Harvest Moon: The Lost Valley, 3DS, 2014
might not seem like it, but this is one of the most unexpected announcements this year.some background: Marvelous develop the games and release them as Bokujo Monogatari, or "Farm Story" in JapanNatsume have always localized & published the games in the West and release them under the name "Harvest Moon"last year Marvelous bought the US company XSEED who are localizing the latest "Farm Story" game, but Natsume own the rights to the "Harvest Moon" name so the game is being released as "Story Of Seasons"Natsume were cut out of the deal, so now seem to be developing a Harvest Moon game of their own. and both are scheduled for later this year. Confusing!!

― Nhex, Thursday, 5 June 2014 15:29 (ten years ago) link
yeh the porting of the first 3 Phoenix Wright games is very confusing, something like GBA -> DS -> iOS -> 3DS with interfaces & sprites being revamped at each step
Natsume's other 2 E3 announcements areA-Train: City Simulator, 3DS - long running train-sim series Alphadia Genesis, Wii U - port of an Android JRPG? yikes

I got to attend E3 in 2010-2011 or so.. I got free batteries which was pretty much the highlight.. oh and I got to play arkham asylum for a bit which was cool.
but all the top secret reveal shit are games you have to wait in super long lines for. the games on the floor are basically things that have been previewed to death already or lower tier than AAA stuff..
it was also the same week the nba finals were in los angeles. a parking spot cost $100 in the lot I was leaving around lunch time.

Sony conference
Destiny -- zzzzz
The Order -- i have no faith in the devs since they've said so many idiotic things lately. lengthy cutscene including aiming segments as a type of QTE.
Entwined -- gameplay looks like Tempest. vita game? no, all platforms.
Infamous: First Light: Blood Dragon: Neon
LBP3 -- character abilities. still boring.
― mohawk ororoducer (abanana), Tuesday, 10 June 2014 01:29 (ten years ago) link
Bloodborne -- the Demon's Souls spiritual sequel. no gameplay.
Far Cry 4 -- looks great but who knows. some bits don't look like real gameplay.
Dead Island 2 -- impressive cg trailer for a game no one should care about
Battlefield: whatever -- don't care
Magicka 2 -- funny trailer. don't care.

various pixely indie gamesMyst/Witness-ish game called the Talos Principle that I will likely buy
Let It Die -- Suda51 PS4 exclusive. Dark and violent and probably not for me.
Abzu -- from the Journey guys. ambient exploring game.
No Man's Sky -- SF universe exploration game. procedurally generated. :( i am still interested.
VR gear -- will be playable at e3. requires ps4 camera, but no release info.
social media bullshit"on playstation, free-to-play means free to play" *certain features available for a fee
PSNow -- PS4 beta opens in USA end of july. games can be played on sony TVs without a console -- that sounds like a great idea, a reason to buy a sony tv. also on PS3.
PSTV -- $99, PSNow capable.
MKX gameplay footage -- looks nothing like the CG trailer. interactables. no OTGs shown.

random observations: cg trailers at Xbox conference, (some) gameplay ones at the Sony one. press triangle to get something out of your shirt pocket what? how does suda51 still have a career, his games sell like shit. got a good lol at the vita TV announcement removing vita from the name and being "here's a thing that you can extend your PS4 with! and stream hundreds of PS3 games with! ... oh and it plays select vita games". I don't understand this game. I get that there's some dynamic quality that makes it exciting-- there isn't much exciting about it otherwise. Looks like a Star Trek movie's b-plot. Are those dinosaurs "procedurally generated"? Based on what variables? I understand there's some kind of MMO quality, but how can there be a procedurally-generated world that multiple players, all with their own CPUs generating their own playfields, are occupying at once? Wouldn't they all be on different worlds?

Exploration and resource gathering are the ways, really the only ways, in which the game is similar to Minecraft. The planets you land on aren’t cube-shaped and it’s unlikely you’ll build a house on them. They are the equivalent of Minecraft’s network of underground caves: exciting to find, unique to you, and full of materials which give them significance and value despite not being handcrafted.Any planet you discover on your journey is marked on your galactic map, along with its name, its atmosphere and what resources you found there. If you choose to, you can then share that information with every other player, uploading it so that it’s shared across everyone’s galactic map. You’ll get credit for discovering it. You’ll also, if the materials there are valuable, attract players to come visit. No Man’s Sky isn’t a multiplayer game, in as much as you’ll never see another player. But the galaxy is the same between everyone and actions of “significance” will be shared. If you kill a single bird, that won’t be shared. If you make an entire species of bird extinct, then those creatures will blink out of existence for everyone. That means you might want to keep quiet about a planet of valuable resources, so others don’t come and deplete it. I also instantly start thinking of ways to be devious. Can I upload false information to the galactic map? Can I lure people to a system full of pirates and then, when their ships crash and burn, steal materials from their ghostly hulls?

i think i'm just way more into procedurally generated content than most folks, when minecraft first came out i spent a bunch of time just generating maps and wandering around looking at the neat stuff it came up with rather than building things. this game appears to be that but isolated and blown up to a grander scale
― ciderpress, Thursday, 12 June 2014 17:21 (ten years ago) link
