plight of y0landa (forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 11 February 2015 15:52 (ten years ago)

best part imo is the kid's token 20-something "whatevs" attitude

Nhex, Wednesday, 11 February 2015 19:25 (ten years ago)

(though he's clearly annoyed)

Nhex, Wednesday, 11 February 2015 19:25 (ten years ago)

Burst out laughing when I read the line "Guaranteeing is a very strong word". Read a rumour that the Curiosity cube had infinite layers with a means to switch to an endgame of a certain amount of layers when they felt it had run its course, making the microtransactions even more pointless than they already were as they were not speeding up the process in any way.

woof, Friday, 13 February 2015 12:58 (ten years ago)

great interview - wish more developers got monstered by journalists like that tbh

bizarro gazzara, Friday, 13 February 2015 13:16 (ten years ago)

Amazing. Almost tweeted it but then noticed Molyneux is trending already

Drop soap, not bombs (Ste), Friday, 13 February 2015 14:32 (ten years ago)

Man oh man, that interview is brutal - I actually found myself reading it faster to try and get it over with quicker.

CraigG, Friday, 13 February 2015 15:56 (ten years ago)

GamerGaters seem largely confused because it's RPS and also it's about a boy - a lot of bitching about why no-one will open with that question to Anita Sarkeesian and Brianna Wu.

Andrew Farrell, Friday, 13 February 2015 16:18 (ten years ago)

brutal but fair and actually respectful! molyneux just not been called on his shit for a long long time.

the plight of y0landa (forksclovetofu), Friday, 13 February 2015 17:00 (ten years ago)

i'm about a third of the way through this interview and it's amazing

Nhex, Friday, 13 February 2015 19:00 (ten years ago)

letting molyneux actually go on for so long in uninterrupted chunks really demonstrating his sociopathy

Nhex, Friday, 13 February 2015 19:01 (ten years ago)

yeh this was kinda great

♛ LIL UNIT ♛ (thomp), Saturday, 14 February 2015 04:03 (ten years ago)

yeah, maybe, but if anyone deserves it, it's Molyneux

Nhex, Saturday, 14 February 2015 08:20 (ten years ago)

I do think that opening with questioning his mental health is probably outside the bounds of 'respectful', but yeah in context this is great work, and will hopefully lead to some sort of state change in PM.

are you... advocating for ethics in games journalism?

bizarro gazzara, Saturday, 14 February 2015 09:41 (ten years ago)

Scanning thru this since it's massively cringeworthy, but hitting lines like this

RPS: I don’t doubt for a moment that you work very hard, it’s very obvious that you do work very hard, and I imagine your team works extremely hard, but that’s not really relevant.

and you realize PM is doing the Dubya thing and using "it's Hard Work!" as an hilariously clueless excuse for why shit isn't getting done

Delbert Gravy (kingfish), Saturday, 14 February 2015 10:08 (ten years ago)

I also found it awkward that his entire staff seem to be sat within earshot for the entire interview, presumably working away on said games.

Drop soap, not bombs (Ste), Saturday, 14 February 2015 14:08 (ten years ago)

Peter Molyneux: Yet! Yet. That we haven’t done yet. There is one Kickstarter promise that I am very worried about but all the rest are going to get done.

RPS: Which is Linux. You made it a stretch goal; that was pretty shitty of you, wasn’t it, when you know you couldn’t do it?

That interview was ROUGH. Like, unprofessional. It's amazing dude stayed on the phone long enough through that entire thing, because the interview was constantly interrupting him and just being rude. He's like some FOX commentator constantly hammering on about something. At one point they get into this thing where the interviewer is fixated on him doing press when he said he wasn't going to do press and keeps going back to that. Who cares? The reaction against this guy is way overblown imo.

I finally saw the Curiosity Cube game. WOW, LOL. It always sounded like a glorified lottery ticket and turns out it's not that far from the truth, only the lottery winner doesn't get anything. If you are upset at this guy it is YOUR OWN FAULT for giving him all these chances. It is funny that he has this history now of being a shyster and yet millions of people played this cube game. If you played that and donated to his kickstarter you are an idiot this guy is a con artist and you should not be upset about him wanting to do mobile games but glad because that is the perfect place for his 'game design'.

ok I guess I walked into that

♛ LIL UNIT ♛ (thomp), Saturday, 14 February 2015 16:59 (ten years ago)

NAGL all the sites piling onto this guy at the moment. I mean, it sucks he made these kickstarter promises that went unfulfilled, but I wish these kind of character assassination pieces were about Ubisoft quality control or EA jerking their customers around or something other than what sounds like a handful of people trying to make several games on half a million dollars.

©Oz Quiz© (Adam Bruneau), Saturday, 14 February 2015 17:15 (ten years ago)

the moral outrage component of this is stupid but really can't we sit back and lol at this windbag cheeseball get clowned

adam, Saturday, 14 February 2015 17:59 (ten years ago)

but but he made some good games in the late 80s and early 90s

♛ LIL UNIT ♛ (thomp), Sunday, 15 February 2015 07:11 (ten years ago)

Molyneux must be shocked to find out that gamers and game journos are angry, vengeful moralizers

english fatuus (Noodle Vague), Sunday, 15 February 2015 07:28 (ten years ago)

Yeah the one confusing aspect of this to me is that there was any hero worship in the first place to get shattered. I mean kudos for inventing god games and populous was pretty cool but otherwise ¯\(°_o)/¯. Fwiw I never really got the steve jobs thing either.

ledge, Sunday, 15 February 2015 08:51 (ten years ago)

i've always wanted to but never really been able to get into Molyneux's stuff bar Fable, too many games full of tiny people running around doing their own thing while i frantically wrestle with the interface trying to keep up, not much fun ime

english fatuus (Noodle Vague), Sunday, 15 February 2015 09:29 (ten years ago)

Bah, I saw but have lost an article that explained that pretty well - basically most video game developers are terrible interview subjects, but Molyneux was always good for two pages of dreams and plans and three eye-catching quotes. The Bobby Gillespie of video game professionals.

(also of course of course never underestimate "He made some great games when I was a kid")

Andrew Farrell, Sunday, 15 February 2015 09:36 (ten years ago)

It would be cool if someone opened an interview with "Why are you a pathological liar" and they were interviewing a US Senator or something. Videogames? Who cares?

I don't understand people getting so upset about videogames. It's not like these games are spreading viruses or catching your computer on fire or anything. You don't have to buy it. Jesus.

©Oz Quiz© (Adam Bruneau), Sunday, 15 February 2015 23:33 (ten years ago)

half million dollars in crowdfunding for a game that hasn't materialized will piss a number of people off

the plight of y0landa (forksclovetofu), Sunday, 15 February 2015 23:57 (ten years ago)

Is three years really an unfeasibly long time, though? Surely a lot of other AAA titles have taken as long.

the plight of y0landa (forksclovetofu), Monday, 16 February 2015 00:09 (ten years ago)

But don't people want the artist to have complete control over his creation? Cos videogames are such an important medium?

©Oz Quiz© (Adam Bruneau), Monday, 16 February 2015 00:17 (ten years ago)

Isn't the main impetus behind crowdsourcing that no longer is the great artist beholden to things like deadlines and inflexible business plans?

©Oz Quiz© (Adam Bruneau), Monday, 16 February 2015 00:18 (ten years ago)

I have to admit I did lol at the bit where Molyneux whined "my team were in the office til 8.30 last night!".

(my ex frequently pulled midnight or laters working for 4tari).

this is a heckuva hail mary. i for one would be perfectly happy for the great artist to be beholden to her/his patrons to the extent that maybe he/she ponies up some fucking great art
