you don't need an athletic subscription for those pods. they're good but it's a little too much content every day, I'm listening to 2-3 a week

They cut loose more than they did on tv and also make fun of each other more

yeah I always liked their podcasts way more than the tv show, they're much better at shooting the shit than fitting into the rigid sports TV format

I really like Drew Gooden on the wizards broadcast team. Great voice, easy-going homerism.

Looking forward to listening to this, I just got hip to this pod and it’s great, lmfao when Jax was talking about how JJ Redick got him to start wearing classier watches and Barnes says “He respectfully shitted on your watch.”

one thing i do hate about them is they have this tic where they refer to anything as "the (x) thing" ... "and then the brogdon thing happened" "are we gonna talk about the griffin thing" and sometimes they'll just refer to a "thing" esp from the past where you're like wait that's a thing? i really hate it

This has probably been discussed upthread but the scourge of referring to players by their first names has to stop. Exceptions obv for guys with cool or iconic names like Zion or Lebron or Luka but foh with referring to Simmons as Ben or Harden as James like they’re your buddies

I hope this doesn't sound condescending or like I'm playing into gender stereotypes but I really enjoyed hearing Jackie MacMullan talk about MJ on Zack Lowe's podcast and provide a feminine perspective. "You're a details guy, Zack, I'm all about the emotional experience". It does get a bit old to hear nothing but men give their takes on NBA past & present, which as a whole pay very little attention to emotional, personal, family history, etc matters.

she also had some good "bball breakdown" type nuggets, such as how Dennis Johnson was the 1st person who pointed out to her some of the things MJ was doing on defense

replacing chuck is probably an impossible job bcuz he created an entirely new role for an ex-player analyst that doesn't really feel repeatable, like threading this needle where your opinion is respected across the nba but also the whole shtick around you on TV is that you don't watch the games. it just seems like he's the only one that can really pull that off. draymond will have to figure out his own personality.

but i do think he brings his basketball intellect to the broadcasts in a real way, in the discussion on inside tonight about sixers-hawks he brought up how embiid was going to be able defend pick and rolls w/ his knee injury. it really felt like a good fusion between draymond the elite defender and draymond the announcer, whereas shaq was just, like, braying about how the hawks were going to win the series w/o raising any sort of intellectual point about the play
