smfh what self-respecting person calls knockout "bumpout" or "lightning"
― k3vin k., Friday, 25 March 2016 15:51 (eight years ago) link
"gotcha" whaaaaat
― k3vin k., Friday, 25 March 2016 15:52 (eight years ago) link
"crash" is a pretty cool name though
― k3vin k., Friday, 25 March 2016 15:54 (eight years ago) link
there were a bunch of adults laughing whooping and having a grand time playing knockout at the gym the other day it was weird
― lag∞n, Friday, 25 March 2016 15:55 (eight years ago) link
yeah it's m/l a game for 12 year olds
― k3vin k., Friday, 25 March 2016 15:56 (eight years ago) link

http://www.sbnation.com/2014/3/24/5544082/courtesy-respect-change-basketball-etiquette-by-many-names
'make it-take it' is when you are playing half-court three-on-three or something; team that scores gets the ball back
if ppl are just shooting around, getting the ball back is 'change'. only made jumpers tho; no change for layups
ur thoughts?
― mookieproof, Friday, 25 March 2016 16:07 (eight years ago) link
always said change
― Spottie, Friday, 25 March 2016 16:11 (eight years ago) link
lol i read that article too but didn't post it because "change" being the most common made me so angry!! how does that even make sense, the person shooting isn't changing! you pass it back to the same person! it's courtesy btw -- northeast names for things are always better obv
in terms of the etiquette of how it actually works, mookie otm. if you make a jumper you get it back (courtesy). if you miss a jumper, whoever gets the rebound passes you the ball for a layup, and that guy then gets to shoot jumpers
― k3vin k., Friday, 25 March 2016 16:12 (eight years ago) link
so let's say we were shooting around and some dummy grabs my made shot and starts dribbling it himself or whatever. what do you say? "oh it's...change....so kevin gets the ball back" ????? no, everyone looks at him, points to me, and says "courtesy"
― k3vin k., Friday, 25 March 2016 16:14 (eight years ago) link
yeah we called it courtesy
― lag∞n, Friday, 25 March 2016 16:15 (eight years ago) link
change is what you say to pump yourself up. if someone grabs the ball and is dumb i just say give me the ball I'm made it.
― Spottie, Friday, 25 March 2016 16:15 (eight years ago) link
Also have used "respect" on occasion. but honestly everyone i play with knows all this stuff so its been a long time since I've had to use any of this
― Spottie, Friday, 25 March 2016 16:16 (eight years ago) link
btw in colorado they have a weird bad version of make it take it (winners ball where im from folks) where u play losers ball until u score 4 pts then its winners so one team can be ahead and playing winners while the other team is still not getting the ball after made shots seems unnecessarily complicated and makes games more likely to be blowouts idgi
― lag∞n, Friday, 25 March 2016 16:18 (eight years ago) link
what does change mean tho i am so confused, like what does it refer to
― k3vin k., Friday, 25 March 2016 16:18 (eight years ago) link
"give me the ball back"
― Spottie, Friday, 25 March 2016 16:19 (eight years ago) link
omg you poor things
― k3vin k., Friday, 25 March 2016 16:20 (eight years ago) link
like "money"

yeah I've played a lot in places where its winners after 3 to 11
maybe the point is if one team is clearly better just let them end it quickly
― k3vin k., Friday, 25 March 2016 16:24 (eight years ago) link
yeah i kinda liked playing like that. let you continue on a roll if you were feeling it
― Spottie, Friday, 25 March 2016 16:27 (eight years ago) link
some dummy grabs my made shot and starts dribbling it himself or whatever. what do you say?
dude, where's my change?
― mookieproof, Friday, 25 March 2016 16:28 (eight years ago) link
tbf this custom is just ~understood~ and hardly ever mentioned by name
― mookieproof, Friday, 25 March 2016 16:30 (eight years ago) link
as in, that shot was money, where's my change?
― k3vin k., Friday, 25 March 2016 16:30 (eight years ago) link
xp tru
mookie otm
― Spottie, Friday, 25 March 2016 16:30 (eight years ago) link
that was definitely called courtesy when i was a kid though yeah its more of an unspoken rule
― ciderpress, Friday, 25 March 2016 16:46 (eight years ago) link

― ciderpress, Friday, 25 March 2016 16:48 (eight years ago) link
SpottiePosted: March 25, 2016 at 10:27:34 AMyeah i kinda liked playing like that. let you continue on a roll if you were feeling it

― Spottie, Friday, 25 March 2016 18:04 (eight years ago) link
it's really unnecessary everyone remembers the teams after like one play
― k3vin k., Friday, 25 March 2016 18:12 (eight years ago) link
i bought cheap pennies for the guys i play with on tuesdays everyone loves them. take turns taking them home to wash and bring back the next week.
― Spottie, Friday, 25 March 2016 18:13 (eight years ago) link
tbf my understanding is that everyone is stoned all the time there
― mookieproof, Friday, 25 March 2016 19:00 (eight years ago) link
man ive never heard any of this language, never played skins or scored by 1s & 2s. its just king of the court, scorer gets ball and first to 21

i dont want the gym guys to be mad at me tho!
― lag∞n, Sunday, 10 April 2016 02:08 (eight years ago) link
i just hate getting scored on
I used to play in high school and at my peak could briefly touch the bottom part of the rim, like the little loops the net goes through. I'm 5'10". If I get serious about a plyometrics program could I ever dunk? Like, even an undersized ball. I feel that this could motivate me to be more fit if it was possible.
― Treeship, Sunday, 10 April 2016 02:16 (eight years ago) link
Sometimes I dream about dunking. I feel I was born to dunk but physical limitations have gotten in the way.
― Treeship, Sunday, 10 April 2016 02:19 (eight years ago) link
u will not dunk sry, all those stories of guys increasing their vertical ten inches are hogwash, unless they were morbidly obese and lost the weight or w/e
― lag∞n, Sunday, 10 April 2016 02:40 (eight years ago) link
squatting heavy will prob help u more than plyo tho
or cleaning prob even better
― lag∞n, Sunday, 10 April 2016 02:44 (eight years ago) link
actually i believe u can dunk and support u treesh go for it :)
i used to have a rep at the y for being too physical. basketball definitely can bring out the asshole in me.
