bold takes from brad:

Brad Stevens: "We will look to fill our roster out with guys that are skilled."

“Skilled players” the new “3>2”

Lavator Shemmelpennick, Friday, 11 February 2022 14:41 (two years ago) link

gotta agree with brad here skills are good as far as filling out the roster goes

lag∞n, Friday, 11 February 2022 18:21 (two years ago) link

The only point of those Q&A sessions with the media is to give the sports writers something to put inside quotation marks as filler after the first three or so paragraphs where they've exhausted all there is to tell, but must write another eight paragraphs after that.

"we're looking for people who play basketball professionally"

i cannot help if you made yourself not funny (forksclovetofu), Friday, 11 February 2022 19:29 (two years ago) link

given the state of boston's bench the last few years i can understand why finding "guys that are skilled" would be a legitimate goal for brad

ive read a bunch of stuff about these trades and everyones talking about theis as a third center, injury protection, long term replacement etc but no one seems to be hip to the possibility that the celtics are just planning on going big all the time, which makes a lot of sense considering they sent out two perimeter players and got back one and a big

like right now horf is starting at the 4 and then playing a lot of 5 the rest of the game but what if theis took those 5 minutes and horf plays mostly 4 with grant backing him up, theyve been having so much success with the big starting unit why not do it all the time, and it doesnt make a ton of sense to trade for theis who has a pretty big contract if youre not really planning on playing him

welcome derrick

Derrick White will play tonight, I’m told.

i don’t understand how dudes just play for a team right away. isn’t there a system? plays??

Tracer Hand, Saturday, 12 February 2022 00:27 (two years ago) link

i mean yeah but also all plays are kind of the same

lag∞n, Saturday, 12 February 2022 00:28 (two years ago) link

spread pick n roll, read n react, switch on d. its all the same.

Spottie, Saturday, 12 February 2022 00:35 (two years ago) link

i think players who step in to play immediately after a mid-season trade are more likely to get out of place on defense, where quick team communication and instant reaction are more critical. offense is easier to pick up.

smart 3 steals in the 1st

lag∞n, Saturday, 12 February 2022 01:00 (two years ago) link

white made some nice plays, enjoying the white era

i think there is something to this and i forgot how much money he's making tbh. it is definitely a hedge for when they move on from horf first and foremost IMO, but as you say there's no reason he can't absorb some minutes at the 5 this year and form a solid 4-man rotation along with rob, al, and grant.

lag∞n, Saturday, 12 February 2022 02:52 (two years ago) link

boston undefeated with derrick white

class project pat (m bison), Saturday, 12 February 2022 02:55 (two years ago) link

good game for him i think he gonna be a real nice player for the celtics

lag∞n, Saturday, 12 February 2022 03:00 (two years ago) link

he was exactly what i hoped! just knows how to play. i know there are ppl who only look at 3-pt % when they decide who is good but he's much, much, much more dynamic than the current version of josh richardson.

call all destroyer, Saturday, 12 February 2022 03:00 (two years ago) link

that was a fun game to watch. i only caught the 2nd half but the celtics played some absolutely hellacious defense, just took the nuggets out of everything they were trying to do

call all destroyer, Saturday, 12 February 2022 03:01 (two years ago) link

aside from 11 pritchard minutes they didnt put anyone out there whos not a plus defender

lag∞n, Saturday, 12 February 2022 03:03 (two years ago) link

rob did a really nice job on jokic down the stretch too

lag∞n, Saturday, 12 February 2022 03:03 (two years ago) link

he hadnt been guarding him all game and they usually use him as a roamer but he was Ding the mvp up!

lag∞n, Saturday, 12 February 2022 03:04 (two years ago) link

yup, he stoned jokic in the post a couple times and taking away that offensive dimension was a big deal. left jokic to either try 3s or distribute to guys who were getting swallowed up by marcus and tatum etc.

call all destroyer, Saturday, 12 February 2022 03:06 (two years ago) link

omg, tatum just dropped in on scal interviewing derrick white.

scal: did you advocate for him because you were both on the 2019 fiba team?

tatum: naw, it's because we're both light-skinned ::walks away::

i don't think nbc sports boston was prepared for that

that’s good

Clay, Saturday, 12 February 2022 03:58 (two years ago) link

feels like they're just figuring out how deadly rob is as a lob threat. probably a product of him being able to play more minutes. this has been a happy time for rob fans (aka all good and decent people)

call all destroyer, Saturday, 12 February 2022 03:59 (two years ago) link

conspiracy against marcus

Marcus Smart thought they were gonna give him a tech when he hit Facu in the face (they didn't): "They try to put a reputation on me. They try to use things on you that way to punish you, to justify things."

finally watching this now

derek white played out of his mind for awhile there

grant williams starting to look out of his depth on this team? not a bad rebounder i guess

Tracer Hand, Saturday, 12 February 2022 18:24 (two years ago) link

and solid defense.. i mean i guess that’s why he’s there p much

Tracer Hand, Saturday, 12 February 2022 18:26 (two years ago) link

lol now he’s knocking down threes i take it all back

Tracer Hand, Saturday, 12 February 2022 18:28 (two years ago) link

hes a bad rebounder tbh but yeah good D and is hitting 3s like crazy, a 3 and D guy more or less also a smart player i like him! hes gone from being borderline unplayable to a solid bench guy this year not bad

lag∞n, Saturday, 12 February 2022 18:30 (two years ago) link

which is pretty huge for the team since they needed him to do that

lag∞n, Saturday, 12 February 2022 18:40 (two years ago) link

kevin how was the big game? was the garden rocking and rolling

lag∞n, Saturday, 12 February 2022 18:40 (two years ago) link

tatum’s shot really not there for long stretches of this game

smart playing as well as i’ve ever seen him

Tracer Hand, Saturday, 12 February 2022 19:03 (two years ago) link

yeah smarts been on a tear since he got back from injury, and yeah tatums shot has been bad all year who knows whats going on there but i hope it stops, tatum and brown both still not totally comfortable with the more team oriented way the celtics are trying to play offense but it does seem to be getting better theyre making faster reads moving the ball more but still struggling with how to find their shots within that style, they have some bad habits to overcome with ball stopping but seem to be giving it their best try, if they could get better at moving off ball that would be nice

lag∞n, Saturday, 12 February 2022 19:22 (two years ago) link

lol the foul situation at the end is nuts. you’re calling nothing on smart but facu’s foul was even less detectable

and smart had even more egregious flops in this game alone

― lag∞n, Saturday, February 12, 2022 1:40 PM (one hour ago) bookmarkflaglink

sighhh it was a good time but beating the MVP with me in attendance was not very nice

auld gang syne (k3vin k.), Saturday, 12 February 2022 19:52 (two years ago) link

joker was killing em in the 1st half but i think their pressure D wore him down by the end there they made him work

lag∞n, Saturday, 12 February 2022 19:55 (two years ago) link

when he sat in the 3rd i was like ok they have to win these jokerless minutes bigtime then they didnt and i was like oh no but they ended up pulling it off anyway, for a team that has had so many late game collapses this year it was cool to see them not only not collapse but step up

lag∞n, Saturday, 12 February 2022 20:00 (two years ago) link

of course those collapses had a lot to do with personnel and theyre healthy now have new guys different rotations and so forth, they literally cant play the smart shroder backcourt anymore

lag∞n, Saturday, 12 February 2022 20:01 (two years ago) link

lol the foul situation at the end is nuts. you’re calling nothing on smart but facu’s foul was even less detectable

― Tracer Hand, Saturday, February 12, 2022 2:43 PM (twenty-four minutes ago) bookmarkflaglink

lol that shit was funny, zach zarba "its nothing", salute

lag∞n, Saturday, 12 February 2022 20:08 (two years ago) link

if i had to guess at the reasoning its that facu got all up in his space fouled him and then marcus just pushed to get him off, overall i like the call no need to issue a tech in crunch time of a close game for something so minor

lag∞n, Saturday, 12 February 2022 20:10 (two years ago) link

maybe in the playoffs there’s no call at all

sorry for your L kev (not sorry), looks like it was a fun game to be at anyway
