i have something to say about the offseason THE 2016 NBA OFFSEASON

imo that is a pretty unexceptional team for the amount of $ they spent

all the signings except evan turner of course are defensible imo but ya taken as a group theyre not too impressive

yeah if any team is indicative of the downside of the ballooning cap and how it can hurt a team it's portland's ridiculously bad summer

and don't forget they'll have to max mccollum prob next summer and i think plumlee will be eligible for a rich extension too. and haven't even matched whatever $50mil offer harkless eventually gets.

yeah i think the blazers may have locked themselves into an undesirable situation. their sick backcourt means they're a player away from being really really interesting and i would have been holding out for that possibility.

they played the warriors really well and everyone is young and will get better and they (over)paid for some depth. Think they'll be fine. They're prob not gonna lure a big name so that's the next best thing. The turner overpay is p weird tho.

I'm sure we'll find out what happened with the Turner thing at some point. I think the idea was with the extensions they're signing next summer they had to use the money now or never use it, so the FO just outright panicked when parsons slipped away

"they're prob not gonna lure a big name" is what everyone says about the celtics but i'd rather keep my options open and come up empty than spend that money on guys who will be 3/4 bench players

Meyers had his chance to prove himself last year but underperformed and then got injured

the gap between evan turner and aminu or harkless or whoever you have backing him is pretty tiny (arguably nonexistent in this specific example) compared to the gap between turner and some actually good wing like say gordon hayward

there's a reason you need star players to contend in basketball and it's because the star players are just worth way more than the average players, it's not linear

i think they're better than this but sorta wonder if the the turner contract is a suns-ish moment where the rebuild got sped up and inadvertantly gummed up the plans

that is a v good theory, something i've been stabbing at but hadn't really internally articulated

i think dame & CJ are too good for that but they spent a lot of money this offseason & i don't see how they got better

tho ezili at less than $8 million per year is pretty nice tho

tho they do still have guys like harkless and vonleh who could get a lot better suddenly

i really don't think harkless is significantly worse than ET and could be a fair amount better
