that’s a good question. it definitely was fucked up last year but i hadn’t read that it was a longterm issue

i wonder if chris haynes & dame have a shared gmail calendar

ainge was prob just like "free guy" re john collins

lag∞n, Monday, 26 June 2023 18:19 (two years ago)

yeah you’re probably right. they must have exhausted other options for that cap space & decided this was the best move. i just don’t buy the idea that they’ve acquired a versatile frontcourt piece to pair with their two stars or whatever such nonsense

J0rdan S., Monday, 26 June 2023 18:21 (two years ago)

i can't say i buy that either but he's not untalented and i think they may just want to take a shot at rehabbing his value

call all destroyer, Monday, 26 June 2023 18:24 (two years ago)

i thought bey looked good for the hawks last year. this roster construction — two guards, two centers, everyone else — makes a lot more sense, even if the talent itself still doesn’t give me tons of hope that they can be more than first round cannon fodder

his contract isnt like insanely bad either, def a good number to throw in the mix for bigger trades

Spottie, Monday, 26 June 2023 18:27 (two years ago)

the blazers better act conscience-free when the dame trade demand comes.

call all destroyer, Monday, 26 June 2023 18:29 (two years ago)

Remember how often teams have cited the "repeater tax" as the reason they had to cut salary when they weren't even on year 1 of paying the tax? The dreaded "second Apron" is going to justify a lot of cost-cutting moves for teams that were never going that high in the tax anyway.

— Nate Duncan (@NateDuncanNBA) June 26, 2023

J0rdan S., Monday, 26 June 2023 18:30 (two years ago)

it's such a scary apron

ciderpress, Monday, 26 June 2023 18:33 (two years ago)

youre like one apron ok makes sense i think i can deal, but then boom a second one

lag∞n, Monday, 26 June 2023 18:35 (two years ago)

depends on if they want to send dame to where he wants

it helps ease the pain a bit that Miami doesn't play against the blazers in the west. not sure how the heat can match salaries without tossing in end-of-bench players the blazers don't really want. and their picks are consistently in the non-lottery tier.

more difficult than I look (Aimless), Monday, 26 June 2023 18:42 (two years ago)

if this is a bradley beal type situation where he’s like “yeah miami or brooklyn whatever works for you guys” i think dame ends up in brooklyn. but if he says “i want miami” i think they’ll do what he asks

J0rdan S., Monday, 26 June 2023 18:43 (two years ago)

it was entirely predictable but also funny that the two teams who went all in on going big last offseason are now having their summers defined by whether they can trade one of those bigs to balance out their rosters

― J0rdan S., Monday, June 26, 2023 12:10 PM (two hours ago) bookmarkflaglink

wait whos the other team besides min

big apron

Lavator Shemmelpennick, Monday, 26 June 2023 18:47 (two years ago)

owners who dont want to spend a lot

lag∞n, Monday, 26 June 2023 18:47 (two years ago)

owners who dont want to pay tax but also dont want to be the ones blamed for dismantling a good team. now there is a scapegoat (aprons)

ciderpress, Monday, 26 June 2023 18:49 (two years ago)

yeah thats honestly the only subset it helps.

Spottie, Monday, 26 June 2023 18:54 (two years ago)

cool cool cool

i feel like in a month or two i will have read/heard/used the word apron more than in my entire life combined, if i haven't already.

Blues Guitar Solo Heatmap (Free Download) (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Monday, 26 June 2023 18:55 (two years ago)

why did they choose that word why not a more normal one

J0rdan S., Monday, 26 June 2023 19:01 (two years ago)

oh ok they were even bigger before last year though

ciderpress, Monday, 26 June 2023 19:10 (two years ago)

who is the new CBA supposed to benefit?

well, the union agreed to it too. the players received bumps in the money that is split between owners and players. there is also a more stringent salary floor now, more exception money that can freely be used by tax teams, and even more money available for max deals

Chief among those gains was an expansion of Basketball Related Income, which defines the revenue pie used to determine the share players receive. For the first time since the inception of the salary cap system 40 years ago, team and league licensing revenue will be included in the BRI calculation. This is expected to add roughly $160 million to BRI for the 2023-24 season and should grow annually.

BRI will be expanded further with respect to the treatment of complimentary tickets, team watch parties, barter expenses, plaza naming rights and equity transactions. These changes are projected to add an additional $90 million to BRI for a total of $250 million next season, according to someone familiar with the CBA term sheet who was not authorized to speak publicly.

The previous CBA guaranteed players between 49% and 51% of BRI, and the players received 51% each season except for 2020-21 due to the impact of COVID-19. In the new CBA, players are expected to receive 51% of BRI throughout the agreement under the negotiated formula for “forecasted BRI.” The next NBA TV contract will greatly impact league revenue and player contracts, but players are currently projected to earn between a total of $45 billion and $50 billion in salaries and benefits during the seven-year term of the CBA.

if some owners want to prevent other owners from building super teams resulting in weird ahistorical league parody i’m not sure that’s much skin off the players backs. i do think john collins type players who are aiming to be paid big salaries that are in between the max & the exception range might have their salaries depressed. but overall i’m sure the union made a strong case to its members that they’re all going to make more money out of this

the ppl who probably will get screwed are the fans bcuz we don’t have a say in CBA negotiations

J0rdan S., Monday, 26 June 2023 19:13 (two years ago)

a lot of the stuff the second apron is preventing won’t result in players losing money, i don’t think, so much as it will result in talent being more evenly distributed throughout the league. which is why to me it’s more a question of whether this CBA is good for the consumer

J0rdan S., Monday, 26 June 2023 19:20 (two years ago)

um, parity* not parody tho let’s see how close we get to the latter…..

J0rdan S., Monday, 26 June 2023 19:20 (two years ago)

when the cap bumped and they didn’t smooth it there was a handful or two of guys who really really benefited but i don’t think there was much of a negative ripple effect for the rest of the union. the real issue was that it paved the way for durant to GS which made the league pretty boring to watch for three seasons. i’d expect this to be kinda similar in reverse — there will prob be a handful or two free agents who don’t see the kinda offers they want — but for the union in total it will all come out in the wash. and then we’ll see what it does for the “product”

J0rdan S., Monday, 26 June 2023 19:30 (two years ago)

hawks finally traded him lol

dame way to concerned with how hes gonna look coming out of this, no one cares any more dude just let go and move on

Spottie, Monday, 26 June 2023 22:14 (two years ago)

"definitely DO NOT trade me to the cities with hot babes, i absolutely hate that, and DO NOT trade me to any city that doesn't have HARSH, BRUTAL WINTERS which supplies the rage i need to succeed at this level of competition"

slai gorgeous-alexander (m bison), Monday, 26 June 2023 22:27 (two years ago)

the team in a major city with no all stars and a bunch of great role players still makes all the sense in the world….

J0rdan S., Monday, 26 June 2023 23:15 (two years ago)

yup

lag∞n, Monday, 26 June 2023 23:19 (two years ago)

i don’t understand utah’s motivation for doing this with nothing attached as a sweetener

another question... is collins better than Kelly O?

Spottie, Monday, 26 June 2023 23:37 (two years ago)

At sick alley pop dunks, yes

Heez, Tuesday, 27 June 2023 00:03 (two years ago)

yes if he's healthy

ciderpress, Tuesday, 27 June 2023 00:51 (two years ago)

His sick ally oops didn’t really suffer last year. His 3 point shot was fucked and the man can’t get post position to save his life

Heez, Tuesday, 27 June 2023 00:58 (two years ago)

Man it’s CLOSE in a lot of categories

https://stathead.com/tiny/wS89e

But I’d value Kelly Os shooting, playmaking and defense over anything Collins does besides sick jams

Spottie, Tuesday, 27 June 2023 01:06 (two years ago)

the thing with Collins is that he's got really nice touch around the basket, but he's really not smart in the post. he sucks at getting position and often takes way too long to make his move. when he gets it in a good spot and goes, he's really effective. he's also a solid defender, but doesn't have the best reach. the sick dunk thing was kind of a joke but him and trae really did have a nice pnr game. i wish him the best

Heez, Tuesday, 27 June 2023 01:31 (two years ago)

sorry for egregious reallys

Heez, Tuesday, 27 June 2023 01:31 (two years ago)

well as with many things it depends on what you need, if you're a good team looking for a backup offensive big man the answer is kelly all day but if you're a building/developing team you'd obviously take a chance on collins rediscovering his 20/10 form.

"I met with Dame and Aaron Goodwin this afternoon. We had a great dialogue. We remain committed to building a winner around Dame."

this is prob the single most annoying update they could have possibly given

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 27 June 2023 02:08 (two years ago)

according to sam amick of the athletic, dame would like one (1) jerami grant to be re-sign AND one (1) draymond green signing sounds totally reSonable why wont the blazers do it hmm makes u think thateyre acting in bad faith i guess i have no choice but to be traded to miami

slai gorgeous-alexander (m bison), Tuesday, 27 June 2023 02:31 (two years ago)

the “all i need to be happy is jerami grant and draymond green” thing is one of the best examples you’ll see of why players should never be GMs

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 27 June 2023 02:35 (two years ago)

i say this every time one of these types of reports comes out but yes, i too want a lot of different things. we all do.

call all destroyer, Tuesday, 27 June 2023 02:36 (two years ago)

if you have the opportunity to give a quarter billion dollars to jerami grant and draymond green you have to take it

Clay, Tuesday, 27 June 2023 02:40 (two years ago)

im trying to think of a precedent of a player drawing out this "i *wink* want *wink* to remain *wink* loyal" shtick as long as dame has done this
