yeah! the courts and hoops themselves are pretty shitty but it's always packed, which can be a good or bad thing

lagoon if you do "show all" it ranks them in order of overall score. then if you click on the name of the court it will tell you what the rank is. seth low park in bensonhurst is #32

I often think about how pickup 1s/2s scoring overweights the three, but how that may be counterbalanced by the fact that you don't see a lot of true knockdown 3 shooters in pickup games.

too many ppl shooting 25-footers as it is, no need to encourage them

yeah man we stopped with the ones and twos a couple years back totally changed the game. little weird getting used to keeping score tho

if the choices are 1s/2s or all 1s, always choose 1s and 2s. game gets too physical otherwise

btw this is how pickup is supposed to be played imo

- 1s and 2s to 15, win by 2, unless a lot of people are waiting in which case all 1s to 11, straight up
- winners outs in half court
- line up at the foul line to pick teams, alternate
- do or die shot from 3 for ball. if full court, the team who doesn't get ball first gets to choose which way they want to go
- shoot a 3 to resolve disputes
- call your own fouls. if it goes in anyway, it counts. "and-1" means nothing, it's just a way to taunt
- no fucking zone

everything is right but we play 2s and 3s to 21 now. Its great.

Don't find this to be true. Most guys I play with, 3's is their main bball skill and they are lethal from there. I'm always trying to score games 2/3's instead of 1/2s (even moreso before I improved my 3 pt shooting). I do not understand where the 1/2s thing came from and why it overtook 2/3s as the standard.

was trying to explain to one guy how 1/2s overweights the long distance shot, but he couldn't grasp it. "but 2 is one more than 1, just like 3 is one more than 2...". i'm sure there's a lot of other guys out there who don't get it, either.

so much frustration from working hard to get 6 high percentage buckets...and then the 5 ft 2 sharpshooter drains 3 in a row from behind the arc in like 30 seconds and it's a tie game.

the other day I'm guarding him, he dances around with the ball behind the arc, creates just enough space, hoists one up, nothing but net as usual: "fuck you, Sergio". I'm on offense, take him to the post, get an easy bucket. "fuck you, Granny". #microcosm

i was just thinking about this thread--used to sometimes go to a gym that had very regular very competitive games that i would have been way too intimidated to play in. just moved out to the burbs and new gym has a court that no one uses. i need to get a ball so i can start shooting around.

Really feel like my skills are diminishing :/ turned 34 so I'm way passed my prime and all the injuries I think have caught up with me. Idk I guess I'm like Paul pierce where I have like one good game every three or so now.

That sucks :( But try not to get into that "I'm old now" mentality. I'm 37 and am better now than I ever was. Can't finish over/around people like I used to but you find other ways...

yeah i already had old man game, now I've got to keep developing it.

been shooting at this gym for the past few weeks. can't tell if games ever break out but i have a lot of work to do remembering ballhandling and getting a shooting stroke back anyway

me and 2 guys in their 50s just beat 2 19 yr olds and a 22 yr old 2 games out of 3. all of the young guys played on their HS teams. after winning the last game, one of my teammates goes "do you have any idea how satisfying that was for me??".
