from todays big athletic piece on udoka
As much as he is influenced by Popovich, Udoka often recites former Utah coach Jerry Sloan, going as far as to implement one of his sayings into the nightly scouting reports.
“One thing Jerry used to say that I use with the guys is ‘tuxedo guys’ … that’s a kind way of saying a guy is soft,” Udoka said. “On every scouting report, we have ‘tuxedo guys’ and the whole team has kind of run with it. Jerry would say certain guys like to ‘play in their tuxedo’ — you know, have a nice, easy game, don’t touch them, how’s your family? … Nah. We’re not about that.”
lmao celtics are calling players soft on their scouting report i simply must know who the tuxedo guys are

jaylen refusing in a weird way to talk about anything
Asked about his vaccination status, Jaylen Brown pointed out he missed the playoffs last year. He said he’s “ready to play against anybody” in the playoffs, implying he would be able to play in Toronto. But he said he won’t comment on his vaccination status or anyone else’s.— Jay King (@ByJayKing) April 3, 2022
Jaylen Brown declined to say if he is practicing Ramadan: "Ramadan is a special time, definitely in relationship with God and relationship with adversity, persevering through distraction and any negativity...Ramadan is something special, that saved my life in many ways."— Jared Weiss (@JaredWeissNBA) April 14, 2022
― lag∞n, Thursday, 14 April 2022 18:12 (two years ago) link
i thought his reason for being cagey about vaccination was his position in the players union or some such nonsense. also someone tell jared you don't "practice ramadan"
― call all destroyer, Thursday, 14 April 2022 18:14 (two years ago) link
its not the typical terminology but in my muslim opinion ramadan can be considered a religious practice
― lag∞n, Thursday, 14 April 2022 18:23 (two years ago) link
Ramadan is something special, that saved my life in many ways.
I think he answered the Ramadan question, but indirectly. His refusal regarding his vaccination status was a definite stonewall, but we'll be able to draw an accurate conclusion when the series moves to Toronto.

imo he was stronger re being vaxxed he only confirmed that hes practiced ramadan before whatever that means

Auspicious beginning to the offs with Tatum's first career buzzer beater. Final possession was 12 seconds - saw in the AP write-up that all 5 Celtics on the floor touched the ball. Pretty sweet.

and all five nets with their backs to the celtics' #1 option with 3.3 seconds left in a one-point game. not calling that timeout was a great call.

marcus' decision making this year has taken a quantum leap forward. it doesn't exactly feel like he's seeing and doing things he couldn't before, so much as he's finally learned when to check his irrational confidence and let the game come to him

good stuff
With the Celtics facing a five-point deficit early in the fourth quarter Wednesday night, Udoka dialed up likely the most significant in-game adjustment of his young coaching career, given the circumstances. Partly to change Boston’s spacing, he called on a lineup full of his team’s best shooters: Payton Pritchard, Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, Grant Williams and Al Horford. The group had only played six minutes together during the regular season. It did not include either Marcus Smart or Derrick White. Still, Udoka felt comfortable turning to the unit with a playoff game on the line. He had a vision.
Over the next several minutes, the Celtics ran some variation of the same look on almost every possession. They stationed Horford and Williams in the two corners, knowing the Nets would not want to leave either of them alone. The placement of the two Boston big men dragged their defenders, usually Kevin Durant and either Andre Drummond or Nicolas Claxton, out of the paint. By taking the Nets’ two longest players away from the action, the Celtics also took advantage of Brooklyn’s lack of defensive depth. The Nets simply don’t have much perimeter size or length. Udoka’s decision left his own team’s three best shooters — Tatum, Brown and Pritchard — essentially playing three-on-three against small defenders in space.
The strategy set up Boston’s best offensive stretch of the game, a string of five straight scores that flipped a five-point deficit into a 99-94 lead.
