the talent gap isnt even that big tbh. and being that kemba is willing to do the things (move around off the ball) that kyrie wasnt willing to do it may even be an upgrade.
― de-mamba mentality (Spottie), Monday, 11 November 2019 22:02 (five years ago) link
i agree with this statement, kyries balls topping was a big problem

also his poor defense

enjoying kemba strategy too hes totally playing the closer, pretty much chills in the flow of the offense until its faltering then attacks

lol theres a tall nerd kemba likes to pick on
Kemba drills this shot over 6-foot-10 Maxi Kleber. He simulated this type of shot over a big time and time again during his pregame workout by shooting them over 7-foot-2 member of the Celtics video team Jordan Bachynski. pic.twitter.com/EtXFazTLVY— Marc D'Amico (@Marc_DAmico) November 12, 2019

rating the celtics roster by celtics mindtype levels
top tier extreme feistiness1 marcus smart (obvs)kemba walker jaylen brown
solid less passionate but with gritjayson tatumdaniel theisgrant williamsbrad wanamaker
existing outside conventional definitions of a celtic or not a celticrob williams
tantalizing basketballwise unclear celticswiseromeocarsen edwardstako falljavonte greentremont watersvincent poirier
just bad at basketball sorrysemi
does not possess the celtics mindtypeenes kanter (thinks hes cute)gordon hayward (should be repatriated to the midwest where he can game in peace)
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 12 November 2019 17:09 (five years ago) link
if they constructed a roster of all top two tier players +rob williams they could out perform their talent by two playoff rounds
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 12 November 2019 17:20 (five years ago) link
they already have a starting 5 that fits the bill (tho theis is prob better coming off the bench), and they have hayward kanter young guys and draft picks to trade....
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 12 November 2019 17:23 (five years ago) link
fwiw im sure were about to have a media deluge of are the celtics for real and speaking as someone who has watched most of the games i can confidently say theyre not nearly as good as their record/point differential wld suggest, pretty much the only game they looked really good was vs the spurs, this is mostly due to their bench being trash which is now exacerbated by hayward being out, theyre prob about to take some not great losses, their starting 5 is legit tho (wld be even more so w a starting quality center).......
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 12 November 2019 17:28 (five years ago) link
also the starting 5 w smart instead of hayward just makes more sense (even tho he has been great) theres just not enough shots to go around w kemba jaylen hayward and jayson all out there
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 12 November 2019 17:30 (five years ago) link
they're certainly not the best team in the league but i don't think 8-1 is a top decile outcome for them or anything
― ciderpress, Tuesday, 12 November 2019 17:56 (five years ago) link
think it might be tho the sched has been weak and the vibes good
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 12 November 2019 18:01 (five years ago) link
it's 1-2 more wins than you'd expect them to get in 9 games doesn't seem taht crazy
― ciderpress, Tuesday, 12 November 2019 18:02 (five years ago) link
if they're like 13-1 after 5 more games then we can talk
― ciderpress, Tuesday, 12 November 2019 18:03 (five years ago) link
javonte green is on Every Player today, seems like a good omen
― ciderpress, Tuesday, 12 November 2019 18:04 (five years ago) link
i agree with those tiers, i am interested to see if grant could break into the top tier once he gets a little more acclimated.
as far as how good they are i think there's indicators in both directions--brad has been trying a *lot* of combinations to get bench minutes and i expect one or two of them will settle in as decent units. on the other hand kemba's shooting is going to cool off and i'm getting increasingly worried that tatum's offense isn't going to approach what we hoped.
a top-2 seed in the east is much more in play than i expected since neither the sixers or bucks look super amazing.
― call all destroyer, Tuesday, 12 November 2019 18:06 (five years ago) link
kemba might just be that good at shooting considering the type of shots he had to take in charlotte w bad teammates
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 12 November 2019 18:10 (five years ago) link
he's def capable of 40% from 3 dunno about 43%
― ciderpress, Tuesday, 12 November 2019 18:13 (five years ago) link
yeah seems reasonable, and a lot of those are created of the dribble which if he sustains it makes him an elite shooter
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 12 November 2019 18:14 (five years ago) link
yeah i'd expect to see him back at more like 40% from 3. hasn't been great on 2s so far so maybe an improvement there would even out.
― call all destroyer, Tuesday, 12 November 2019 18:15 (five years ago) link

― call all destroyer, Tuesday, November 12, 2019 1:06 PM (seventeen minutes ago) bookmarkflaglink
his path to offensive stardom prob goes through becoming an elite shooter ie being able to hit all those crossover into a stepback type shots which hes still on the trajectory for tho obvs its one of the hardest things to do so who knows, then from there he can pick his spots on drives but yeah he doesnt seem like he has star level finishing ability/feel/creativity around the basket, hes been trying to work in a floater this year and it looks just awful so far, hes already great in the open court so hes got that going for him
the good underreported news on him is hes also already a great defender and only getting better, so who knows maybe he ends up more of a two way player second banana on offense wldnt be the end of the world
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 12 November 2019 18:29 (five years ago) link
yeah, i think the immediate thing for this season is units that are just like tatum plus bench guys and if those are playable at all on offense. if jaylen's driving/slashing game keeps looking good he might be the better offensive lead guy on a bench unit while gordo is out.
― call all destroyer, Tuesday, 12 November 2019 18:35 (five years ago) link

didnt see it what did he do
― lag∞n, Thursday, 14 November 2019 03:09 (five years ago) link
he had semi still in the game missing layups under 2 mins with the wizards within 5. probably should have taken a timeout at 1:34 when it was 137-132. needed a clutch kemba 3 at 1:06 to put them up 7 and basically seal it.
they were playing no defense at all and i'm guessing he wanted them to feel the pressure a bit but they're starting a 5 game west coast trip and as a fan i was like let's just bank the damn win.

really need 1 more decent rotation player on the bench for times like these, missing starter minutes filtering down to rookies is not working out
