chrons is not awesome tho.
granny how tall are you?
i used to be able to "dunk" a tennis ball on my best day about 5 years ago, but my hops aren't what they used to be
― k3vin k., Friday, 20 November 2015 23:39 (eight years ago) link
congrats, meeting the rim is a life goal. i can make it about halfway up the net. must continue grinding...
― INTOXICATING LIQUORS (art), Saturday, 21 November 2015 00:07 (eight years ago) link
there was a period of about three months long ago when i could kinda consistently dunk
still have dreams about it tbh
― mookieproof, Saturday, 21 November 2015 00:26 (eight years ago) link
never even been a thought for me. I'm 5 9.5 and have never had any jumping ability.

i played the other day and felt like i died, im in p good shape/exercise a lot but theres really nothing that gets u in basketball shape other than basketball, wldve loved to just play a lil 3on3 tbh
― lag∞n, Saturday, 21 November 2015 01:39 (eight years ago) link
actually generally prefer 3s to a full game more shots more space less running
― lag∞n, Saturday, 21 November 2015 01:42 (eight years ago) link
fewer ppl not running back on D
amazing exercise tho for sure
yeah there are few things more frustrating than a half-assed 5-on-5 game but i much prefer a good 5 on 5 to 3 on 3
― k3vin k., Saturday, 21 November 2015 01:45 (eight years ago) link
same thing happens when people wanna go 4-on-4 full-court, too many fast breaks. i've been instituting a simple but effective new rule whenever i play and this comes up though: the ball has to be dribbled over half court. cut down on fast breaks a lot
― k3vin k., Saturday, 21 November 2015 01:47 (eight years ago) link
yeah 4s full or half r both kinda bad
― lag∞n, Saturday, 21 November 2015 01:48 (eight years ago) link
u know whats p cool is a very short full court
― lag∞n, Saturday, 21 November 2015 01:52 (eight years ago) link
I'm 6 foot, Kev

lag, you haven't played in a while and dove right into full court? respect.
― A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Saturday, 21 November 2015 01:58 (eight years ago) link
I rarely get to run full but love it, it's like a different game. slowly starting to regain the skills specific to it.
― A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Saturday, 21 November 2015 01:59 (eight years ago) link
thank u it just sort of happened i was shooting around at the gym and a game formed, it was fun tho my offense was beyond rusty but i cld still D it up which after the first game was all i had energy for anyway
― lag∞n, Saturday, 21 November 2015 02:01 (eight years ago) link
ha. D can be v fun on its own. you're around my age, no?
― A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Saturday, 21 November 2015 02:03 (eight years ago) link

― A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Saturday, 21 November 2015 02:18 (eight years ago) link
truth bomb
― mookieproof, Saturday, 21 November 2015 02:37 (eight years ago) link
i am not a very good shooter (i don't practice or play enough) but D can definitely be very fun on its own, last time i played i was pretty mean on D and that's about all i was able to contribute, maybe made a shot or two
― marcos, Saturday, 21 November 2015 02:56 (eight years ago) link
has anyone else encountered these guys who are ridic adept at poking the ball from you from behind as you go around them? so annoying! think I'm finally avoiding getting victimized (being cognizant of who does it + keeping dribble low and more out in front than on the side of my body)
― A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Saturday, 21 November 2015 03:08 (eight years ago) link
i don't have much of a handle so anybody is p much these guys for me
― INTOXICATING LIQUORS (art), Saturday, 21 November 2015 03:59 (eight years ago) link
Yah pokers suck it's lazy but the best handlers turn the corner and push the ball out in front and catch up to it rather than dribble where it ends up closer to the hip for the poke. Easy to practice by yourself

trying to imagine leo's team doing a weave warming up for a pickup game
― mookieproof, Saturday, 13 February 2016 02:26 (eight years ago) link
ha my friends and i did imitations of him for years intently deciding where to pass while his crew yelled LEO LEO
― lag∞n, Saturday, 13 February 2016 02:32 (eight years ago) link
been playing occasionally at the gym my strategy is to lurk on situations that might result in halfcourt, played 3s last night p fun had a series of embarrassing layup misses before hitting three straight Js to win the game, the only thing is i always play after ive worked out so im totally beat, either that or im just not in basketball shape since i dont play basketball that much, prob some combination of the two, its great from an exercise perspective to have to have a game to motivate you to keep going if youre already tired tho
― lag∞n, Thursday, 25 February 2016 19:21 (eight years ago) link
its so hard tp play after lifting
― Spottie, Thursday, 25 February 2016 19:57 (eight years ago) link
yeah i play first as a warmup usually. have not felt like playing with other ppl yet--my shot is decent but my handle is just a disaster.
― call all destroyer, Thursday, 25 February 2016 19:58 (eight years ago) link
man it's been like 10 years but i kinda want to do this again, def not in shape for it atm though. maybe by the summer~~?
― ciderpress, Thursday, 25 February 2016 20:15 (eight years ago) link
it is one of the best things to do and it is a crazy workout
― marcos, Thursday, 25 February 2016 20:22 (eight years ago) link
my shot is terrible though
― marcos, Thursday, 25 February 2016 20:23 (eight years ago) link
i've been killing it recently with my dirk fade away. sucks though bc we play at a middle school gym and they started doubling down on me from the perimeter. there's no way to really make them pay since the court is so much smaller.

― k3vin k., Friday, 25 March 2016 15:52 (eight years ago) link

there were a bunch of adults laughing whooping and having a grand time playing knockout at the gym the other day it was weird
― lag∞n, Friday, 25 March 2016 15:55 (eight years ago) link

http://www.sbnation.com/2014/3/24/5544082/courtesy-respect-change-basketball-etiquette-by-many-names
'make it-take it' is when you are playing half-court three-on-three or something; team that scores gets the ball back
if ppl are just shooting around, getting the ball back is 'change'. only made jumpers tho; no change for layups
ur thoughts?
― mookieproof, Friday, 25 March 2016 16:07 (eight years ago) link
always said change
― Spottie, Friday, 25 March 2016 16:11 (eight years ago) link
lol i read that article too but didn't post it because "change" being the most common made me so angry!! how does that even make sense, the person shooting isn't changing! you pass it back to the same person! it's courtesy btw -- northeast names for things are always better obv
in terms of the etiquette of how it actually works, mookie otm. if you make a jumper you get it back (courtesy). if you miss a jumper, whoever gets the rebound passes you the ball for a layup, and that guy then gets to shoot jumpers
― k3vin k., Friday, 25 March 2016 16:12 (eight years ago) link
so let's say we were shooting around and some dummy grabs my made shot and starts dribbling it himself or whatever. what do you say? "oh it's...change....so kevin gets the ball back" ????? no, everyone looks at him, points to me, and says "courtesy"
