Sam & Max games are always fun.

I dug Puzzle Agent for sure,

Cogs and English Country Tune, Blocks That Matter are good brain teaser/puzzlers

I loved Shank, but I'm dumb for those kind of beat 'em ups and hand-drawn animation

The "eh, not bad" category: AVSEQ, Trine (it's pretty though)

Wouldn't bother with Crayon Physics Deluxe, Gish or Shadowgrounds

I own everything in this list too but haven't played the rest, lol

I've been trudging through Sam & Max season 1 for half a year now. VERY early work from Telltale, don't feel bad about skipping it; their later games are so much better.

xxp Pretty sure it doesn't. Can't remember which season I have but I don't think it's the first one, and it's nicely self-contained. A couple of in-jokes thrown in at worst.

I've been intrigued by Dear Esther but not actually played it, so can't say if it's worth it, but it definitely got good reviews. http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2012-02-14-dear-esther-review

i liked

Little Inferno -- very short too
MacGuffin's Curse -- although it's buggy
Puzzle Agent 1 + 2

didn't care for

Gish
Darwinia
Trine 1

a lot of these are in my unplayed pile too.

Thomas Was Alone is far more charming than it has any right to be
Proteus is short
Little Inferno is neat and has an actual story
Dear Esther is pretty short, too.
