It was sort of a favor. He opted in because it looked like they were bringing back/improving the team to contend. When Ainge and co had to switch to retooling he asked for a trade. It sounds like he would have opted out if he knew about Kyrie and Al going elsewhere.

i agree with the underlying axiom of that which is that the celtics should not increase the number of ball dominant players they have. i'm down with taking kemba in if someone else is being sent out

is the implication that they're going to just sign him outright rather than do a sign-and-trade? i feel like that would eat up most if not all of their space and then they'd be left with, what, Gordon Hayward guarding their back line of defense?

yeah idk have to assume the celtics are aware they dont have any centers but not sure what their plan is

the base year compensation rules make it next to impossible to do a sign and trade with kemba.

sign and trades have become really hard to do. i'd bet against seeing a single one this offseason tbh.

getting kemba would be a pretty impressive pivot for the celtics given that he's the best free agent they reasonably have a shot at. i think you can go back and forth on how good he *actually* is but he's the type of guy that has thrived on brad stevens teams, he won't need to do as much as he did in charlotte, he's going to be a huge hit with the city, etc. etc.

they still have $5m bucks or so to get a center which should be plenty.

i don't think they would (or should) but if they feel they can't keep both turner and sabonis then they could make sabonis the starting 5, not pay bogdanovic who is older and replace him with brown, pay thad young for defense, and set up the team that way. it's a path that makes some sense but i think they will try to play sabonis and turner together until they realize it doesn't work.

yeah it solves positional issues for them and they get a really good young player
