the Cs could fire him any time, if they don't mind paying out on his contract. if they need to fire him 'for cause' and back out of the contract, they need to get all their facts lined up in case udoka sues.

for the same reasons that have been true for the past week, they can't disclose what happened and are trying to let things cool down and come to a financial settlement before making it permanent.

the woj coverage of this story is so poisoned at this point, like obviously they had to give him something negative about ime for credability purposes but in no way is this about a "crude remark"

idk i mean sports franchises fire coaches with 3+ years left on the contract all the time, im not sure how this is different. the celtics could afford to pay him whatever he’s owed so everyone can be done with this. this whole protracted news cycle to save a few million dollars firing him “for cause” feels cheapskatey if that’s really what’s going on

this is interesting, obv it's hard to look back at last season now with all this new info but i wonder if his relationship with the players was always more respectful co-workers than someone they had truly bonded with or admired? maybe he just wasn't here long enough to have that kind of impact.

Could be also if he was being that risky about his behavior it was also going around the clubhouse as distracting rumors or maybe even as all but confirmed fact, and I don’t doubt it would have not been viewed as like “wow coach is cool” and more like, this guy’s been telling us to focus on one goal and meanwhile he’s out there creeping on ladies connected to the organization and risking a major scandal while we’re on the brink of something great here. I know it was off-season allegedly but who knows.

yeah that definitely could be the case; nba teams don't seem like very big organizations and my guess would be that keeping secrets is hard

the perfect time for the perfect gesture totally makes sense all around

gotta think this is his last stop. i thought he would have a better post prime arc but the injuries were just too bad i guess. he figured out a passable outside shot and was always a good passer but no moves and being a (bad kind of) tweener on defense makes him unplayable for the most part.

maybe he can soak up some minutes in between injuries or whatever who knows

in theory he does have the body/skillset to be a 12-15 mpg small ball 5. he was the nets best defender on giannis two years ago, but maybe that person is already gone. the nets needed any warm body vs boston and he couldn't get off the bench so it's prob wishful thinking.

giannis cooked him! he gave it a good effort tho

he won't give them anything in the playoffs but if he can soak up some regular season minutes it's a worthwhile signing
