UMMMMMMM

Celtics confirm Woj report that Rob Williams is expected to return in 4-6 weeks after having a partial left knee meniscectomy in Boston today.

lag∞n, Wednesday, 30 March 2022 14:45 (two years ago) link

that's massively risky but i guess it depends on how the playoffs is going

call all destroyer, Wednesday, 30 March 2022 15:15 (two years ago) link

its jus a very small tear nbd its fine

lag∞n, Wednesday, 30 March 2022 15:37 (two years ago) link

very curious to find out if they did one of the procedures that gets you back quicker but could lead to issues down the line or if they just got lucky with the severity of the tear

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 30 March 2022 15:39 (two years ago) link

A meniscectomy (I've had one) is where they cut the torn part off of the rest of the meniscus. It's quicker healing, but you lose part of the meniscus. A meniscus repair is where they sow the torn part back to the meniscus, which preserves the meniscus, but is a much longer recovery time. I'm fairly certain nearly all athletes opt for the former, but I could be wrong.

reassessing life after bookmarking a Will Smith thread (PBKR), Wednesday, 30 March 2022 15:49 (two years ago) link

they usually assess based on the severity of the injury. i don't think doing the trim necessarily leads to issues down the road, but my concerns are more around rob being a slow healer and relying so much on leaping ability.

call all destroyer, Wednesday, 30 March 2022 15:52 (two years ago) link

Re: Robert Williams, I'm always skeptical of any meniscus surgery timeline shorter than 8 weeks. And if he does come back faster, we've seen guys like Metta World Peace, Mo Harkless, and Brandon Roy who pushed back for the playoffs have major issues going forward.

— Nate Duncan (@NateDuncanNBA) March 30, 2022

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 30 March 2022 17:56 (two years ago) link

Brandon Roy had much deeper knee issues than a slight meniscus tear.

not gonna matter much if the rest of the team cant stay in shape

ten year old study on the famous meniscus

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-nba-players-meniscus/most-nba-players-recover-from-meniscus-tears-idUSTRE7BF23P20111216

While one in five of the athletes never returned to play another NBA game after the injury, those that did return generally got back to their pre-injury playing level. That was based on a calculation that weighed athletes’ points, rebounds, fouls and turnovers in the seasons right before and after the injury.

The athletes missed about six weeks worth of practice and games before returning to play, on average.

from the Athletic, Ime pinpoints the vibe shift:

If you had to pinpoint a moment where it started turning around and why, what would that be?

Coming off the West Coast trip, we had a hard session where I went at them pretty hard.

Where were you? Paint that picture for me a little bit.

Film session (in Boston), back off the Utah, Portland, Clippers, Lakers, Phoenix trip. We didn’t have a good trip, but it was more so all the things that we had built to that point. Whether we were losing some big leads, playing a certain way. And we didn’t (play well on) that trip. So I hit them with a 75 clip film session — 75 different clips.

Plays you didn’t like?

Yeah, whole categories of (them) not having physicality, not moving the ball. Ran the whole gamut, and we hollered at them.

rob just got the 2nd annual tommy award congrats

marcus out there making plays as per usual

lag∞n, Thursday, 31 March 2022 00:37 (two years ago) link

celtics defense is so good that sometimes teams mess up easy shots just from being so generally pressed

lag∞n, Thursday, 31 March 2022 00:42 (two years ago) link

Jayson Tatum complains to the refs for 5 minutes straight then looks completely aghast when he gets the tech. Deuce is on the sidelines throwing up thumbs down lol

sloppy half from the celtics feels like they should be up seven instead theyre down one which is an eight point swing

marcus has a number of sick passes tonight

Grant Williams stepped on someone's foot standing in front of Indiana's bench and went down for a bit before slowly walking back to Boston's bench. He's still stretching his left foot/ankle out now but appears he'll stay in the game.

that dudes can legally stand around out of bounds inches from the court is insane, why do we not have a DMZ area of some kind?

call all destroyer, Saturday, 2 April 2022 01:50 (two years ago) link

ideal scenario celtics win out including game at bucks philly wins out and nets stay in the bottom part of the play in

https://i.imgur.com/msYmsD6.png

lag∞n, Tuesday, 5 April 2022 15:50 (two years ago) link

leaving heat at 1 celtics at 2 philly at 3 bucks at 4 and nets at 8, biggest obstacle is celtics playing in milwaukee on the second night of a back to back

lag∞n, Tuesday, 5 April 2022 15:52 (two years ago) link

i mean i guess the ideal would be celtics at 1 and everything lined up perfectly but thats much less likely

lag∞n, Tuesday, 5 April 2022 16:30 (two years ago) link

Update on this: confirmed with league it’s record vs. all playoff eligible teams, so the top 10.

Boston wins that tiebreaker.

So either Boston wins tomorrow (clinched head to head tiebreaker) or Milwaukee wins, the two tie for conf rec, and Boston wins 5th tiebreaker. https://t.co/5wmA3lFoTv

whenever hes talking about an upcoming game vs the nets theres some version of "kyrie may or may not play"

Another day, another 20+ pt win over a playoff team for the Celtics of Boston, Massachusetts, USA

Lavator Shemmelpennick, Thursday, 7 April 2022 02:24 (two years ago) link

pretty cool

lag∞n, Thursday, 7 April 2022 02:39 (two years ago) link

Al Horford didn’t commit to playing tomorrow. Said he’ll see how his body feels. Said the Celtics need to make sure their healthy as they can be for the playoffs.

— Jay King (@ByJayKing) April 7, 2022

wonder if theyre going t throw the next two games to avoid the nets

lag∞n, Thursday, 7 April 2022 02:50 (two years ago) link

they shd rest up, big day in the morning, no draft implications either bc they traded that pick

class project pat (m bison), Thursday, 7 April 2022 02:51 (two years ago) link

lol

lag∞n, Thursday, 7 April 2022 02:52 (two years ago) link

funny thing is resting for the playoffs doesnt really make sense these days since theres time off while the play in happens, tho i guess resting on a back to back is still reasonable

lag∞n, Thursday, 7 April 2022 03:01 (two years ago) link

kinda think any of the heat bucks celtics would take the nets without too much trouble anyway, not sure about the sixers, but maybe you just dont want to risk kd detonating on you

lag∞n, Thursday, 7 April 2022 03:03 (two years ago) link

pretty much, especially given that the other options aren't particularly scary at the moment. but i am a firm believer that the bad karma of trying to manipulate seedings usually comes back around to bite you

Lavator Shemmelpennick, Thursday, 7 April 2022 13:03 (two years ago) link

will be funny if both the celtics and bucks try throw tonights game

lag∞n, Thursday, 7 April 2022 13:40 (two years ago) link

celtics have moved up to contender status this year you could say theyre the new kids on the block

Double Jayson Tatum at your own risk now. This is a quick read to get the ball moving. Derrick White is swinging the ball to Jaylen Brown almost before he even catches it. The ball doesn't stick very often with Boston now. White's 0.5 ability has been exactly what they needed. pic.twitter.com/aOUFyhjuhS

nice

two seasons ago tatum had 24 hockey assists. last year he had 47. right now he's at 69 (and counting). left-handed no-look bounce passes are now commonplace: https://t.co/KhT9RZZ5fj pic.twitter.com/00oZAaNIOm

yessss

his passing has improved significantly anyway but i feel like how much trust there is right now is the biggest ingredient. such an unselfish team

Lavator Shemmelpennick, Thursday, 7 April 2022 14:58 (two years ago) link

the ball is just zipping around, best kind of offense

lag∞n, Thursday, 7 April 2022 15:00 (two years ago) link

some more great clips in that article, lotta passes that are not necessarily spectacular on their face but he's just reading the floor really well, sucking the defense to himself without even having to drive at all and consistently getting it to the right guy

Lavator Shemmelpennick, Thursday, 7 April 2022 15:06 (two years ago) link

havent dug into the article yet but one thing this year thats new is hes making reads earlier often moving the ball before the double gets there which allows him to get a clean pass off and basically puts the defense in terminal rotation

lag∞n, Thursday, 7 April 2022 15:13 (two years ago) link
