bnw, Monday, 7 July 2008 21:01 (seventeen years ago)

how long is the 360's lifecycle? Are we already halfway through?

El Tomboto, Monday, 7 July 2008 21:04 (seventeen years ago)

ok no, they say they're going to keep the 360 supported for a decade.

El Tomboto, Monday, 7 July 2008 21:07 (seventeen years ago)

not this decade tho amirite? </RRoD zing>

czn, Monday, 7 July 2008 21:13 (seventeen years ago)

I don't think the new DS will be shown just yet (maybe next year?)
Too early for Portal 2
I would guess new xbox would be in 2010 or 2011

I'm hoping Geometry Wars 2 will be released during the MS press conference! Then Sony will counter-attacks by finally releasing Wipeout HD.

Jeff LeVine, Monday, 7 July 2008 21:25 (seventeen years ago)

segagaga 2

czn, Tuesday, 8 July 2008 10:21 (seventeen years ago)

wii harddrive, surely.

forksclovetofu, Tuesday, 8 July 2008 11:55 (seventeen years ago)

seriously?

El Tomboto, Tuesday, 8 July 2008 22:23 (seventeen years ago)

At this point, not having enough storage is fuckin' with their wiiware business model. If they don't do it, I would imagine a second party would. Fifty to a hundred bucks for a 5 to 10 gig attachment sounds like it'd sell.

forksclovetofu, Tuesday, 8 July 2008 22:28 (seventeen years ago)

Standard SD card capacities range from 8 MB to 4 GB and for high capacity SDHC cards 8 MB to 32 GB as of 2008.

El Tomboto, Tuesday, 8 July 2008 22:33 (seventeen years ago)

or I guess the Wii can only address up to 2GB worth of sectors in the SD slot.

El Tomboto, Tuesday, 8 July 2008 22:35 (seventeen years ago)

GTA4 DLC previews.

goldeneye...on XBLA

From what I hear, Rare already made this (or at least demoed it), but then Nintendo said no, so it didn't get finised/released.

;_;

romance of the three kingdoms XXVIII

phil-two, Tuesday, 8 July 2008 23:20 (seventeen years ago)

It does seem oddly shortsighted of Nintendo to push WiiWare so hard but then completely leave out any storage solution, but then again, they've blown it with online enough times that anything's possible.

Nhex, Wednesday, 9 July 2008 03:31 (seventeen years ago)

I don't think they've blown it, I think they've focussed on playing games with your friends rather than 12-year-olds and sociopaths, and as a result have had to make do with selling more consoles than anyone else.

Andrew Farrell, Wednesday, 9 July 2008 12:19 (seventeen years ago)

Tell that to my friends who have I have to trade friend codes with for every single freaking game on the DS. I was a GameCube owner last generation too, so I'm pretty jaded when it comes to Nintendo in this area...

Nhex, Wednesday, 9 July 2008 16:06 (seventeen years ago)

(and why IS Planet Puzzle League the only DS game that does in-game internet voice chat, with the DS's features it's a no-brainer) but this is getting kind of off track. Either way E3 is kind of a shell of what it once was, I'm not expecting anything too crazy.

Nhex, Wednesday, 9 July 2008 16:08 (seventeen years ago)

I don't think andrew was referring to nintendo's online efforts when he referred to playing with your friends - I don't think anyone can seriously think that nintendo's online implementation is anything but laughable at this point; it is far too fiddly and lacks a lot of the features that 360 owners take for granted

not that I'm arguing there isn't the problem of teenagers and sociopaths with the 360 but the online experience is just so much smoother and enjoyable; not more enjoyable than playing with your friends obv. but that presumes you have friends who like playing video games

czn, Wednesday, 9 July 2008 16:19 (seventeen years ago)

sorry that's not really fair to nintendo - there's lots that's great about their online stuff (wiiware, the channels) but until they do away with friend codes and move to a friends list system they're borked

czn, Wednesday, 9 July 2008 16:21 (seventeen years ago)

Wii Punch-Out?

zappi, Friday, 11 July 2008 14:23 (seventeen years ago)

Man, I hope so!

forksclovetofu, Friday, 11 July 2008 17:22 (seventeen years ago)

I keep seeing the EEE and thinking this thread is about Eee PCs or something.

Will M., Friday, 11 July 2008 18:24 (seventeen years ago)

ok, nobody saw this coming ...
http://www.nintendo.com/whatsnew/detail/eMMuRj_N6vntHPDycCJAKWhEO9zBvyPH

zappi, Monday, 14 July 2008 17:27 (seventeen years ago)

obviously anything which points towards widespread adoption of 1:1 is a big win (especially if it means 1:1 in that Star Wars lightsaber duelling game and the rumored upcoming Wii Punch-Out), but isn's this just the motion-sensing equivalent to the N64's graphical expansion pak? that sure didn't turn out too well...

jamescobo, Monday, 14 July 2008 17:51 (seventeen years ago)

it depends what they do with it i suppose. packed in free with Wii Sports 2?

zappi, Monday, 14 July 2008 17:55 (seventeen years ago)

yeah, laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaame unless it's free in which case okay then.

forksclovetofu, Monday, 14 July 2008 18:08 (seventeen years ago)

This MS conference is ZZzzzzzz ...

Allen, Monday, 14 July 2008 18:44 (seventeen years ago)

portal 2 and geometry wars 2 coming soon to xbla

czn, Monday, 14 July 2008 18:53 (seventeen years ago)

that movies game presentation was sooooooo awkward, almost a ridge racer giant crab level of MAKE THEM STOP PLEASE.
still, portal 2!

zappi, Monday, 14 July 2008 18:55 (seventeen years ago)

Does anyone here care about FFXIII?

Allen, Monday, 14 July 2008 19:09 (seventeen years ago)

for old times' sake

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2g1fr5vk72M

czn, Monday, 14 July 2008 19:13 (seventeen years ago)

The Portal expansion pack was definitely a surprise to me. Cool on them. I wonder how many levels it'll be? And if it will show up on PC?

Jeff LeVine, Monday, 14 July 2008 19:48 (seventeen years ago)

wiimotionplus

five hundred and 99 us dollars

(sry just goofing around w/older EEE footage)

czn, Monday, 14 July 2008 19:53 (seventeen years ago)

so with wii motionplus inserted on the wiimote can you plug a nunchuck into the bottom of the expansion pak?

czn, Monday, 14 July 2008 19:55 (seventeen years ago)

http://www.bizarrecreations.com/games/geometry_wars_retro_evolved_2

Jeff LeVine, Monday, 14 July 2008 20:32 (seventeen years ago)

i care about FFXIII, if for no reason other than that's REALLY gotta chafe sony!

Will M., Monday, 14 July 2008 20:33 (seventeen years ago)

yeah that seems kind of a huge deal
am of course stoked for whatever ridiculous silly demo iwata plans to put on tomorrow

El Tomboto, Tuesday, 15 July 2008 03:47 (seventeen years ago)

I'm pretty damn curious too. The more precise movement add-on seems kind of weird but it doesn't really cater strongly to anyone except for a small hardcore group who might want more accurate lightsaber fights or baseball bat simulation. Of course I fully expect whatever demo they show tomorrow to blow this theory to pieces.

(also kinda interesting they seem to be ditching the nunchuk with this thing)

Nhex, Tuesday, 15 July 2008 04:52 (seventeen years ago)

yeah the nunchuk is a caveat to the hardcore who do not know how to live without an analog nipple under at least one thumb. what this is going to do is enable a whole variety of interactions with movement beyond the one-axis minigame type things which have been par for the course. unfortunately I cannot think of any specific activity ridiculous enough that would use full 1:1 3d motion capture while only requiring one hand.

For all we know though he's going to get up there with TWO of them, and start KNITTING

El Tomboto, Tuesday, 15 July 2008 04:59 (seventeen years ago)

The nunchuck still plugs into the back, I think

Jeff LeVine, Tuesday, 15 July 2008 05:29 (seventeen years ago)

I know the Roku or a computer attached to the tv would do the same thing, but I gotta say that the Netflix partnership + price cut + eventual FFXIII - red ring issues = me FINALLY gettin' and Xbox by year's end.

forksclovetofu, Tuesday, 15 July 2008 06:15 (seventeen years ago)

they still need to make it in a form factor that I wouldn't want to hide in a brown paper bag. a price cut is nice and probably signals that the Jasper chipset will be in full swing by August, but I think I'll wait it out until Valhalla next year, if I ever wind up getting one.

El Tomboto, Tuesday, 15 July 2008 06:35 (seventeen years ago)

no argument on that point, it's ugly as sin and screams college dorm.

forksclovetofu, Tuesday, 15 July 2008 06:55 (seventeen years ago)

New 3D Sonic that will be shit
A whole new Nintendo handheld that isn't a DS redesign
A new handheld from Microsoft, labelled 'iphone killer' for no apparent reason
Another Zelda that's the same as all the other Zeldas
Gran Turismo 26 or whatever it's up to

Autumn Almanac, Tuesday, 15 July 2008 08:15 (seventeen years ago)

the dynamic DNA announcement is definitely the coolest reveal so far

Allen, Tuesday, 15 July 2008 17:06 (seventeen years ago)

Ha, no Kid Icarus! IGN is a bunch of chumps.

Allen, Tuesday, 15 July 2008 17:08 (seventeen years ago)

Missed the first half of the nintendo thing, but the second half sure was underwhelming

Jeff LeVine, Tuesday, 15 July 2008 17:14 (seventeen years ago)

animal crossing city folk is exciting tho!!

czn, Tuesday, 15 July 2008 17:18 (seventeen years ago)

wow, that was a surprisingly amateurish presentation, like an hour long infomercial caught at 2am on some godforsaken cable channel. wiimusic presentation as bad as that microsoft movies one - shiggy what were you thinking!?!?

zappi, Tuesday, 15 July 2008 17:23 (seventeen years ago)

he was thinking the last time his folks needed to impress anybody at E3 was 2006

antexit, is that guy, like, faking it? he seems like a really good satire of what he's being... but if he is actually like that then wow.

Will M., Wednesday, 16 July 2008 21:05 (seventeen years ago)

like honestly. toasting with milk in a wine glass? there's no way this isn't made up!!!

Will M., Wednesday, 16 July 2008 21:05 (seventeen years ago)

That dude is a Goon from SA.

Allen, Wednesday, 16 July 2008 21:37 (seventeen years ago)

i want to kiss him

Will M., Wednesday, 16 July 2008 22:12 (seventeen years ago)

the more details abt animal crossing that emerge, the less exciting it sounds

it's basically the GCN version minus the nes games and with a tiny hub area

the multiplayer disconnection issue tht plagued the DS version is still in there: if one party disconnects, each other party has to reboot

czn, Thursday, 17 July 2008 12:30 (seventeen years ago)

Bioware's Dragon Age: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Q-jVM9fe8w

am not crazy about their engine but it will satisfy the rpg geek in me. (that being 99% of me). better come out on 360 though b/c my pc can barely handle tetris.

bnw, Thursday, 17 July 2008 16:16 (seventeen years ago)

Flower looks like it might be real awesome if the gameplay can match the visuals. A great stoner game.

polyphonic, Thursday, 17 July 2008 19:42 (seventeen years ago)

8 million Boba Fetts incoming

bnw, Thursday, 17 July 2008 20:45 (seventeen years ago)

more like 8 million twi'lek jedi strippers

Will M., Thursday, 17 July 2008 21:38 (seventeen years ago)

Now that I think about it, it has been a while since Bioware did one of their generic DnD-style fantasy games, though I'm much more glad to see other kinds.
