oh ok they were even bigger before last year though

who is the new CBA supposed to benefit?
Chief among those gains was an expansion of Basketball Related Income, which defines the revenue pie used to determine the share players receive. For the first time since the inception of the salary cap system 40 years ago, team and league licensing revenue will be included in the BRI calculation. This is expected to add roughly $160 million to BRI for the 2023-24 season and should grow annually.BRI will be expanded further with respect to the treatment of complimentary tickets, team watch parties, barter expenses, plaza naming rights and equity transactions. These changes are projected to add an additional $90 million to BRI for a total of $250 million next season, according to someone familiar with the CBA term sheet who was not authorized to speak publicly. The previous CBA guaranteed players between 49% and 51% of BRI, and the players received 51% each season except for 2020-21 due to the impact of COVID-19. In the new CBA, players are expected to receive 51% of BRI throughout the agreement under the negotiated formula for “forecasted BRI.” The next NBA TV contract will greatly impact league revenue and player contracts, but players are currently projected to earn between a total of $45 billion and $50 billion in salaries and benefits during the seven-year term of the CBA.

a lot of the stuff the second apron is preventing won’t result in players losing money, i don’t think, so much as it will result in talent being more evenly distributed throughout the league. which is why to me it’s more a question of whether this CBA is good for the consumer
― J0rdan S., Monday, 26 June 2023 19:20 (two years ago)
um, parity* not parody tho let’s see how close we get to the latter…..
when the cap bumped and they didn’t smooth it there was a handful or two of guys who really really benefited but i don’t think there was much of a negative ripple effect for the rest of the union. the real issue was that it paved the way for durant to GS which made the league pretty boring to watch for three seasons. i’d expect this to be kinda similar in reverse — there will prob be a handful or two free agents who don’t see the kinda offers they want — but for the union in total it will all come out in the wash. and then we’ll see what it does for the “product”

the team in a major city with no all stars and a bunch of great role players still makes all the sense in the world….

another question... is collins better than Kelly O?
― Spottie, Monday, 26 June 2023 23:37 (two years ago)
At sick alley pop dunks, yes
― Heez, Tuesday, 27 June 2023 00:03 (two years ago)
yes if he's healthy
― ciderpress, Tuesday, 27 June 2023 00:51 (two years ago)
His sick ally oops didn’t really suffer last year. His 3 point shot was fucked and the man can’t get post position to save his life
― Heez, Tuesday, 27 June 2023 00:58 (two years ago)
Man it’s CLOSE in a lot of categorieshttps://stathead.com/tiny/wS89eBut I’d value Kelly Os shooting, playmaking and defense over anything Collins does besides sick jams
― Spottie, Tuesday, 27 June 2023 01:06 (two years ago)
the thing with Collins is that he's got really nice touch around the basket, but he's really not smart in the post. he sucks at getting position and often takes way too long to make his move. when he gets it in a good spot and goes, he's really effective. he's also a solid defender, but doesn't have the best reach. the sick dunk thing was kind of a joke but him and trae really did have a nice pnr game. i wish him the best
― Heez, Tuesday, 27 June 2023 01:31 (two years ago)
sorry for egregious reallys
well as with many things it depends on what you need, if you're a good team looking for a backup offensive big man the answer is kelly all day but if you're a building/developing team you'd obviously take a chance on collins rediscovering his 20/10 form.

according to sam amick of the athletic, dame would like one (1) jerami grant to be re-sign AND one (1) draymond green signing sounds totally reSonable why wont the blazers do it hmm makes u think thateyre acting in bad faith i guess i have no choice but to be traded to miami
― slai gorgeous-alexander (m bison), Tuesday, 27 June 2023 02:31 (two years ago)
the “all i need to be happy is jerami grant and draymond green” thing is one of the best examples you’ll see of why players should never be GMs
― J0rdan S., Tuesday, 27 June 2023 02:35 (two years ago)
i say this every time one of these types of reports comes out but yes, i too want a lot of different things. we all do.
― call all destroyer, Tuesday, 27 June 2023 02:36 (two years ago)
if you have the opportunity to give a quarter billion dollars to jerami grant and draymond green you have to take it
― Clay, Tuesday, 27 June 2023 02:40 (two years ago)
im trying to think of a precedent of a player drawing out this "i *wink* want *wink* to remain *wink* loyal" shtick as long as dame has done this
― slai gorgeous-alexander (m bison), Tuesday, 27 June 2023 02:43 (two years ago)
Dame in Miami would rule. honestly it's cute he's so concerned with looking bad by not sticking with his initial team even though virtually every star who's played that much has done it at least once. kinda like when people start leaving a party en masse and you really wanna leave too but not without saying goodbye to everyone

― call all destroyer, Tuesday, 27 June 2023 02:51 (two years ago)
my read is he doesn’t want to win “the wrong way” or be seen as a ring chaser and he’s taken that to the logical conclusion. which sure it’s nice to have integrity but not if you’re annoying and overbearing about it xp
― Clay, Tuesday, 27 June 2023 02:54 (two years ago)
hes also left it too late

seems reasonable

yeah that seems fair for both sides putting aside the part where bulls fans have to spend another three years being reminded every night that their team made one of the worst trades in recent league history

― Spottie, Wednesday, 28 June 2023 20:08 (two years ago)
feel like he prob understands that he needs to create the illusion of a market so that the mavs will max him out. i don’t think there’s a team w cap space that would actually want him

love to finalize an agreement two days before it goes into effect

― Spottie, Wednesday, 28 June 2023 20:54 (two years ago)
the last bullet point lol
The “full expectation” is Kyrie Irving will re-sign with the Mavericks once free agency begins, per @wojespn:- Legitimate places Kyrie would even consider leaving Dallas for are “extremely limited, perhaps almost nil.”- Money aspect won’t be an issue for Irving’s new deal… pic.twitter.com/lmqT8C0cME— Evan Sidery (@esidery) June 28, 2023

seems like he might look for more than the vet min, he’s 29 and has only had 3 years of non-rookie scale pay. probably not going to have a better chance to make some money.
