Harvest Moon: The Lost Valley, 3DS, 2014

might not seem like it, but this is one of the most unexpected announcements this year.
some background: Marvelous develop the games and release them as Bokujo Monogatari, or "Farm Story" in Japan
Natsume have always localized & published the games in the West and release them under the name "Harvest Moon"
last year Marvelous bought the US company XSEED who are localizing the latest "Farm Story" game, but Natsume own the rights to the "Harvest Moon" name so the game is being released as "Story Of Seasons"
Natsume were cut out of the deal, so now seem to be developing a Harvest Moon game of their own.
and both are scheduled for later this year. Confusing!!

yeh the porting of the first 3 Phoenix Wright games is very confusing, something like GBA -> DS -> iOS -> 3DS with interfaces & sprites being revamped at each step

it was also the same week the nba finals were in los angeles. a parking spot cost $100 in the lot I was leaving around lunch time.

more games being announced, Itagaki's Devils Third still exists is now a WiiU exclusive(?), Mario Party 10zzz, Fantasy Life on 3DS for US. and the 3DS game that they are holding a 90 minute roundtable about is still unannounced.

I gamed primarily on the pc before switching to consoles almost exclusively during the 360 era.. Im pretty much this close to being back to full time pc gaming again because these new console offerings are such shit

I don't understand this game. I get that there's some dynamic quality that makes it exciting-- there isn't much exciting about it otherwise. Looks like a Star Trek movie's b-plot. Are those dinosaurs "procedurally generated"? Based on what variables? I understand there's some kind of MMO quality, but how can there be a procedurally-generated world that multiple players, all with their own CPUs generating their own playfields, are occupying at once? Wouldn't they all be on different worlds?

Beats me, but you can explore a dinosaur planet and five seconds later you're in a huge space battle, so I'm in.

Exploration and resource gathering are the ways, really the only ways, in which the game is similar to Minecraft. The planets you land on aren’t cube-shaped and it’s unlikely you’ll build a house on them. They are the equivalent of Minecraft’s network of underground caves: exciting to find, unique to you, and full of materials which give them significance and value despite not being handcrafted.

Any planet you discover on your journey is marked on your galactic map, along with its name, its atmosphere and what resources you found there. If you choose to, you can then share that information with every other player, uploading it so that it’s shared across everyone’s galactic map.

You’ll get credit for discovering it. You’ll also, if the materials there are valuable, attract players to come visit. No Man’s Sky isn’t a multiplayer game, in as much as you’ll never see another player. But the galaxy is the same between everyone and actions of “significance” will be shared. If you kill a single bird, that won’t be shared. If you make an entire species of bird extinct, then those creatures will blink out of existence for everyone.

That means you might want to keep quiet about a planet of valuable resources, so others don’t come and deplete it. I also instantly start thinking of ways to be devious. Can I upload false information to the galactic map? Can I lure people to a system full of pirates and then, when their ships crash and burn, steal materials from their ghostly hulls?

PS TV is a Vita without the screen and controls. It has the same remote play abilities as a Vita. Also just like a Vita, it will support PSNow which is planned to have PS4 games.

That video makes it seem like No Man's Sky is Wing Commander + hiking sim.

i think i'm just way more into procedurally generated content than most folks, when minecraft first came out i spent a bunch of time just generating maps and wandering around looking at the neat stuff it came up with rather than building things. this game appears to be that but isolated and blown up to a grander scale

basically i value exploration and immersion in games more than actual fleshed-out gameplay or a sense of progression so these sorts of sandbox sim games are ideal to me
