My memory of redick was that the defense was good by year 2 because the offense was struggling and he needed to compensate.

Matt Armstrong, Friday, 1 November 2019 18:56 (five years ago)

imo he’s a classic example of a guy who does everything pretty well and one thing very well

Matt Armstrong, Friday, 1 November 2019 18:57 (five years ago)

also has a great motor cool with just running around the whole game. he's a master of off-balance shooting, feel like he shoots as good fading to his right as he does completely set

de-mamba mentality (Spottie), Friday, 1 November 2019 18:59 (five years ago)

he also got into sick shape, has to be one of the best-conditioned guys nowadays. for a guy who was wildly entitled and overrated coming out of school i give him credit for figuring out what he needed to change to stick in the nba and making it happen.

got over my Q Rich dislike...Knuckleheads is really good

A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Wednesday, 20 November 2019 18:09 (five years ago)

someone like Durant comes off much differently (ie better) with them 2 than any other interview I've heard

Have they said what the knuckles meant yet

Matt Armstrong, Wednesday, 20 November 2019 18:18 (five years ago)

iirc in an article from like last year miles said they stole it from a LA high school team and before that theyve said it was a pulling yr antenna out gesture ie having high awareness

I loved that clippers team btw

Matt Armstrong, Wednesday, 20 November 2019 20:32 (five years ago)

That was the first clippers team that made people really think things could change there. Obviously the Elton Brand teams fulfilled it.

Matt Armstrong, Wednesday, 20 November 2019 20:34 (five years ago)

nah that would be the early 90's teams with Manning imo , they made it to the playoffs for the first time in LA two years in a row.

(•̪●) (carne asada), Wednesday, 20 November 2019 21:36 (five years ago)

Yeah but those teams had larry brown coaching, that doesn’t count. The bobcats made the playoffs with Larry brown.

Matt Armstrong, Wednesday, 20 November 2019 21:39 (five years ago)

true! we were hyped for them though and went to a bunch of games those years . it was fun.

(•̪●) (carne asada), Wednesday, 20 November 2019 21:42 (five years ago)

big draw of course was those tickets were cheap and we couldn't really afford to go The Forum much.

(•̪●) (carne asada), Wednesday, 20 November 2019 21:44 (five years ago)

I like the podcast the guys from The Starters do for the Athletic, No Dunks. You may need a subscription for it

Matt Armstrong, Thursday, 21 November 2019 16:11 (five years ago)

idk dunks are good imo

lag∞n, Thursday, 21 November 2019 16:34 (five years ago)

you don't need an athletic subscription for those pods. they're good but it's a little too much content every day, I'm listening to 2-3 a week

jesus is zing (symsymsym), Thursday, 21 November 2019 18:30 (five years ago)

They cut loose more than they did on tv and also make fun of each other more

Matt Armstrong, Thursday, 21 November 2019 19:10 (five years ago)

yeah I always liked their podcasts way more than the tv show, they're much better at shooting the shit than fitting into the rigid sports TV format

jesus is zing (symsymsym), Thursday, 21 November 2019 19:30 (five years ago)

I really like Drew Gooden on the wizards broadcast team. Great voice, easy-going homerism.

Looking forward to listening to this, I just got hip to this pod and it’s great, lmfao when Jax was talking about how JJ Redick got him to start wearing classier watches and Barnes says “He respectfully shitted on your watch.”

one thing i do hate about them is they have this tic where they refer to anything as "the (x) thing" ... "and then the brogdon thing happened" "are we gonna talk about the griffin thing" and sometimes they'll just refer to a "thing" esp from the past where you're like wait that's a thing? i really hate it

This stands out to me SO much more now since you posted this. lmao youve almost ruined them for me.

Thybulle on the Dash (Spottie), Wednesday, 26 February 2020 22:10 (five years ago)

look it's hard for me to listen to it myself

J0rdan S., Thursday, 27 February 2020 01:16 (five years ago)

I’m surprised no one has brought this to their attention. It would be fine on occasion but it’s become like an every topic filler word

Thybulle on the Dash (Spottie), Thursday, 27 February 2020 02:53 (five years ago)

This has probably been discussed upthread but the scourge of referring to players by their first names has to stop. Exceptions obv for guys with cool or iconic names like Zion or Lebron or Luka but foh with referring to Simmons as Ben or Harden as James like they’re your buddies

i'm pretty sure russillo is aware that he does this. it's of a piece with his meta approach to talking about sports.

listened to JR Rider episode of All The Smoke and was like man I think I've been confusing JR Rider & Isaiah Rider my whole life. Googled him and discovered the shocking truth...

Spottie, Friday, 17 April 2020 23:28 (five years ago)

I hope this doesn't sound condescending or like I'm playing into gender stereotypes but I really enjoyed hearing Jackie MacMullan talk about MJ on Zack Lowe's podcast and provide a feminine perspective. "You're a details guy, Zack, I'm all about the emotional experience". It does get a bit old to hear nothing but men give their takes on NBA past & present, which as a whole pay very little attention to emotional, personal, family history, etc matters.

A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Wednesday, 22 April 2020 19:32 (five years ago)

she also had some good "bball breakdown" type nuggets, such as how Dennis Johnson was the 1st person who pointed out to her some of the things MJ was doing on defense

lol my first thought

Webber isn’t very popular with viewers, which is often indicated by “Chris Webber” being a trending topic on Twitter on the nights he’s calling a game.

lag∞n, Friday, 7 May 2021 23:05 (four years ago)

the time has certainly come...

J0rdan S., Friday, 7 May 2021 23:11 (four years ago)
