Are the New Super Mario Bros games the same for WiiU & 3DS? I haven't played either but just curious

Different, the WiiU one is called New Super Mario Bros U and is easily the more inspired of the two.

Part of me wants to know which games in my backlog people think I should rush to play before voting, but I guess that spoils the fun of the unveiling I suppose

The following is a game I am

a) not 100% confident "came out" in 2012 (although technically the iOS client came out in 2012)
b) am 100% confident will only receive a vote from me & possibly my IRL friend who occasionally looks on ILG

The game is Artemis Spaceship Bridge Simulator and it is one of my top gaming moments in 2012

Oh wow, didn't realise that had got an iOS release. How far can it be downscaled? Is there any point me picking it up to try a two player one-ipad-one-iphone game for instance?

3 players minimum, and I'm pretty sure you need to buy the full game to use the iOS client (I don't think iOS can host a server). I really think the only way to play it is 6 players, one desktop hooked up to a TV (main screen -- needs a bit of cpu muscle for the 3D stuff), and a combination of laptops and ipads (we did it w/ 4 netbook-caliber machines and an ipad with no issue). Playing it on the iPhone was... problematic. Some stations didn't seem to work properly. From what I understand the iPad was great though.

Even tho you can do 3 people (weapons, helm, captain or something?) I really think it benefits from having all 5 stations manned + a captain walking around giving orders :)

Jagged Alliance: This is already on my list somewhere, not sure yet. Depending on how many games I give points this may be included on my ballot.
Tribes Ascend: I didn't care for it but enough of my pals did that I imagine it might get some love?
Planetside 2: See Tribes but moreso

Nhex - I've only heard good stuff about Mark of the Ninja (though I've failed to pick it up yet myself - someday). Fez, FTL, Hotline Miami are all games worth trying (I need to get FTL still too) / all games I've seen mentioned in other top ten lists.
