playing basketball

^ every once in a while when someone stands in one spot for like 3 seconds and gets pummeled and subsequently hurt he MIGHT get the call.

ones and twos is great for when there are lots of people waiting to get on the court, keeps things moving. But yeah it really adds a ton of weight to outside shooting

charge is ok to call if it's super obvious but the offense should get the ball back

if you push someone over w yr off arm or like barrel into someone then try to call the foul on them

i like to call three seconds and then yell 'respect the call' over and over until everyone quits

lol 3 seconds and back court are two things that are not allowed to be called in open gym

yeah there is no backcourt

really i feel like backcourt is always called, or sometimes three quarters court, a regional pick up conventions map would be interesting

ha I've played in a handful of states from Colorado westward and never ever played where that was called.

its also kind of looked down upon to call traveling unless its like super obvious.

i've never seen backcourt or three seconds or palming/carrying called, altho some fuckers do nothing but carry

could probably count charges on one hand. and one (1) time i played against a pickup zone defense lol

hah man i have a group of friends I run with and we have one squad if we are all playing together we can do zone cos we all get it. But all it takes is one knucklehead and it all comes crashing down.

Yeah I don't mind hustle, I'm probably just jealous of the constant energy.

those guys usually jump out of their skin if given any sort of fake

I keep getting matched up against this 6'6" athletic and skilled guy (I'm 6'1"...and at least 10 yrs older than this guy). Half of me likes the challenge, half of me wants to be able to take a normal shot every now and then, maybe get a few rebounds, would be nice.

hah one of my besties in high school didnt really understand how to play basketball but was super athletic and strong and had so much engery, my friends all understood what his deal was and could play with him but when wed get pick up games people were just aghast at his behavior lol

man, I already miss my brief, weird, obessive pick-up basketball run -- I had shittons of free time to work on my game and workout, so I went from being pretty much zero to being passable in a short time. Got in the best shape of my life too. I feel like some of the stuff I learned left me, like I can't remember how to make my body do some of the moves and cuts I could do when I was in better shape, but it'd probably come back if I worked on it again I guess.

haha, yeah you just have to adjust as you get older. learn new skills and rely on "bball IQ" and what not. Really on the fundamentals more. I love playing against high school hot shots cos you can school them a million different ways and use minimal energy doing it. There's a reason a prime age is like 26-29 cos even tho they may be faster and more spry/energetic at a younger age they generally just don't have the experience.

Yeah I don't recommend it on a reg basis but you know if you're shooting around on one side and a group of punks need another to make 10 then hell, I'll put in work.
