give the hornets brad stevens and kemba would waltz to an all-star. the talent is there, but the hornets aren't going to maximize it.

the mkg pick feels like something that might not happen in the draft today--last remnants of an old way of doing things or something like that.
― call all destroyer, Monday, March 26, 2018 10:50 PM (yesterday) Bookmark
i remember john hollinger arguing at the time that MKG was the right second pick because his defensive potential meant his floor was really high, and i guess in a sense he was right... like MKG is a disappointment but he's not hasheem thabeet. but i feel like the way the league is now you wouldn't pick a guy that high whose shot was in that form (lonzo at least had good numbers in college). maybe josh jackson is testing my theory tho

I literally had forgotten about fultz’s existence until a week or so ago and it’s kinda weird that they’re playing him at all this late but it’s probably good for his confidence to play 10 games or w/e at semi nba speed

Clifford looked good 2 years ago but the team has fallen off pretty hard with roughly the same roster. they should be making the offs in the east with their current guys imo
― ciderpress, Tuesday, 27 March 2018 14:24 (six years ago) link
i don't think they're a bottom 10 org tho. would put them closer to the middle
― ciderpress, Tuesday, 27 March 2018 14:27 (six years ago) link
they should have beat the heat in that series a few years ago but marvin williams missed 150 three pointers and they faced a wade who had just stepped out of a time machine. they would have lost to toronto so i don't think it would have mattered either way, but that team was pretty good. i don't think i've seen the hornets play a full game this year so idk how much of it is clifford but just looking at the roster.. but when you're surrounding kemba w/ marvin, batum, dwight, kaminsky, jeremy lamb and MKG that just seems like a roster construction problem that idk how you would solve, especially offensively you have a dynamic offensive player surrounded by guys who are decent at best.
― J0rdan S., Tuesday, 27 March 2018 14:29 (six years ago) link
i'd believe that the hornets are a bottom 10 org. you can make all sorts of front office and coaching and roster changes but if you have an owner who doesn't know what he's doing then that's a permanent debilitation (shoutout james dolan). what do the hornets want to be as a team? what kind of players do they value? why? what's their system? what kind of players would succeed for them but fail in other places? why? how do they acquire those players? all these sorts of questions can be answered by/for good orgs and for the hornets i have literally no idea what you would say to any of those kinds of questions.

yeah i've watched more heat games this year than any since the bron era. more often than not they're just a little too limited against great teams, but the style of play can be intoxicating.
Spoelstra has learned how to coach. Having Riley as a mentor probably helped.

Yeah I’ll third or fourth co-sign the heat being really fun even though their best guys top out at like borderline all stars in a weak conference. They have lots of dudes who just get after it. Spo has known how to coach for a long time (I give him lots of credit for steering the bron big 3 era so well when plenty of other coaches would have crashed that ship) but he’s done a masterful job turning not great rosters into tough ass teams a couple times in the last few years

MIAMI -- LeBron James has someone in mind for the MVP award this season.Himself.This is a season in which prohibitive MVP favorite James Harden has done phenomenal things with NBA-leading Houston, reigning MVP Russell Westbrook has been fantastic again for Oklahoma City, and Anthony Davis has found a new stratosphere to take his game, especially after New Orleans lost DeMarcus Cousins.James raves about them all. But ..."I would vote for me," James told The Associated Press. "The body of work, how I'm doing it, what's been happening with our team all year long, how we've got so many injuries and things of that nature, guys in and out, to be able to still keep this thing afloat, I definitely would vote me."

ugh. i don't know how Pop has the Spurs where they are. I mean i *know* but it's still pretty impressive. Another winning season locked up. though the 50-win seasons streak is basically over, they'd have to win out to make it 19 in a row.
― omar little, Wednesday, 28 March 2018 16:25 (six years ago) link
theyre in danger of missing out on the offs if LMA misses time. two games up on LAC but they play each other one more time and between now and that matchup they play OKC and Houston.
