if I’m reading this right, the nuggets traded a protected 2029 first round pick and in exchange got…2 firsts and a second?

that is my basic understanding of it

a first and 2 seconds but yeah it doesn't necessarily add up

i guess OKC have too many picks so they're trading down a bit to defer a first round pick? maybe they think they'll be good next year and/or they think the draft pool will suck?

Also a bet that by 2029 the Jokic/Murray team will be on the downside and that pick might be better than their own.

would depend what the protections are on the pick if that's their angle

yeah so okc trades from their glut of current 1sts for a future first that has a chance to be good. denver adds some late 1sts in the near term to have a pipeline of cheap talent to add to the team. with the more restrictive CBA teams like denver need homegrown talent more than ever.

yeah and the word from the cap heads is that teams like the thunder might find themselves in a tough spot with a bunch of potentially good players all needing contracts at once

they already have way too many picks, i saw this with the late ainge celtics, it's very easy to suddenly have too many picks

the new cba sucks. the current one was just starting to work as intended.

xp this was always the weird thing about okc trading for so many picks, whats the point if you never cash them in for a big piece? you cant play 20 guys that you draft in 7 years or w/e

hopefully the spurs dont make the same mistake, they should be trying to trade up into the midfirst round to get another guy to go with wembanyama.

spurs have mostly just been really good drafting and developing, and theyve had some timely lottery luck

after game 7 I’m pretty down on jaylen also he is a bonehead. That trade presumably pushes portland way deep into taxville (assuming they resign jerami grant for a bazillion dollars which they will, unfortunately) and maybe gets them to like 5th in the west, not great!

the whole idea that portland can assemble an insta-winner around dame via trading for an all-star caliber veteran is very far-fetched. they lack too many pieces and the free agent market isn't fluid enough or deep enough for them to pick up a fistful of proven, solid players in one off-season. dame's backed the FO into a corner about making a big acquisition. they should just start shopping dame really hard, see what he could bring, and concentrate on a patient rebuild by developing or reclaiming younger guys.

that is what i have been saying for 2 or 3 seasons now!

i also enjoy saying the famous phrase "reboot with scoot™"

i thought they should have traded cj before they maxed him, but the dame contract seems justified considering he's top level. by contrast moving cj might have allowed them to develop a more balanced roster and have cap space to keep them. it's all coulda shoulda woulda.

sure portlands plan to continue to build around dame is doomed but seeing as theyre gonna do it theyre not gonna get better than jaylen
