what games have you been liking lately?
― Mordy, Saturday, 23 March 2013 21:50 (twelve years ago)
Get Super Mario Brothers 3
― polyphonic, Saturday, 23 March 2013 21:50 (twelve years ago)
i play on PS3. i generally only buy/play 2-3 games per year because i don't spend a ton of free time on gaming. so usually my strategy is to stick to the big/popular games that fall in my range of interest, but buying long enough after they come out so that they aren't $50.
i've spent a lot of time with skyrim and fallout 3 over the past couple of years, red dead redemption is one of my favorite games, so obviously i like open-world games (though i'm not super into grand theft auto). but i'm open to shooters as well as long as they aren't too hard and are fun. i don't really dedicate enough time to this to get good at a game with a steep learning curve.
i'll probably get around to fallout new vegas eventually but i might need a break from bethesda open world games for a while first. i know lots of people are into borderlands 2. new tomb raider is intriguing. what else should i be considering?

maybe dishonored?
― Mordy, Saturday, 23 March 2013 21:58 (twelve years ago)
Far Cry 3? The story's beneath contempt but if you can make your peace with the idea of poaching for fun then the hunting mechanic can be a good laugh. Going out hunting bears and tigers with C4 and grenades is kinda sweet, and it's not a million miles away from Red Dead Redemption as a gaming experience.

Just Cause 2 is still the best for joyful punking around

― My Chemical Romance did 9/11 (jjjusten), Saturday, 23 March 2013 22:37 (twelve years ago)
ni no kuni is way too twee/rpg for me. dishonored is a good idea, gonna look into ps+ and far cry also. i had the demo for just cause 2 and it seemed pretty fun but not fun enough to buy the full game.

Don't forget to grab that ratchet and clank game, it's badass
― My Chemical Romance did 9/11 (jjjusten), Friday, 29 March 2013 02:06 (twelve years ago)
also don't forget to turn off automatic subscription renewalAccount Management --> Transaction Management --> Services List --> PlayStation Plus
― ( X '____' )/ (zappi), Friday, 29 March 2013 02:09 (twelve years ago)
thanks dudes. only problem with this plan is how slow downloads are. started the ratchet & clank download this morning, came back 45 minutes later and it was at 2%. guess i'll be doing a lot of overnight downloading.

Got LA Noire and Fallout New Vegas for $10 today.
― Immediate Follower (NA), Saturday, 12 October 2013 19:17 (eleven years ago)
Not the expanded/DLC/game of the year versions but whatever.
― Immediate Follower (NA), Saturday, 12 October 2013 19:23 (eleven years ago)
One of those games is awesome and the other one is LA Noire
― ACA: not bad, needs more death panels (jjjusten), Saturday, 12 October 2013 22:46 (eleven years ago)
la noire is one of those games i was excited about for like a year and a half but by the time it came out i never even thought about buying it. i'm gonna pick it up cheaps. thx for the idea.
― Roberto Spiralli, Saturday, 12 October 2013 22:48 (eleven years ago)
Has there even been a big game that everyone was excited about since like ... GTAV?
― Immediate Follower (NA), Wednesday, 10 September 2014 19:29 (ten years ago)
we're still in the lame duck period for the last generation. seems like half the new ps4/xb1 releases this year are just ports
― Nhex, Wednesday, 10 September 2014 19:32 (ten years ago)
I need to play Assassin's Creed 4 more but I have trouble getting excited about it even though it's pretty good. And I was playing The Last of Us but then it stopped working and I think I'm going to have to start over from the beginning again.
― Immediate Follower (NA), Wednesday, 10 September 2014 19:33 (ten years ago)
Shooter bros seem excited by Destiny.
― alanbatman (abanana), Wednesday, 10 September 2014 19:43 (ten years ago)
shooter bros were also excited about Titanfall
― ( X '____' )/ (zappi), Wednesday, 10 September 2014 19:45 (ten years ago)
destiny looks great tbh. i'd love to try it.
― Mordy, Wednesday, 10 September 2014 19:51 (ten years ago)
shooter bros should just shoot each other irl
― am0n, Wednesday, 10 September 2014 20:17 (ten years ago)
Want to trade in some stuff and get a new used game but I can't find anything that looks fun/interesting. Was thinking of Elder Scrolls: Oblivion but I already did Skyrim and do I want to do that whole thing again? Saints Row IV looks fun but is it any good?
― Immediate Follower (NA), Wednesday, 1 October 2014 19:57 (ten years ago)
saints row IV is a blast. i liked it so much i almost 100%'d it
― Mordy, Wednesday, 1 October 2014 19:59 (ten years ago)
Cool. I have like 0 interest in dark bloody games right now, just want something fun and different and light.
― Immediate Follower (NA), Wednesday, 1 October 2014 20:00 (ten years ago)
it's very funny, very light. the dubstep gun is amazing.
― Mordy, Wednesday, 1 October 2014 20:01 (ten years ago)
I just started Saints Row 2 recently, which is fun but basically seems like it's just a more peurile (if such a thing is possible) gloss on the GTA model. Does the series change much over the subsequent two games?
― Portly Backgammon (Old Lunch), Wednesday, 1 October 2014 20:04 (ten years ago)
yes, number 3 and number 4 are far superior. number 4 is basically reskinning number 3 (it started as an expansion but became it's own full length). they're just insane + hilarious + the mechanics are really enjoyable + light.
― Mordy, Wednesday, 1 October 2014 20:04 (ten years ago)
i think around 3 they became a full blown satire of GTA type games and not just a jejune knock-off
― Mordy, Wednesday, 1 October 2014 20:05 (ten years ago)
Yeah, by SR3 they pretty much stopped caring about gravitas or plot - SR2 still had some of that. (But yes, way more puerile than GTA even)SR4 just came out with an "ultimate" edition with all the DLC (like SR3 has too) so if you grab one of these, make sure you get the GOTY version
― Nhex, Wednesday, 1 October 2014 20:14 (ten years ago)
I got the GOTY version. The Gamestop dude had a pretty cool RIP IT UP AND START AGAIN tattoo and I namechecked Orange Juice while complimenting it and he said I was just the second person to recognize the source. Indie cred at the chain video game store.

Would I like the Far Cry games? Which one should I start with?
― Immediate Follower (NA), Friday, 10 July 2015 19:24 (nine years ago)
Far cry 2 is fab
― Mordy, Friday, 10 July 2015 19:26 (nine years ago)
i want a new game for ps4. hitman is the game i'm most intrigued by but i don't know if i can deal with a game primarily about murdering people right now. so recommend me a game that isn't mostly about killing. tomb raider?
― na (NA), Saturday, 28 October 2017 16:33 (seven years ago)
i'd say tomb raider is also primarily about murdering people.
dishonored 2 you can play thru the entire game and not kill anyone. also deus ex.
witcher 3 and horizon zero dawn are primarily about murdering, respectively, slavic monsters and giant robot animals
― Mordy, Saturday, 28 October 2017 16:39 (seven years ago)
Nier:automata is a game primarily about murdering machines
― chihuahuau, Saturday, 28 October 2017 16:46 (seven years ago)
I love witcher 3 but got burned out while playing the extra content. I have dishonored 2 but haven't gotten hooked on it. I should probably go back to it. A lot of the fun of those games for me is avoiding fighting but it feels like the game keeps pushing me into fights.
― na (NA), Saturday, 28 October 2017 16:57 (seven years ago)
Really not killing anything? The Witness. Killing zombies and hellcreatures? Doom. Killing spaceships ok? Elite Dangerous
