75 is old wow, played with plenty of 50 year olds over the years but never 70s.

he's 6'4" with a wide frame, just sets mean picks and hits the flatfoot short shots. plays in tournaments where often there's no other teams in his age group so he has to play vs the "young" guys ie dudes in their 60s. one of his tourney teammates is an ex globetrotter.
last week this 23 yr old stud dominated (6'3", great shooter, crafty finisher, good handles, excellent vision). I wanted to switch onto him but kinda felt like it'd be a dick move to basically tell my teammate he can't guard him, step aside. He still will hit 3's in my eye but I don't let him waltz into the paint like my teammate was allowing him to. Will have to just check him from the getgo so the awkward "step aside" moment doesn't happen.

Maybe he was too proud to ask for a switch but would've welcomed your suggestion as a way to save face!

ha I've been on the other end of that before when having to guard bigger/taller guys. "yes please, you try dealing with this beast". lack of 3 second rule really puts you at their mercy sometimes.

So last night I made sure to check the young stud mentioned above...and 1st play he blows by me for a layup haha. But think he only got 1 other layup that wasn't after someone else switching onto him and my team won 3 out of 4 games so hooray. We get to play indoors once or twice a week because this guy's wife is the school principal, but she resigned effective next school year so don't know if we can keep hooping there :(((

I played 3 on 3 today w/ my brothers, my brother in law, and my nephew, it was dope, so so so much fun. I hadn't played in years so I am super sore right now but overall I was very satisfied with how I played. my jumpshot could've been way better but I was a monster on defense imho

fwiw it def missed some courts but pretty amazing work overall, also great to see how many courts have high quality backboards/rims/nets now after years of dealing with the evil handmade parks departments set ups

― usic ally (k3vin k.), Wednesday, 22 July 2015 17:41 (nine years ago) link
lagoon if you do "show all" it ranks them in order of overall score. then if you click on the name of the court it will tell you what the rank is. seth low park in bensonhurst is #32
ah thx, they shdve listed the rank in the table, what am i supposed to do count over here what the heck

a vast majority of pickup hoops games are scored using 1s and 2s.
whaaaat not where im from bro
― lag∞n, Thursday, 3 September 2015 15:47 (nine years ago) link
I often think about how pickup 1s/2s scoring overweights the three, but how that may be counterbalanced by the fact that you don't see a lot of true knockdown 3 shooters in pickup games.

too many ppl shooting 25-footers as it is, no need to encourage them
― mookieproof, Thursday, 3 September 2015 16:22 (nine years ago) link
yeah man we stopped with the ones and twos a couple years back totally changed the game. little weird getting used to keeping score tho
― Spottie, Thursday, 3 September 2015 16:59 (nine years ago) link
if the choices are 1s/2s or all 1s, always choose 1s and 2s. game gets too physical otherwise

btw this is how pickup is supposed to be played imo
- 1s and 2s to 15, win by 2, unless a lot of people are waiting in which case all 1s to 11, straight up- winners outs in half court- line up at the foul line to pick teams, alternate- do or die shot from 3 for ball. if full court, the team who doesn't get ball first gets to choose which way they want to go- shoot a 3 to resolve disputes- call your own fouls. if it goes in anyway, it counts. "and-1" means nothing, it's just a way to taunt- no fucking zone
― usic ally (k3vin k.), Thursday, 3 September 2015 17:38 (nine years ago) link
everything is right but we play 2s and 3s to 21 now. Its great.
― Spottie, Thursday, 3 September 2015 18:03 (nine years ago) link
zone d sounds kinda lame for a pickup game, but why outlaw it?
