Nothing from my list is on either of those lists.
― JimD, Friday, 14 December 2012 14:08 (twelve years ago)
I know bitching about lists is a fool's errand but koa: amalur is pretty good! And street fighter x tekken is laughably bad. That's the game that had DLC 'gems' which altered gameplay.
― adam, Friday, 14 December 2012 14:21 (twelve years ago)
dishonored only game from above on my list
― Mordy, Friday, 14 December 2012 14:29 (twelve years ago)
dishonored might be the only game i've played, aside from a small handful of non-essential iphone efforts. time to retire from the board?

nah that's a definitive gaming experience in 2012!

I have only played two of the games listed so far (Walking Dead and Xenoblade), partly because I never buy games at full retail price.

2012: the year when I said fuck it, all the 2010 games I bought on sale in 2011 aren't getting played, I'm just gonna play minor iOs games

Forbes could have just dropped ME3 and had five games in the top 5 but no.

so apparently some of these were so good that they traveled forward in time and got released in 2012?

Ok guys it's that time of the year where I buy one Xbox 360 game. Do I go for CoD: Black Ops II (I have Battlefield 3) or Dishonored?

if you can only buy one driving game
NFS:MW or forza horizon?
― god hates frogbs (cozen), Sunday, 16 December 2012 18:52 (twelve years ago)
I don't own an xbox so NFS wins by default.
― EZ Snappin, Sunday, 16 December 2012 18:53 (twelve years ago)

Neither?
Isn't Need for Speed Most Wanted basically the same game as Burnout Paradise (i.e. the worst Burnout game), but now at 30 FPS instead of 60? I mean, BP did some interesting things and it wasn't horrible, but I'm not sure there's a need to play it again? Unless you never played it, in which case you could probably pick it up very cheap instead of the new version...
And Forza Horizon? I haven't really been following what this is about exactly, but I think it's supposed to be a more casual Forza, developed by a 2nd tier studio and set in a semi-open world? It also runs at 30 FPS instead of the 60 you get in the main/real Forza games by Turn 10. But one of the things though that really annoys me about Forza in recent years (and this game is no different) is how much content from the game ends up being DLC - I seem to remember reading this game would end up with over $60 US of DLC shit...

what do you recommend to someone who has not played any of the Burnouts
― Nhex, Sunday, 16 December 2012 21:59 (twelve years ago)
Probably the 360 version of Burnout Revenge... or Burnout 3 if you can stand going back a generation.
― JCL, Sunday, 16 December 2012 22:14 (twelve years ago)
Both of which are downloadable on 360 apparently. $10 for the xbox one and $15 for the 360 game. I wonder how they hold up?
― JCL, Sunday, 16 December 2012 22:25 (twelve years ago)
any racing games from this year you like JCL?
― god hates frogbs (cozen), Sunday, 16 December 2012 23:57 (twelve years ago)
The easy answer abt nfs:mw vs forza is nfs if you like arcade racers and forza if you like sims. Also, I liked burnout paradise, but nfsmw is better in every possible way. It's an incredible game.
― tiniest homeless (jjjusten), Monday, 17 December 2012 00:35 (twelve years ago)
I haven't bought any...
I feel like it's the genre that has suffered the most because of the extended generation. The racing games now are all kind of the same (as games that have come out before), and in fact, many have gotten worse & less ambitious. I feel like there's not a ton of reasons to pick up these new games at full retail. Maybe when they get discounted heavily.
When the next generation starts, perhaps the genre can come back - hopefully the new consoles will be good enough to support improved, true 1080p graphics, 60 FPS and a full field of racers online (not just 8-12 or whatever of today's games). But honestly, I don't think there's a lot more these kinds of games can offer that hasn't been done pretty well already.
