playing basketball

old guy at my court is 6'7" and played in college. annoying cause somehow I'm always the 2nd tallest guy and have to guard him or some other oaf.
the other day my local player-coach shot an airball and tried to play it off as a pass to me, "you gotta be ready for that". everyone started laughing, so then he played off that playing-off as a joke.

it's pretty cool though, I've worked up a network of 10 or so dudes to text for a game and amongst them and random drop by guys there's only been one dick. ratio was like 10x higher when I played in Chicago area. ~chillvibes~ man.

Hahaha playing at new place in Bronx, did a little 2-on-2 yesterday's, totally got matched up with Player Coach. Kinda loved it but I was abusing this dude inside and wanted Player Coach to take some shots just because idk it's just mellow basketball and wasn't trying to make anyone look bad. PC kept yelling at me to go inside and take him and getting irritated when I would take the pass and then pass it back out.

What was funny is that he was also The Dad and had his kid there with him. He jumped in and just wanted to play one game; but, after we won the first one, he yelled to his kid to hang tight, daddy was gonna play one more game. And then another one after that.

Think he might've had some history w/ one of the other dudes and just wanted to twist the baller-knife a little bit.

it took me a good 20 minutes to get the shammgod down, it goes against every natural instinct

its v unnatural, I've only tried it a few times but never in a game situation. Doesn't seem like something I would use. I use the white chocolate around the back to myself all the time tho.

2 things that suck about pickup ball
1) total lack of charging. certain guys seem to not even have a concept of it, and will relentlessly ram into you every possession.
2) 1s and 2s as default scoring mode rather than 2s and 3s. And the math geniuses I generally play with don't get how "1s and 2s" mode gives more weight to behind-the-arc shots.

in my pickup world people generally dont play with twos

^ every once in a while when someone stands in one spot for like 3 seconds and gets pummeled and subsequently hurt he MIGHT get the call.

ones and twos is great for when there are lots of people waiting to get on the court, keeps things moving. But yeah it really adds a ton of weight to outside shooting

charge is ok to call if it's super obvious but the offense should get the ball back

if you push someone over w yr off arm or like barrel into someone then try to call the foul on them

i like to call three seconds and then yell 'respect the call' over and over until everyone quits

really i feel like backcourt is always called, or sometimes three quarters court, a regional pick up conventions map would be interesting

ha I've played in a handful of states from Colorado westward and never ever played where that was called.

its also kind of looked down upon to call traveling unless its like super obvious.

i've never seen backcourt or three seconds or palming/carrying called, altho some fuckers do nothing but carry

could probably count charges on one hand. and one (1) time i played against a pickup zone defense lol

hah man i have a group of friends I run with and we have one squad if we are all playing together we can do zone cos we all get it. But all it takes is one knucklehead and it all comes crashing down.

ha i have def seen the zone attempted many times but it only ever lasts from one play cause you cant really just do that shit on the fly
