my strategy for playing this game is as follows:
1) look at the clock2) consider how long the tasks I have coming up will take3) set all the characters to work for that block of time4) come back 4/6/8 hours later and collect $$$
― Darth Icky (DJP), Wednesday, 13 March 2013 22:17 (twelve years ago)
This game is so boring and yet because it only takes like 5 minutes a day I keep playing it.

I cannot lie, I still lol at Burns walking his dogs

― Mordy, Wednesday, 13 March 2013 22:47 (twelve years ago)
Me too.
Well, that was a good thread.
Seems to be hacked Android version out there at the moment. Anyone tried it?
Also sofatruck's town is a truly terrifying monument to grinding. He is my hero (and jjjj with all his shiny shiny one-offs).
― hyggeligt, Wednesday, 13 March 2013 23:32 (twelve years ago)
ha is sofatruck the one with like huge tracts of identical houses farming away cash. i am a fan of that one.
basically i am always working tiered time stuff w/whatever assigned task stuff is going on, plus hitting the scratch game as often as possible. wish i had learned early on how useful donuts would be later instead of burning through them because i was frustrated waiting for buildings. also thx to boredom i have planted the actual corn crop on cletus's farm, which takes 90 days. currently stockpiling money to build either the huge magnifying glass or the popsicle skyscraper
― O_o-O_O-o_O (jjjusten), Wednesday, 13 March 2013 23:46 (twelve years ago)

― popeyphonic (polyphonic), Thursday, 14 March 2013 06:20 (twelve years ago)
thanks guys... I stole my house farm strategy from some other 'friend'
also I used some built up donuts to speed along some building, and totally got ripped off. Donuts gone, and the building still took 20 hours.
― sofatruck, Thursday, 14 March 2013 14:11 (twelve years ago)
out of curiosity, how much money does your house farm pull in? I'm half tempted to start another game with that strategy just because it's so insane-looking
― Darth Icky (DJP), Thursday, 14 March 2013 14:13 (twelve years ago)
I think its something like 30,000 every 'harvest'... I usually collect twice a day.
― sofatruck, Thursday, 14 March 2013 14:26 (twelve years ago)
and then spend everything expanding the farm... i don't even know the point anymore.

― hyggeligt, Sunday, 24 March 2013 22:49 (twelve years ago)
One consequence of my giant blue house farm is I seem to be blazing through the levels. I'm on 25 now, but I think I am way behind on the quests... I think the last one I did was to build the racetrack.
Also I stupidly planted corn on Cletus's Farm. I'm guessing that might come back to haunt me when I need to complete a quest down the road.
― sofatruck, Monday, 25 March 2013 16:25 (twelve years ago)

― emil.y, Monday, 25 March 2013 16:59 (twelve years ago)

that bummed me out, I was hoping for a massive GAME OVER
― Darth Icky (DJP), Monday, 25 March 2013 17:55 (twelve years ago)
Or at the least a triffid walking around. Be interesting to know what happens after 90 days. Does the game automatically open App Store with uninstall highlighted i wonder.
Recently having discovered how to farm properly (work up from the bottom of the row to the top) means I plan to continue to emulate sofatruck's dystopic tribute to Peter Seeger's ticky-tacky houses...

― Jeff, Monday, 1 April 2013 04:25 (twelve years ago)
I was trying to play this whole brushing my teeth this morning. I feel like if I'm just playing it by itself, I am wasting life away.
― Jeff, Monday, 1 April 2013 13:20 (twelve years ago)
I hacked mine this week. I felt myself getting bored, so sniffed around and found an unlimited donuts/money hack. Renewed my interest for awhile, but it all but over now.
― sofatruck, Monday, 1 April 2013 13:36 (twelve years ago)

― the pheromones of hot clothing (DJP), Monday, 1 April 2013 14:45 (twelve years ago)

― hyggeligt, Monday, 1 April 2013 21:40 (twelve years ago)
I miss all the blue houses! Nice to see tower of toothpicks though.
― hyggeligt, Monday, 1 April 2013 22:45 (twelve years ago)
its iOS but needs to be jailbroken, there is one for Android also but I don't know the deets. Yeah the houses were awesome, but it was starting to feel like a job collecting from them.
― sofatruck, Monday, 1 April 2013 22:48 (twelve years ago)
Is there any reason not to always do the longest tasks?
― Jeff, Tuesday, 2 April 2013 12:28 (twelve years ago)
Only reason not to is sometimes you need characters available to do tasks in order to complete quests and unlock buildings, etc. Its a pain realizing you need Lisa to read a book for 45s, but she still has 23hrs of homework left to do.
― sofatruck, Tuesday, 2 April 2013 14:36 (twelve years ago)
Stupid Lisa.
― Jeff, Tuesday, 2 April 2013 14:42 (twelve years ago)
I think the sweet spot for reward vs time investment floats around the 4 and 8 hour tasks; I almost always kick those off in the morning then go about my day until I start getting alerts for them, at which point I kick off another round and move on
― the pheromones of hot clothing (DJP), Tuesday, 2 April 2013 14:49 (twelve years ago)
Yeah my strategy was to get money/xp from houses every 8 hrs, and keep characters free for quests.
― sofatruck, Tuesday, 2 April 2013 16:23 (twelve years ago)
If you do 24 one hour tasks, you get more money and xp than you would for one 24 hour task. The shorter the task, the better the value, generally speaking. Plus shorter tasks keep you freed up, as in the Lisa example.
I finally started employing the blue house farming system and it is working nicely.
― polyphonic, Tuesday, 2 April 2013 18:00 (twelve years ago)
Ah. Not an option for me. The Android one however... To be honest I get vicarious kicks via you and Jjjjjusten for fancy buildings. I quite enjoy the grinding element.

yeah idk what it is exactly but the new krustyland stuff has totally sucked the fun out of this
― R'LIAH (goole), Tuesday, 13 August 2013 00:13 (eleven years ago)
This latest level is buggy. I had gotten the SWAT truck and building the wax museum and was half way through the quests and then it suddenly went away. SWAT truck gone, museum gone, and my money. But the quests are still happening, but I couldn't continue. Then suddenly the SWAT truck is back as an option to buy, so I have to build up the cash again to continue the quests.
Why do I continue.
― Jeff, Tuesday, 20 August 2013 13:38 (eleven years ago)
this flea scratcher ride that i just built in krustyland is crap looking and has the decided whiff of lazy as balls design work. for 12000 tickets that fucker should look like a futureworld laser fortress or some shit.
― waterface down (jjjusten), Wednesday, 28 August 2013 22:21 (eleven years ago)
The level bug you describe hasn't hit me yet, though I'm having trouble keeping the characters free simultaneously to complete Krustyland and Springfield quests, and might not be there yet. Just got the Haunted Condo done. Looking forward to seeting up the Scratchy ride in front of the entrance like a god to worship.
And I'll own up to spending some cash at gamezino prior to their Monday closing, to get 4K donuts and the complete Halloween set. Kang was on my want list, and worth the extra $ just to have him racing around town. All previous "Why do WoW players spend real-world cash for items?" snark, drowned in hypocrisy.
Mmmmmm, tasty hypocrisy.

Feels great. I just kept asking myself why and was unable to answer. I though I would eventually reorg my Springfield, but it always seemed so laborious.
― Jeff, Thursday, 19 September 2013 15:28 (eleven years ago)
Once I complete the land grid, I'm going to keep a mega blue housfarm, but surround it with a moat, barbed wire fencing, caution sawhorses, and woods.
― the body of a spider... (scampering alpaca), Thursday, 19 September 2013 20:24 (eleven years ago)
5 days to build the tooth chipper go fuck yourself game. Esp since that is the endpoint for the krustyland quests iirc, after which you can exchange tickets for cash at a slightly reduced rate compared to just having peeps do stuff in Springfield.
― O_o-O_O-o_O (jjjusten), Monday, 30 September 2013 18:06 (eleven years ago)
Agreed, too much time on that one. Hoping there's some Krustyland content in tomorrow's Halloween update. Otherwise, will just save tix to buy all the Krustyland acreage. Maybe make a Champs-Elysees long road to the Hotel...
― the body of a spider... (scampering alpaca), Monday, 30 September 2013 19:03 (eleven years ago)
What's the deal with squishing gremlins? From what I understand it gives you 2 goo but stops the gremlin-placer from getting any more goo out of the gremlin. Is it bad form to squish, then? Or just an accepted part of play?
― emil.y, Friday, 4 October 2013 14:40 (eleven years ago)
My understanding is that upon squashing, you each get 2. If you don't catch him within 4 hours the other person gets all 4 points.
The Halloween animation is all pretty good. I'm particulary fond of haunted Moe's.
― Mike Dixn, Saturday, 5 October 2013 04:18 (eleven years ago)
lurker here, showing my face b/c i've regained interest in this game b/c:
I just got 10 000 donuts/tickets/moneys and about 100 squidport tiles through r3ddit, also most of the old premium items. The game's a lot more fun now with all the design options/buildings/chars.
If you're interested, it's super easy - go to (sic): r3ddit.com/freedonuts and there's a google docs thing you fill out that goes to "trusted givers", and within a couple days they load you up. There's also ppl you can ask in the GIVE posts.
I spend hours & hours designing the crap outta my springfield :/ it's so addicting - add me: aarrroon I wanna see some cool springfields! I'm quite proud of mine :P

Have you gone ahead with it? I'm debating, it seems reasonably legit. But I'm worried that it'll actually stop me from wanting to play - once I have everything then what's to work for, right?
― emil.y, Monday, 4 November 2013 14:23 (eleven years ago)
i had stopped playing it already so this just kinda rejuvenated my interest. it does work, however. and it has made the game fresh again.
― Mordy , Monday, 4 November 2013 14:36 (eleven years ago)
Yeah, I think I might hold off for the time being and store it in memory banks for when I get fully bored of the grind. And just hope it still works then.

Still in as well - cjohnhill. Will friend anyone who isn't already one.
Agreed on the beauty of the white/blue snowy landscape. Enjoying the playability tweaks of the character search and the left/right arrows while visiting other towns. Seems like the character clicking is quicker this time, vs. having to wait or click through the completed task money.
The only bummer is that my town's production of gift bags is miserly. Am generating ~60% bags to friend towns, so each visit to an active town is a single bag drop vs. leaving the 5 bag limit. Maybe that rate will increase as the Xmas update continues?
― the body of a spider... (scampering alpaca), Friday, 13 December 2013 15:31 (eleven years ago)
Character search is an excellent addition - with loads of characters I kept missing a few, especially the kids.
Pretty sure they've set the community rewards at a more difficult level this time, which is a shame but kind of inevitable. Not even a third of the way to the first one.
― emil.y, Friday, 13 December 2013 15:44 (eleven years ago)
Yeah, curious about the community awards. Particularly around the Xmas holidays with people away from their electronics, I'd be surprised if all five are reached by the 1/7 end. Maybe they'll extend the event, or just gift them?
― the body of a spider... (scampering alpaca), Friday, 13 December 2013 17:30 (eleven years ago)
That tote board thing seems to me like it must just be a timer, really, and everything will be released on a preset schedule.
My daughter has this kid's tablet that doesn't support Google play for some reason, and so I downloaded the game from some blog, and it turned out to be a hacked version. The millions of donuts thing is actually fun if you're into trying to design and lay out your land, and if you don't just binge on premiums and speeding through all the quests right off the bat, it's fun.
I'm sbsweaty429 on there.
