enjoyed this deep dive into jokic, one mind blowing stat is that this year the nuggets have 11 fewer assists per 100 possessions with jokic on the bench, which I guess is the best of all time, other leaders on the list are like peak nash lebron curry etc seasons

I think there’s a reasonable chance that in terms of impact on wins and losses jokic is significantly better than his basic numbers indicate, might be even better than being a 2 time MVP might suggest, just my thoughts

seems like a good deal for the team

on the one hand, dario saric looking cooked is a bad sign

on the other hand, they might have found something with this russ-strawther-pwat-MPJ-gordon lineup

after 3 games, a few things stand out.

1) jokic is still that dude. which is great, because nothing matters if this isn’t the case
2) any hopes that the recent patterns of starter-bench disparity in +/- being reversed are pretty much dead I think. continues to be a huge issue
3) russ is not good. has been obvious to anyone who’s watched basketball over the last 15 years, but there is a tenuously right needle to thread between harnessing his positive attributes (energy, rim pressure, ball handling, solid on-ball defense when he chooses) and the negatives (too many to list). I maintain that it is unworkable and he’s a lost cause on a winning team. but then again I felt the same way about jeff green and he was the 8th man on a title team, so we’ll see.
4) braun is good enough to be the 5th starter. there are some things on offense he can’t do as well as KCP (yet), but he’s just as good defensively imo. and KCP, as much as I love him, was overrated as a nugget from an objective perspective. he got the jokic bump just as braun will. the issue is that moving braun to the starting lineup demands more of the bench (see #2 and #3)

if braun can figure out how to shoot hell be a pretty nice player

the bench looks really dire. russ has to get better than this but it would be deluded to think he's gonna be any sort of consistent net positive. basically need to count on breakout seasons from both strawther and watson, + a good fit showing up on the buyout market or something

they could cut russ and sign lonnie walker
