tatum’s shot really not there for long stretches of this game

smart playing as well as i’ve ever seen him

Tracer Hand, Saturday, 12 February 2022 19:03 (two years ago) link

yeah smarts been on a tear since he got back from injury, and yeah tatums shot has been bad all year who knows whats going on there but i hope it stops, tatum and brown both still not totally comfortable with the more team oriented way the celtics are trying to play offense but it does seem to be getting better theyre making faster reads moving the ball more but still struggling with how to find their shots within that style, they have some bad habits to overcome with ball stopping but seem to be giving it their best try, if they could get better at moving off ball that would be nice

lag∞n, Saturday, 12 February 2022 19:22 (two years ago) link

lol the foul situation at the end is nuts. you’re calling nothing on smart but facu’s foul was even less detectable

and smart had even more egregious flops in this game alone

Tracer Hand, Saturday, 12 February 2022 19:43 (two years ago) link

kevin how was the big game? was the garden rocking and rolling

― lag∞n, Saturday, February 12, 2022 1:40 PM (one hour ago) bookmarkflaglink

sighhh it was a good time but beating the MVP with me in attendance was not very nice

auld gang syne (k3vin k.), Saturday, 12 February 2022 19:52 (two years ago) link

joker was killing em in the 1st half but i think their pressure D wore him down by the end there they made him work

lag∞n, Saturday, 12 February 2022 19:55 (two years ago) link

when he sat in the 3rd i was like ok they have to win these jokerless minutes bigtime then they didnt and i was like oh no but they ended up pulling it off anyway, for a team that has had so many late game collapses this year it was cool to see them not only not collapse but step up

lag∞n, Saturday, 12 February 2022 20:00 (two years ago) link

of course those collapses had a lot to do with personnel and theyre healthy now have new guys different rotations and so forth, they literally cant play the smart shroder backcourt anymore

lag∞n, Saturday, 12 February 2022 20:01 (two years ago) link

lol that shit was funny, zach zarba "its nothing", salute

lag∞n, Saturday, 12 February 2022 20:08 (two years ago) link

if i had to guess at the reasoning its that facu got all up in his space fouled him and then marcus just pushed to get him off, overall i like the call no need to issue a tech in crunch time of a close game for something so minor

lag∞n, Saturday, 12 February 2022 20:10 (two years ago) link

maybe in the playoffs there’s no call at all

sorry for your L kev (not sorry), looks like it was a fun game to be at anyway

theis trade still not final...

lag∞n, Sunday, 13 February 2022 19:03 (two years ago) link

big rob with his third major impact double double in a row, he's a real problem now

i cannot help if you made yourself not funny (forksclovetofu), Monday, 14 February 2022 06:14 (two years ago) link

another streaky night from tatum and brown looked off. what was more concerning was a weird run in i think the early 4th quarter when every time down the floor resulted in sort of desperate iso moves, not just brown but even white were just trying to like... i dunno post up and go 1-on-5 against the entire hawks defense, trying to draw fouls, putting up ugly floaters? i mean cmon that's marcus smart's job

was thrilling to see tatum finally heat up and pritchard's defense was actually pretty good for most of his minutes

and yeah i've fallen in love with grant williams again

Tracer Hand, Monday, 14 February 2022 09:50 (two years ago) link

celtics offense continues to mystify

lag∞n, Monday, 14 February 2022 18:24 (two years ago) link

i think tatum has the slowest release on a three i’ve ever seen. it’s like he’s cranking up the arm of a crane. creeeeeeeak

Tracer Hand, Monday, 14 February 2022 18:49 (two years ago) link

his shot is idk what youd call it really long like it starts with a super low dip then goes into a two motion with a really high release, he also often especially when open pauses on the dip to gather himself doesnt seem ideal tbh kinda crazy he shoots as well as he does

lag∞n, Monday, 14 February 2022 19:20 (two years ago) link

or at least has shot as well as he has until this season lol

lag∞n, Monday, 14 February 2022 19:22 (two years ago) link

tatum is a great example of how spot up 3-pt shooting and off the dribble 3-pt shooting are completely different skills for a lot of guys, like you'd never say someone who gets off as many stepbacks as he does has a "slow release," but then yeah if you hit him for an open spot up he looks a million times worse than guys who can just catch it in the pocket and launch.

call all destroyer, Monday, 14 February 2022 19:27 (two years ago) link

yeah i feel like tatum's shot is really built around it not being blockable by the man guarding him, like it's a very one on one oriented motion. so he has this elongated way of raising it up really high and getting it off over a contesting hand & when there's no one in front of him it all looks kinda unnecessary

J0rdan S., Monday, 14 February 2022 19:35 (two years ago) link

i thought that the white-smart-brown-tatum + whoever mix looked kinda nice for the c's yesterday. if white or smart was at all a reliable three point shooter they'd really have something there. but they have nice flexibility off that 4, they can play big or small depending on what makes sense. i could see the argument against the trade insofar as they will give up a decent-ish pick to upgrade a team that still prob has a low ceiling this year but i thought their main 4 looked noticeably better yesterday in terms of fit and style than what they had w/ schroeder. i think it speaks well of brad's GMing just in terms of identifying a player on a different team that works off his core guys even if the price in terms of assets & contracts might've been a tad high

J0rdan S., Monday, 14 February 2022 19:36 (two years ago) link

yeah getting white was a home run imo insofar as getting a non star can be a home run, it was a double maybe

lag∞n, Monday, 14 February 2022 19:41 (two years ago) link

idk how far the celtics can go this year but having a great d def gives them a chance to make a run especially considering no one in the east is looking dominant but getting white was for sure more of a long term move

lag∞n, Monday, 14 February 2022 19:45 (two years ago) link

the 538 projections have them at 3rd-best chances to win the championship, which is.....really something.

i was fairly surprised by some of the lukewarm response i saw to the white trade given that to me he's a slam-dunk obvious fit with this group for the next three years.

call all destroyer, Monday, 14 February 2022 20:09 (two years ago) link

i do wonder if the point differential based systems might be a bit off on them bcuz they beat the no longer existent kings team by 50 points, the g league nets team by 30 points, the heat the game after they went to 3 OTs and sat butler by 30. good wins & i'm sure there's some garbage time filtering happening w/ some of the more advanced systems but it feels like their point differential is a bit goosed at the moment

J0rdan S., Monday, 14 February 2022 20:21 (two years ago) link

oh 100% that's the case.

call all destroyer, Monday, 14 February 2022 20:23 (two years ago) link

i mean blow outs are good its a thing that good teams do but it does seem like one could and maybe some do add a mechanism to their model to determine if a team has all their guys or not for a game cause 538 prob thinks the celtics blew out the good heat and nets

lag∞n, Tuesday, 15 February 2022 01:51 (two years ago) link

although maybe at this point the nets are not considered good anymore lol

lag∞n, Tuesday, 15 February 2022 01:52 (two years ago) link

i contend that the energy had already shifted

Celtics:

— 8 straight wins
— 7-0 since Jaylen tweeted "the energy is about to shift"
— 6th in the East
— 12-1 in the last 13 games with Smart
— 2nd in defensive rating this season
— 1st in NetRtg and DRtg in 2022

Hottest team right now. pic.twitter.com/LB656aUMrX

theis def overpaid lol, not sure about trading for him cause of that, tho we do love theis dont we folks

Daniel Theis said he didn’t hold a grudge against the Celtics trading him because he understood it was a business decision to duck the luxury tax.

“Let’s say it kinda worked out.”

This is the third time in the last 11 games that Tatum and Brown have been either tied with or beating the other team by themselves at halftime.

i don’t know that i’ve ever seen them move the ball like this. open looks absolutely everywhere.

i’m worried about marcus’ ankle.

Tracer Hand, Wednesday, 16 February 2022 17:08 (two years ago) link

yeah hopefully its not some really bad sprain and hes just out a week or two most of which is eaten up by the all star break

lag∞n, Wednesday, 16 February 2022 17:10 (two years ago) link

ball movement has been great stunning really everything i could hope for love when the ball just zips all over the place best kind of offense

lag∞n, Wednesday, 16 February 2022 17:31 (two years ago) link

Totally, all the more satisfying because they really haven’t been great at that in the Tatum era. Really speaks to the differences between guys like Schroder and White that Don’t Show Up In The Box Score

Lavator Shemmelpennick, Wednesday, 16 February 2022 18:03 (two years ago) link

dennis schroder god bless him is an extremely limited basketball player

lag∞n, Wednesday, 16 February 2022 18:06 (two years ago) link

and yeah white is a really good ball mover noticed a bunch of plays where hes jumped in the air for a catch and passed it before he hit the ground, caught where he easily couldve taken a dribble or two but just swung it right away etc

lag∞n, Wednesday, 16 February 2022 18:10 (two years ago) link

marcus listed as doubtful instead of out could be a good sign

Marcus Smart doubtful for Wednesday’s game against Pistons, but that’s a small positive https://t.co/5l034R6Cju

it's worth remembering that marcus's injuries always look 75% worse than they are. but still glad this is just a sprain.

it's the night after the all-star break and the red-hot boston celtics play the nets. the boston globe do not have a single preview article up on their website, interesting move
