Kyrie's knee thing is very troubling. Heard something (maybe on here) about people who tear their patella have increased risk of arthritis.

they are insanely gritty what wld really be the most appropriate zenith to this season is them beating the cavs in the 2nd round with a starting 5 of horford/morris/tatum/brown/rozier all playing out of their minds and being total psychos on D
― lag∞n, Thursday, 5 April 2018 18:23 (six years ago) link
this season has been bullshit for injuries. amazing how many great players are out or hobbled. yet amazingly Derrick Rose only has a sprained ankle.

There is another possibility. With the rise of sports science and armies of injury-prevention staffers in place, teams may be increasingly more risk-averse when it comes to bringing guys back from injury. With more information than ever thanks to wearable tracking (outside of games) and fancy sports-science departments, it seems teams are being more careful than ever. Some in the league think that's the good, safe approach. But others believe the DNP-rest movement has gone too far, erring too much on the side of caution rather than understanding that playing basketball will always present reasonable risk. One executive called it "paralysis by analysis."Injuries are up by 10 percent, but time missed due to injury is up by about 25 percent, per Stotts' analysis. So, yes, players are out longer.

that's an interesting dimension that i hadn't thought of. could be a fluke given some of the weird injuries this season.

the wolves don't really deserve to make the playoffs if they can't win games like that so i guess it is what it is....

Im cool with guys taking full recovery time because it means more of them will have full careers instead of being broken down at like 30 but we’ve definitely had a lot of freak injuries this year and it seems to have randomly hit star level guys more than anything
The pace thing is interesting though I wonder how the injury rates match up with earlier high pace eras overall

I’m still I need mourning over kyrie btw but it is now kind of funny how the kyrie isiah trade wound up being a swap of damaged goods
Hopefully temporarily damaged in kyrie case

in the historical highest pace eras no one really played any D m/l just ran back and forth hoisting, if theres something about todays game thats causing more injuries its prob more like pace + intensity/style of play, like literally double teaming wasnt a thing in those classic wilt/russell battles nowadays everyone is rotating constantly so theyre not just running up and down the court theyre running side to side which is prob way more taxing on the body since theyre cutting jumping reacting and so forth while doing it
― lag∞n, Friday, 6 April 2018 14:34 (six years ago) link
not that long ago when they iso/post up were bigger parts of the game and they played slower there was a ton of standing around not doing much during the game
― lag∞n, Friday, 6 April 2018 14:36 (six years ago) link
maybe the league should go back to everyone playing in hi top chucks
― they call me melo gelo (Spottie), Friday, 6 April 2018 14:38 (six years ago) link
I figure as much as well lagoon I’m just curious data wise if early faster eras had high injury rates too since barely anyone stretched and like three guys played above the rim. Agree that the amount of ground covered and lateral movement is much higher for a lot of players now, seem to recall some articles a few years ago about various swingmen who had to switch from bulking up in the offseason to losing weight and aiming for flexibility to stay on the court
Wish evolution could catch up and grant us a full ball joint knee adaptation or something lol
