hes such a weenie

lag∞n, Wednesday, 5 April 2023 01:39 (one year ago) link

he’s lame, devoid of charisma *and* a dick. such a bad combo

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 5 April 2023 01:41 (one year ago) link

he is now criticizing spencer dinwiddie for not going for a lay up down 3 with 8 seconds left and no timeouts

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 5 April 2023 01:46 (one year ago) link

“no shot blocker in there” he says incredulously

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 5 April 2023 01:48 (one year ago) link

ThreeFourTwo Productions has acquired The Dunker's Spot... Happy for them, but ugh have to listen to more gambling add reads.

Jeff, Friday, 7 April 2023 12:51 (one year ago) link

Also hope they can edit the length of their eps down.. last one was 2 hours 40 minutes.

that guy really stinks

J0rdan S., Friday, 14 April 2023 17:07 (one year ago) link

he just seems very pointless. jj would be fine on his own

Spottie, Friday, 14 April 2023 17:08 (one year ago) link

the amount of playoff preview podcast content is overwhelming

J0rdan S., Friday, 14 April 2023 22:52 (one year ago) link

This is the absolute best week of the year to listen to NBA podcasts. I just heard Bill Simmons say that Giannis will become "the best player since LeBron" if he wins a title this year, and then when asked to clarify he said, "Let's say LeBron ... it goes til 2018, right?"

lag∞n, Friday, 14 April 2023 22:54 (one year ago) link

i tend to like the post game pods way more than the prediction stuff.

Spottie, Friday, 14 April 2023 23:40 (one year ago) link

four weeks pass...

still thinking about how last night, as the camera showed tatum & brown embracing, mark jones said “the two Js… smoking on that philly pack tonight.” honestly did not know you could say that on TV

J0rdan S., Friday, 12 May 2023 17:06 (one year ago) link

also after one of tatum’s made threes near the end he said “jayson tatum! not always there when you call but always on time” which actually felt like a correct interpretation of that lyric w/in the context of a star player missing every shot for 3.75 quarters but then draining three threes to ice the game

J0rdan S., Friday, 12 May 2023 17:08 (one year ago) link

classic calls last night

Spottie, Friday, 12 May 2023 17:12 (one year ago) link

lol yeah good stuff

lag∞n, Friday, 12 May 2023 17:20 (one year ago) link

doris on the other hand sometimes she goes so deep into her success wins mindset soliloquies its like are you even watching the game, she said that philly was down 0-2 to start the series twice before jones corrected her, its frustrating cause she knows ball but does so much "this wonderful young man" shit

lag∞n, Friday, 12 May 2023 17:24 (one year ago) link

its funny i saw both celtics and philly fans accusing her of being biased last night, i think cause shes so complimentary when fans hear it for their own team theyre like yes makes sense of course but then with the other team its all why is she in love with them

lag∞n, Friday, 12 May 2023 17:29 (one year ago) link

doris seems more flowery this year than in past years

Spottie, Friday, 12 May 2023 17:37 (one year ago) link

yeah sometimes there’s a paternalism about her but she’ll also call guys out in a real way too, it’s almost a yin/yang of the same emotion, tough love kinda thing. she was right to be genuinely incredulous last night @ embiid & harden kinda giving up on the game. also she went viral for calling out dillon brooks in round 1

when JVG is on a big playoff game & treating it seriously and not doing 80s stand up routines i still think he’s the best we have in terms of breaking down the game in real time, even like during a possession. but doris is up there for me in that regard

J0rdan S., Friday, 12 May 2023 17:44 (one year ago) link

TNT is kinda slipping, their play by play guys are great but reggie and SVG are not amazing. stan is aight but he’s not as good as his brother

J0rdan S., Friday, 12 May 2023 17:44 (one year ago) link

i like jeff’s off the wall shit, his contrary ornery shit

Tracer Hand, Friday, 12 May 2023 17:48 (one year ago) link

hubie is the best as far as analysis, but thats all he does

lag∞n, Friday, 12 May 2023 17:52 (one year ago) link

xp was funny a few games ago where jvg randomly went on a huge rant about load management, i think it was a lakers game and breen was saying something about how it would be good for bron to get more rest for the next game and jvg kept doubling down saying he thought the vets would be better in the next game the more minutes they played, to establish a rhythm or something like that

Lavator Shemmelpennick, Friday, 12 May 2023 17:53 (one year ago) link

it’s impossible for me to separate my feelings about him from the starks/ewing/oakley knicks but i think even without that he’d still be my favorite color guy

Tracer Hand, Friday, 12 May 2023 17:58 (one year ago) link

cant believe these coaches who watched first hand as the spurs built a dynasty on being the first team to do load management and yet they still dont believe it

lag∞n, Friday, 12 May 2023 17:59 (one year ago) link

also after one of tatum’s made threes near the end he said “jayson tatum! not always there when you call but always on time” which actually felt like a correct interpretation of that lyric w/in the context of a star player missing every shot for 3.75 quarters but then draining three threes to ice the game

this was so great, such a weird line to suddenly reference and yet it fit perfectly as you say

call all destroyer, Friday, 12 May 2023 18:16 (one year ago) link

Back when JVG was coaching, I only ever saw him in photos and so I always assumed that his affect was closer to Eeyore than to Jefferino Hot Dog Buddy.

J0rdan S., Friday, 19 May 2023 19:28 (one year ago) link

he’s such a dweeb. I can see all his tweets tho I think?

k3vin k., Friday, 19 May 2023 19:32 (one year ago) link

i had a pleasant run in w/ stan van yesterday. he hopped out of a car outside my office in midtown and i was like “what the…” but there’s a very famous restaurant right next door & it turned out he was looking for that (not an uncommon occurrence). i think he flew down from boston for the night to hang with his wife. he’s lost a lot of weight, he looked good

it was actually at least the third stan van encounter of my life. back in his heat days he didn’t live too far from my parents, his daughter and my brother were in middle school at the same time. he always looked kinda disheveled, it was a bit like running into khalid shield mohammed. he’s looking better these days

J0rdan S., Friday, 19 May 2023 19:38 (one year ago) link

sheikh not shield. my apologies to the big man…

J0rdan S., Friday, 19 May 2023 19:40 (one year ago) link

i’m sure the broadcasting life is a hell of a lot healthier than the coaching life. good to hear tho!

call all destroyer, Friday, 19 May 2023 20:34 (one year ago) link

he’s a keyboard warrior tho glad to hear it’s not taking too much out of him

mannix is getting absolutely cooked for these comments

Sports Illustrated's Chris Mannix talks the Denver Nuggets media gripe.

"they're just not a compelling team to talk about - to write about"

Worth noting that @SIChrisMannix and his cohort are compelled by attention. And financial return. They peddle NBA sugar, not basketball. pic.twitter.com/RSLKMbb2dl

Spottie, Thursday, 25 May 2023 17:58 (one year ago) link

mannix is an idiot but i also can't imagine getting worked up about anything he says in that clip

call all destroyer, Thursday, 25 May 2023 18:28 (one year ago) link

interpreting his comments in the most generous possible light, I get what he’s saying to a degree. so many of these guys are employed not because of their value as analysts but because the players are such willing participants in the drama circus, and jokic just doesn’t participate in any of that stuff off the court. it’s tough for the brand these guys are trying to market

k3vin k., Thursday, 25 May 2023 18:28 (one year ago) link

saw someone earlier tweeting about how basketball is interesting and people who like it should cover it, now i know what that was about lol

lag∞n, Thursday, 25 May 2023 18:29 (one year ago) link

Morant brandishing weapons on Instagram is better basketball news than Jokic breaking a record set by Wilt Chamberlain, apparently.

immodesty blaise (jimbeaux), Thursday, 25 May 2023 18:30 (one year ago) link

I’ve said this before but as a casual at best NFL fan, the level of actual football analysis on mainstream broadcasts is just in another universe compared to the NBA

need to make 2k more about plays

lag∞n, Thursday, 25 May 2023 18:33 (one year ago) link

xp
yes. I realised a few years ago that I would watch the games on TV and feel like I understood broadly what was happening and nothing the commentators said would disabuse me of that notion. then I would go on ilx and realise that I only understood about 30 pc of what I was watching.

oscar bravo, Thursday, 25 May 2023 19:17 (one year ago) link

there is an intellectual component to every football play that doesn’t really exist in other sports. you basically have to understand how/why every single play is working on a base level to even be given the opportunity to step onto an NFL field. and then there’s the fact that QBs are the most famous players & it’s also the most intellectually demanding position so you get lots of ex QB analysts whose brains are specifically trained to break down plays before they even happen. but even the guys at other positions have to understand the game on a crazy level. like find an interview of any random cornerback explaining how his responsibilities on a play completely shift from a, b, c, d options to e, f, g, h options in a heartbeat bcuz a WR simply motioned across the field. NFL football is extraordinarily complicated mentally it’s really nuts

also keep in mind there’s essentially like 30 seconds of dead time after every football play so granular analysis is built into the broadcasts in a way that can’t exist w/ basketball

J0rdan S., Thursday, 25 May 2023 19:35 (one year ago) link

yeah the rhythm of watching football is funny watch a play rewatch it from different angles at different speeds try to understand what happened watch the next play

lag∞n, Thursday, 25 May 2023 19:40 (one year ago) link

Wait 5 mins for the refs to do the same.
