apologies in advance if it ends up he did some shady shit, other than just cheating on his wife, tho who know what their arrangement is

lag∞n, Thursday, 22 September 2022 18:02 (two years ago) link

so there is further intel that a woman listed in the celtics staff directory deleted all her socials this morning, that seems to be an obvious sign--she does not appear to have a relationship to pagliuca so that may have been a false rumor.

i think there has to be something else going on here that has them landing on this punishment, but ultimately i stand by my opinion that having a workplace fling is one of the lamest and most selfish things you can do, they always get exposed and they always fuck things up for everyone else. if part of ime's appeal was that he was this dude who commanded respect and could yell at jaylen brown or whatever than yeah, just fire him.

call all destroyer, Thursday, 22 September 2022 18:04 (two years ago) link

i dont think they are officially married but been together for like a decade with a kid together.

Spottie, Thursday, 22 September 2022 18:05 (two years ago) link

I don’t really have a personal moral issue with workplace flings or whatever, people are gonna fuck who they want and it’s impossible to stop them, but the rules are in place for a reason: I’m assuming this relationship ended and she now has to continue to work under him, which obviously being exes would create an inherently inhospitable work environment. ime knew the rules and broke them (assuming this story is true). a year does seem like a lot though

k3vin k., Thursday, 22 September 2022 18:13 (two years ago) link

the workplace affair yeah its lame and gross youre exposing people who are just trying to get through their day in their cubicles to your private horn levels, but on the other hand people just wanna get wet thats human nature and i think its forgivable, its certainly not as bad as say taking healthy companies and loading them up with unsustainable debt so you can get money to buy a basketball team

if they feel like this behavior has damaged udokas credibility with the team then fine let him go, but if its just some corporate hr stories theyre telling themselves about being upstanding citizens creating the right culture or whatever i could do without it

lag∞n, Thursday, 22 September 2022 18:14 (two years ago) link

seems like a pretty good chance that if they do give him a year suspension he just walks

lag∞n, Thursday, 22 September 2022 18:17 (two years ago) link

yeah I mean why would you want to go back after that

k3vin k., Thursday, 22 September 2022 18:19 (two years ago) link

yeah if there was actual wrongdoing then let him go if its just two adults operating on a harmonious wavelength then give him five games and consider minding your own business next time

i think given the struggles women have breaking into male dominated sports organizations you really can’t have the coach of the team having affairs w/ ppl who he works with. it would poison the well for every woman in the celtics organization if they were just like “ah well it was consensual, none of our business. take a week off.” if you’re a woman and you don’t want to fuck the coach, how do you feel going to work around him every day knowing that he can attempt to initiate a consensual relationship with you bcuz his punishment is just a slap on the wrist? or if you work closely with him are ppl gonna whisper behind your back that you must be fucking him. we already have national reporters having to come out and say that some random woman on the staff nobody had ever heard of prior to 12 hours ago was not involved bcuz ppl went digging into the celtics online staff directory to try and uncover the “culprit” and started plastering her photo all over twitter. cad mentions a woman who deleted all her socials. sounds like a really shitty time to be a woman working for the celtics right now in any capacity close to the team. i don’t know what the appropriate punishment is, it’s ultimately arbitrary, but i get why the celtics are taking it this seriously (also for legal reasons i’m sure) and ime should thank his lucky stars he is apparently keeping his job

J0rdan S., Thursday, 22 September 2022 18:20 (two years ago) link

yeah those are reasonable points and obvs theres a lot we dont know about their working relationship like was she his subordinate and so forth, i dont think five games and being publicly reprimand is exactly a slap on the wrist, tens games idk, is one mans inability to keep it in his pants really creating this black air is responsible for amateur internet sleuthing and whatnot

lag∞n, Thursday, 22 September 2022 18:27 (two years ago) link

if you have a company where people whisper that every woman might be fuckin the coach you may have bigger problems that may resist corporate legislation

lag∞n, Thursday, 22 September 2022 18:32 (two years ago) link

is one mans inability to keep it in his pants really creating this black air is responsible for amateur internet sleuthing and whatnot

well, yes. if ime hadn’t had an affair no one would be posting photos of random celtics women staffers on twitter speculating if they were the ones who had an affair with ime. that one seems pretty A->B to me.

i guess the celtics could have suspended him for “conduct detrimental to the team” or something but there’s no way they would have been able to keep the reason under wraps. there’s a concerted effort to make sports orgs more equitable and habitable places for women & if the celtics had tried to cover this up it wouldn’t have ended well for them. this all stems from decisions ime made & again he’s lucky they’re willing to stick this out with him and aren’t just kicking him to the curb.

J0rdan S., Thursday, 22 September 2022 18:35 (two years ago) link

lol yeah those corporate raiders are really doing him a favor god bless them

lag∞n, Thursday, 22 September 2022 18:37 (two years ago) link

i mean there may be some not entirely healthy societal forces at play here that were not caused by ime udoka idk

lag∞n, Thursday, 22 September 2022 18:38 (two years ago) link

think they should just let him go tbh if the punishment is gonna be this severe anyway

ciderpress, Thursday, 22 September 2022 18:40 (two years ago) link

the person who deleted her socials did appear to work on the basketball ops side--would be tough to make the case that the head coach isn't her superior

call all destroyer, Thursday, 22 September 2022 18:40 (two years ago) link

theyre cld be floating a year to make a show of how seriously theyre taking this then give him 20 games or something

lag∞n, Thursday, 22 September 2022 18:42 (two years ago) link

gerson rosas lost his job for doing this a year ago & nobody batted an eye, prob cuz he sucked at being a GM. if ime was steve clifford ppl would find it laughable that a team would be willing to suspend him for a year and take all the PR blowback associated with this whole mess in order to stick by him. he’s absolutely fortunate they aren’t canning him

J0rdan S., Thursday, 22 September 2022 18:43 (two years ago) link

you should write him an email

lag∞n, Thursday, 22 September 2022 18:45 (two years ago) link

?? it’s ok ime will survive this horrible injustice of not being able to coach basketball for one year after having sex with a coworker. close your eyes and take deep breaths. picture jimmy butler’s three clanging off the rim

J0rdan S., Thursday, 22 September 2022 18:48 (two years ago) link

dont think im the one who needs to take deep breaths here

lag∞n, Thursday, 22 September 2022 18:50 (two years ago) link

see i actually think it’s the opposite. they saw what happened with the league and sarver. i think they leaked all this out to see if there would be a huge public backlash to them suspending him but not firing him, which it seems like there isn’t. but i don’t think they can rewind it back any further than a year long suspension if that’s what they put out there initially

J0rdan S., Thursday, 22 September 2022 18:51 (two years ago) link

dont think im the one who needs to take deep breaths here

i have no idea what the appropriate punishment is & i agree there’s no grave moral injustice in a consensual office affair, if it was fully consensual and non-coercive. i just think you’re really naive if you don’t understand why this is playing out in this fashion

J0rdan S., Thursday, 22 September 2022 18:53 (two years ago) link

if ime was steve clifford ppl would find it laughable that a team would be willing to suspend him for a year and take all the PR blowback associated with this whole mess in order to stick by him

not sure if this was your point but it doesn't seem to me like a grave injustice that one's actual job performance should factor into the equation when determining how many misdeeds your employer is willing to put up with/stand by you while you get your shit together

too much speculation in this thread without knowing the deets

lag∞n, Thursday, 22 September 2022 18:59 (two years ago) link

if they want to fire him for pr reasons fine go with god wyc grousbeck your name is literally pronounced wick you made your money working with mitt romney it is what it is, but i should not be made to care about their corporate human resources polices thats none of my business, but they will probably suspend him for one year because thats the stupidest possible outcome

well, a lot of ppl would disagree with the idea that if you’re good enough at your job you should have more license to disrupt the workplace than ppl who are less good at their jobs. that certainly *is* the way the world works, but you could easily make the argument that it shouldn’t be how the world works. one could point to any number of tyrannical workplaces ran by very successful ppl to explain how the idea that “better” employees should get more leeway can be a disastrously slippery slope. you could find plenty of ppl with firsthand experience who would actually describe such a thing as a “grave injustice.” no idea how much any of this framework applies in this situation, but just speaking generally. and yes ime should consider himself lucky that his bosses perceive him to be a good enough coach that he is keeping his job in this instance

Thinking about this more and he absolutely would be fired if he hadn't just come off a Finals appearance, which makes the entire thing feel a little more icky/crass.

my hot take is that corporate HR policies are actually good

call all destroyer, Thursday, 22 September 2022 19:27 (two years ago) link

lol thats clearly not a defensible statement

lag∞n, Thursday, 22 September 2022 19:29 (two years ago) link

i mean if you want to pick some out that you like thats fine

lag∞n, Thursday, 22 September 2022 19:30 (two years ago) link

that’s a complicated one lol… corporate HR people work on behalf of satan, generally, or may actually be satan himself in some instances. i would say that workplace relationships involving subordinates are frowned upon for a good reason on a macro level.

it’s also prob not a coincidence that ppl like jeff zucker and gerson rosas who get pushed out of their orgs nominally for having workplace affairs also seem to be running dysfunctional workplaces in general

J0rdan S., Thursday, 22 September 2022 19:53 (two years ago) link

well yeah actual implementation is a different story but policy is useful as a mechanism for helping to ensure that the work environment doesn't backslide to 1963 due to offensive, harassing, or coercive behavior

call all destroyer, Thursday, 22 September 2022 19:59 (two years ago) link

i think we can all generally support anti mad men office policies, but corporate hr also includes rules like getting a formal warning for using the bathroom without management approval

A 2022 workplace without such policies would be a cesspool.

idk about all that, maybe in finance

lag∞n, Thursday, 22 September 2022 20:32 (two years ago) link

ultimately the rules are designed to protect the corporations not the humans, which ends up showing in a lot of their flaws

lag∞n, Thursday, 22 September 2022 20:34 (two years ago) link

and obviously the power dynamics that allow people to harm others in those situations are created and fostered by the corporations

lag∞n, Thursday, 22 September 2022 20:37 (two years ago) link

i mean robert sarver is 60 years old so its prob fair to assume he broke hr rules for decades without censure, because they werent for him
