listening to the Kyrie episode of JJ Redick's podcast and kyrie is a weirdo. anyway in a snippet of it JJ said the rim on one side of the court (at the England arena) was crooked. 76ers shot well in the first half and Boston in the 2nd half. idk thought that was interesting

the minn broadcast team is good like everyone says. i actually learn stuff from those guys.

i love the basketball jones/the starters weekly pod, but I could understand if it is way too silly for some. Road trippin is occasionally entertaining. The Ringer's NBA pods should be much better than they are. Give Shea Serrano a podcast, simmons!

i can only (sporadically) get into the tv show around all-star game and playoffs, but yeah they are inspirations

my fav hoops pod rn is brian windhorst's espn pod w/ the other espn basketball ppl. it's basically the old truehoop podcast but w/ all good/smart writers and no "personalities" like amin or the more talk radio-ish guys that used to be on the truehoop pods. windhorst is kind of a garbage writer but as a moderator of conversation he's good bcuz he is very very knowledgeable about the league.

i listen to it cause brian is good but i actually hate the combinations of guests who rarely seem to have any chemistry. other than bontemps whose grumpiness i enjoy they can be a drag.

it's a little worse now bcuz jackie macmullan is out... sometimes it's a weird crew. kirk goldsberry in partic is not very good.

windy is cool enough. he knows a lot for sure, seems really plugged in. i havent listened to his pod recently ill get back into it. dude lacks any sense of humor tho.

windy has a sense of humor but like any good midwesterner it's extremely dry.

i was wondering why he was absent from the show the last few days…

i cannot stand his snide nasal voice, he sounds like he hates basketball most of the time

bontemps rules fuck the haters. knows way more ball than the other two. I was also puzzled by his absence recently

there have been other journalists who took jobs in NBA front offices. hollinger, seth partnow, dave cameron in baseball, etc. but generally they’re more analytics-focused analysts rather than reporters/talking heads. bontemps seemed to be the most fluent in modern nba analysis of the three but didn’t really strike me as a quant or anything

right....bontemps unquestionably knows his stuff but i'm not sure what value he's bringing to a front office role specifically

it would be a bummer if he left the show

i know. they don't really have anyone i love in the backlog. bobby marks is the man but probably not up for the 2 or 3 times a week grind.

vinnie goodwill is awesome, been one of my favorite basketball podcast guests for years, mostly on bomani’s show, he has the right mix of reporting, access, knowing the game, shoots it straight, personality etc

when i talked to bontempts for the thing i wrote for the 4tl4nt1c he was very helpful & generous with his time but also didn’t really hide it when he thought i didn’t know what i was talking about, very much what you get on the podcast

wrt bontemps, he definitely knows his stuff but the arrogance and impatience have really worn on me (and yeah he's pretty nasal). if vinnie moves into his chair it will be a little more bro-ey -- he and mcmahon have slightly similar personas despite different energies -- but i think an overall step up

if you don't aspire in your heart of hearts to get beers with bobby and listen to him tell crazy stories about the nets old days idk what to tell you

the thing with windy and the tims is theyre busting each others balls thats the dynamic of the show whoever steps in has to play along or its not cool

the bontempts hate in this thread is completely foreign to me, he is one of my fav commenters in any sport period. the fact that he's kind of an asshole is what makes him good at his job!

macmahon is definitely better at tempering being an asshole w/ humor and self deprecation but you can tell he is also very good at his job because he is an asshole

and then you have windy who is like "i would rather kill myself before offending an agent, but i'm gonna say it anyway!" it's a great balance, i'm already sad, plz make vinnie a permanent co host

I’m very curious to find out what his role with the team is actually going to be

same. the clippers hired lee jenkins years back to be their "executive director of research & identity" (whatever that means) and it looks like he might still be there as "VP of basketball affairs" (whatever that means). i have to imagine tim's role would be something like that as opposed to a pure front office basketball role but i guess we'll see

bontemps knowing everyone prob has value but im sure there are a lot of front office guys who know everyone too

i have been with you jOrdan on bontemps for a long time but this season i started to find him more overbearing and exhausting. making fun of windy for 'discovering' wemby as one example is a funny bit but got so repetitive and started to take on a mean-spirited tone after awhile. i concede it might not be that at all but it got unpleasant to listen to. in contrast one of my favorite bits is both tims being absolute trivia masters and windy always getting everything egregiously wrong

bobby marks -- i have subconsciously internalized harsh judgment of him for being the architect of a decade of nets ineptitude, and find the idea of him being any kind of an expert basketball team management analyst to be a ludicrous concept as a result. but maybe as a celtics fan i should venerate him for his role in their rise idk. separate from all that, though, the word that comes to mind is nebbish... he doesn't really take stands, what he brings to the table is solid knowledge of CBA/cap arcana, and not much beyond that. but yeah i could imagine getting a beer with him and hearing his stories, i'll give you that.

yeah i never viewed bobby as an architect of anything—he was literally their cap guy and stuck in a classic horrible bosses situation

Warriors announcers voted worst in the league for the third straight year. And it's 100% accurate. I don't know what Fitz's leverage is but it's a wonder he's still here.
