man ive never heard any of this language, never played skins or scored by 1s & 2s. its just king of the court, scorer gets ball and first to 21

i just hate getting scored on

lag∞n, Sunday, 10 April 2016 02:08 (eight years ago) link

I used to play in high school and at my peak could briefly touch the bottom part of the rim, like the little loops the net goes through. I'm 5'10". If I get serious about a plyometrics program could I ever dunk? Like, even an undersized ball. I feel that this could motivate me to be more fit if it was possible.

Treeship, Sunday, 10 April 2016 02:16 (eight years ago) link

Sometimes I dream about dunking. I feel I was born to dunk but physical limitations have gotten in the way.

Treeship, Sunday, 10 April 2016 02:19 (eight years ago) link

u will not dunk sry, all those stories of guys increasing their vertical ten inches are hogwash, unless they were morbidly obese and lost the weight or w/e

lag∞n, Sunday, 10 April 2016 02:40 (eight years ago) link

squatting heavy will prob help u more than plyo tho

lag∞n, Sunday, 10 April 2016 02:40 (eight years ago) link

or cleaning prob even better

lag∞n, Sunday, 10 April 2016 02:44 (eight years ago) link

actually i believe u can dunk and support u treesh go for it :)

lag∞n, Sunday, 10 April 2016 02:44 (eight years ago) link

i used to have a rep at the y for being too physical. basketball definitely can bring out the asshole in me.

Heez, Sunday, 10 April 2016 03:11 (eight years ago) link

im not even mad they way i play its normal in ny i swear

lag∞n, Sunday, 10 April 2016 03:13 (eight years ago) link

do they call charges in colorado

mookieproof, Sunday, 10 April 2016 03:21 (eight years ago) link

treeship i believe that you can dunk

Karl Malone, Sunday, 10 April 2016 03:21 (eight years ago) link

no charge calls hardly any fouls called at all which is cool ppl generally pretty agreeable

lag∞n, Sunday, 10 April 2016 03:23 (eight years ago) link

one of the highlights of my life was winning a multi-week 3-pointer tournament in middle school against the star player for the school team (a center, admittedly) despite the fact that i shot with both hands at the same time like i was cruisin' for a bruisin'

Karl Malone, Sunday, 10 April 2016 03:23 (eight years ago) link

niice

lag∞n, Sunday, 10 April 2016 03:23 (eight years ago) link

he was so pissed

Karl Malone, Sunday, 10 April 2016 03:23 (eight years ago) link

hah

lag∞n, Sunday, 10 April 2016 03:24 (eight years ago) link

not only did i win the tournament but i hadn't hit my growth spurt yet so i was like 4'11 - 5'01 ish\

meanwhile this dude was having sex left and right probably

Karl Malone, Sunday, 10 April 2016 03:24 (eight years ago) link

tbf its hard to shoot when yr having sex on both sides

lag∞n, Sunday, 10 April 2016 03:25 (eight years ago) link

i'm the type that gives people shit for not playing good d. i'm sorry it's unacceptable

Heez, Sunday, 10 April 2016 03:26 (eight years ago) link

there was a dude playing zero D today and he was on my team and we got destroyed then we switched teams and i roasted him

lag∞n, Sunday, 10 April 2016 03:27 (eight years ago) link

i don't remember many details but let's just pretend that i was like "hey there superstar, i bet you're exhausted, but why doncha try THIS on for size??" before shooting with both hands and gaining a commanding 5 to 3 lead with only 3 shots to go.

Karl Malone, Sunday, 10 April 2016 03:28 (eight years ago) link

was this a school sanctioned tournament or just something that was happening on the playground or what

lag∞n, Sunday, 10 April 2016 03:29 (eight years ago) link

school sanctioned lunch tournament, so all of the players who were also into eating lunch didn't participate

Karl Malone, Sunday, 10 April 2016 03:30 (eight years ago) link

but i knew that sometimes excellence requires sacrifice

Karl Malone, Sunday, 10 April 2016 03:30 (eight years ago) link

fools eating lunch when they cldve been launching threes smh

lag∞n, Sunday, 10 April 2016 03:31 (eight years ago) link

I was nearly 6' when I was 17 (now I am only a bit over 5'10" - old age shrinkage) but I have always had tiny hands. Even when I could almost jump high enough to rise above the rim, there was no way my hands were big enough to grasp and control the ball for a dunk. It would fly off my hand comically. Plus, I wasn't especially quick. I concentrated on playing good defensive position, moving my feet and boxing out on rebounds, and that was the strong part of my game.

a little too mature to be cute (Aimless), Sunday, 10 April 2016 04:17 (eight years ago) link

Would not play with heez

Better Pau Gasol (Spottie), Sunday, 10 April 2016 05:04 (eight years ago) link

It's crazy how far basic sound fundamentals will get you in pick up ball

Better Pau Gasol (Spottie), Sunday, 10 April 2016 05:05 (eight years ago) link

there's a 7fter who plays with us now. luckily he's slow so when he rotates to shot block your layup/teardrop, just have to give eyebrow fake and spring to other side of the hoop and bam wide open layup.

A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Monday, 11 April 2016 18:23 (eight years ago) link

that is extremely tall

lag∞n, Monday, 11 April 2016 18:38 (eight years ago) link

yeah pretty ridic to see him playing with all rest of us 6'3" and under. 6'5" ex-college player returns in July, looking forward to that matchup.

A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Monday, 11 April 2016 18:41 (eight years ago) link

I think it was an article linked here on ILH that said that some amazingly high percentage of all the 7 ft. and above men in the USA had been under contract in the NBA at some point in their lives. I expect this probably did not include extremely slow 7fters.

a little too mature to be cute (Aimless), Monday, 11 April 2016 18:41 (eight years ago) link

He claims he played D1 for a time but we are skeptical. Tho there are some schools that are D1 that are basically at D2 level quality of play, eg NAU up the road from me.

A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Monday, 11 April 2016 18:47 (eight years ago) link

sort of feel like if you're 7 feet tall and haven't played at a really high level you're probably a klutz

k3vin k., Monday, 11 April 2016 18:54 (eight years ago) link

Aye. Plus dude is in town for rehab so whatever habit he had couldn't have helped...
