I mean I will buy that some players might be more genetically predisposed to injury than others to a degree, but by far the biggest cause of injury is random bad luck, your foot comes down funny, you get tangled up with another player, etc.

The concern with these 7-footers isn't so much genetics, but instead the simple geometry/math of their height works against them: your weight increases at far faster rate the taller you get, so the amount of stress being put on the legs/feet of someone doing NBA things is probably going to limit their longevity.

Mavericks bet it all on the biggest headcase in the league, miss the playoffs, get to keep a draft pick who will wash out before his rookie contract is over
