Mirrors Edge, maybe? Tho I only played that for like 5 minutes

The New Jack Mormons! (kingfish), Thursday, 14 March 2013 19:59 (twelve years ago)

Mirror Edge worked as a tech demo, I honestly can't imagine playing the entire game

Darth Icky (DJP), Thursday, 14 March 2013 20:00 (twelve years ago)

also I keep forgetting Jumping Flash existed because I never played it

Darth Icky (DJP), Thursday, 14 March 2013 20:01 (twelve years ago)

jumping flash was great. i never owned it but i played it at my friends' house a lot. def a game that i still think of fondly from time to time even though i haven't played it in like 15 years

1staethyr, Thursday, 14 March 2013 20:07 (twelve years ago)

heck of a deja vu. surely done this before?

These are my every day balloons (Ste), Thursday, 14 March 2013 20:13 (twelve years ago)

i didnt find anything via search, but tbh i thought i might have done this before some other time i wanted to murder a game designer for doing this to me

O_o-O_O-o_O (jjjusten), Thursday, 14 March 2013 20:18 (twelve years ago)

I might have read it on another forum

Half Life 2 I thought was done quite well.

Mirror's Edge is a wonderful game!

Des Fusils Pour Banter (ShariVari), Thursday, 14 March 2013 20:53 (twelve years ago)

HL2 doesn't have much platforming at all, it's a shooter

ciderpress, Thursday, 14 March 2013 20:56 (twelve years ago)

There are jumpy bits

The New Jack Mormons! (kingfish), Thursday, 14 March 2013 20:57 (twelve years ago)

metroid prime has way more platforming than HL2 and i still don't know if i'd consider it a platformer

ciderpress, Thursday, 14 March 2013 20:57 (twelve years ago)

might as well ask if anyone has ever got 1st person melee fighting right (yeah i went there)

goole, Thursday, 14 March 2013 20:59 (twelve years ago)

i might have to pick up mirror's edge used, the demo was pretty cool

goole, Thursday, 14 March 2013 21:00 (twelve years ago)

I guess Punch-Out! doesn't really count

Darth Icky (DJP), Thursday, 14 March 2013 21:02 (twelve years ago)

agree with u ciderpress - the platforming was well done in that, but it's hard to say that was the focus of the game shared with all the reticles

Nhex, Thursday, 14 March 2013 22:49 (twelve years ago)

i have a copy of mirrors edge that you can borrow for as long as needed fyi, although i imagine its going for about 75 cents by this point used

O_o-O_O-o_O (jjjusten), Thursday, 14 March 2013 23:31 (twelve years ago)

Local GameStop wanted $10 for Mirror's Edge last week. Spent $5 on Shaun White Snowboarding instead.

EZ Snappin, Friday, 15 March 2013 00:01 (twelve years ago)

1st person melee fighting right

Dishonored does this as well as I've ever experienced.

popeyphonic (polyphonic), Friday, 15 March 2013 00:53 (twelve years ago)

I remember liking the 1st person melee in the first Riddick game.

EZ Snappin, Friday, 15 March 2013 01:32 (twelve years ago)

I haven't played dishonored, but my instinctive answer wrt the first person melee is no. Skyrim basically became fun once I could start summoning shit to do that for me.

O_o-O_O-o_O (jjjusten), Friday, 15 March 2013 02:41 (twelve years ago)

jumping flash was my first thought on seeing thread title; i bet the impetus to start this thread was Quantum Conundrum

the craziest half-court shots and wildest WAGs (forksclovetofu), Friday, 15 March 2013 05:41 (twelve years ago)

Skyrim

The combat in Dishonored feels much more engaged.

popeyphonic (polyphonic), Friday, 15 March 2013 06:08 (twelve years ago)

skyrim has no real fighting mechanics though, you just whack stuff and it falls down. i'm fine with this but i always hated involved melee combat in games anyway.

ciderpress, Friday, 15 March 2013 15:30 (twelve years ago)

for first person fighting, bushido blade of course

the craziest half-court shots and wildest WAGs (forksclovetofu), Friday, 15 March 2013 15:50 (twelve years ago)

ooh I hated the 1st person view for Bushido Blade, ditto Virtua Fighter

Darth Icky (DJP), Friday, 15 March 2013 15:54 (twelve years ago)

really? that's the way i played

the craziest half-court shots and wildest WAGs (forksclovetofu), Friday, 15 March 2013 15:56 (twelve years ago)

i don't even remember a 1st person view being available for bushido blade.

shit tie (Jordan), Friday, 15 March 2013 15:58 (twelve years ago)

default was the 3rd-person view; you could change it but then basically you would instantly die because the stances would often disguise where the CPU attack was coming from and it was hard to block effectively

Darth Icky (DJP), Friday, 15 March 2013 15:59 (twelve years ago)

The melee in Chivalry is good. It takes forever to get the hang of it though.

o_o, Friday, 15 March 2013 16:02 (twelve years ago)

lol I am not familiar with that game so that sentence is cracking me up

"let me help you with your jacket *body blow* now let me get that door *uppercut*"

Darth Icky (DJP), Friday, 15 March 2013 16:04 (twelve years ago)

I made a Chivalry thread but no one posted. That game is delightfully brutal.

popeyphonic (polyphonic), Friday, 15 March 2013 16:21 (twelve years ago)

pc only innit?

goole, Friday, 15 March 2013 16:21 (twelve years ago)

Maybe. I am PC only

popeyphonic (polyphonic), Friday, 15 March 2013 16:22 (twelve years ago)

It is. xpost

skyrim has no real fighting mechanics though

Which is why I am differentiating the combat in Dishonored, which does have pretty decent fighting mechanics. (At least before you turn into a flying ninja death machine, and then it barely matters...)

popeyphonic (polyphonic), Friday, 15 March 2013 16:43 (twelve years ago)

There's a Source-engine fighter that has some weird tribal bird-people characters, but I forget the title. Zeno Clash, maybe?

The New Jack Mormons! (kingfish), Friday, 15 March 2013 17:52 (twelve years ago)

i was going to say 'zero crash'

that's meant to be The Game That Uniquely Got First Person Melee Right, isn't it?

attempt to look intentionally nerdy, awkward or (thomp), Friday, 15 March 2013 17:57 (twelve years ago)

yup, Zeno Clash. i should play that someday, it's in my steam library

Nhex, Friday, 15 March 2013 17:59 (twelve years ago)

ha, i basically never experienced these mechanics (just chokeholds, sleep darts, and skulking around iirc).
