Spottie, Thursday, 9 June 2016 18:48 (eight years ago) link

if Clay hasn't secured a pair of those yet he may not be worthy to post at ILH anymore

I can't really ball due to injury so I don't own any bball shoes! My understanding is these are pretty hard to find though? Ltd edition maybe?

Clay, Thursday, 9 June 2016 21:07 (eight years ago) link

you don't have to ball to BALL bro

Spottie, Thursday, 9 June 2016 21:08 (eight years ago) link

and yeah those are ltd I'm sure

Spottie, Thursday, 9 June 2016 21:09 (eight years ago) link

but yeah I wouldn't rock them mainly bc of the meme quality. wearing those in portland is on some wearing the band's tshirt to their concert tip.

Clay, Thursday, 9 June 2016 21:10 (eight years ago) link

lol reminds me I saw a car on mississippi ave the other day with a "put a bird on it" bumper sticker and I just about nuked the town

Clay, Thursday, 9 June 2016 21:11 (eight years ago) link

had to look that up. have only been able to stomach about 45 seconds of that show in the past

Spottie, Thursday, 9 June 2016 21:14 (eight years ago) link

not sure how portland has avoided nuking this long tbh

lag∞n, Thursday, 9 June 2016 21:14 (eight years ago) link

unfortunately a fairly large contingent of under-30 recent arrivals (i.e. half the population) chose to move here because of that show.

Clay, Thursday, 9 June 2016 21:16 (eight years ago) link

thats like when ppl were moving to ny cause of sex in the city its like no i dont think u understand the show

lag∞n, Thursday, 9 June 2016 21:17 (eight years ago) link

Portland was just a fine liberalish town with a nice bookstore and a bunch of good movie theaters until about ten years ago when it became some kinda post-college destination. And then the last few years the tech-boom + portlandia element led to me praying for the willamette to rise and wash it all to sea.

Clay, Thursday, 9 June 2016 21:19 (eight years ago) link

its legal to push unicyclers into traffic read yr constitution

lag∞n, Thursday, 9 June 2016 21:21 (eight years ago) link

hey if jordan comes around this is my general "hey Jordan can I pitch a gawker piece about how Fred armisen and a bunch of bezos jrs turned my perfectly nice and quiet city of mopey guitar players into an upscale sportsbar circus for brocoders and podcasters who can't get past level 2 of their intro to improv classes" thanks in advance bud

Clay, Thursday, 9 June 2016 21:28 (eight years ago) link

so like this http://gawker.com/how-amazon-swallowed-seattle-1724795265

but about portland?

sounds good to me

J0rdan S., Thursday, 9 June 2016 21:45 (eight years ago) link

i'll read that tonight and talk to some longtime residents and see if i can find a worthwhile angle, but i'm sure the mercury and the willamette week have prob done this article a hundred times already. but it might be interesting to
write it for an audience that isn't people who already live here and have the same complaints.

avia made the worst dad sneaks but the 1988 iteration of drexlers were pretty good and are overlooked imo http://images.complex.com/complex/image/upload/c_limit,fl_progressive,q_80,w_680/lfy20t5n3g4bzsnaeou2.jpg

these new stephs are getting ROASTED on twitter lol

k3vin k., Friday, 10 June 2016 02:36 (eight years ago) link

hahaha been watching that. tho in a v perverse way this thread and those twitter roasts make me want to get some of these shoes. i firmly fall into the unintentional normcore fashion aesthetic and have purchased more than my share of clothes at costco. my most recent sneakers were $12 dollar store nike knockoffs.

I'm probably too old even for regrettable dad sneakers. I played ball in the street. Badly. In whatever were the cheapest sneakers available. When Phil Knight was still selling shoes from the trunk of his car.

Spottie, Friday, 10 June 2016 16:42 (eight years ago) link

For real y'all ever put on a pair of Nike Monaco type jams, can't speak to that one specifically but some of their dad shoes are some comfortable ass kicks

gis for westbrook shark jump (agent hibachi), Friday, 10 June 2016 20:03 (eight years ago) link

ESPN should amend the "how Nike lost steph" article though and just add a photo of those with the price is right you lost theme playing on a loop
