apparently the dillon brooks deal w houston is becoming a fairly complicated multi team trade in which houston is sending out 5 second round picks. one senses the front office there feels like they’re getting fired if they aren’t in the playoff mix this year

i mean if you have to go from worst team in the league to in the playoffs in one off-season or lose your job you just have to take an 80 million dollar flyer on the most annoying guy in the league who everybody hates also he isn't very good and you definitely send out some picks to do it, this is common wisdom

I agree about the bluffing. By not reporting to the team that owns his contract dame would not just forfeit very large sums of money, but he'd also be kicking himself out of the NBA for the duration of his holdout and making it literally impossible for him to pursue success in the playoffs or a championship ring. The longer he held out, the further he'd be from his stated goal. If he were stubborn enough to genuinely end his own career, he'd be shooting himself in both legs. That's not going to happen.

the 4 firsts and 2 quality players request for dame seems eminently achievable to me if the primary teams involved are miami and brooklyn… combined they can pretty easily make that happen tho i guess the definition of “quality player” is a slippery one. i remain convinced the hold up here is each team trying to stick the other with their bad contracts

the thing that makes me think theyre not close to a deal is how weird team dame is being about it

out of nowhere trades do happen in the NBA so i don’t wanna put too much stock in this thought, but it is interesting to me, given how much of this is playing out in the media, that there hasn’t been any reporting (that i’ve seen) about a team actually stepping up and trying to acquire dame. everyone seems to think that half the league could beat miami’s offer… but does it seem like any team really wants to? there’s been far more reporting on teams being happy to jump in and take herro than there has been on a team looking at this stalemate & trying to pry dame away from miami

i actually do believe boston would’ve been a major player but chris haynes has said flatly on a number of occasions that it’s never happening there & the boston beat writers have been saying the same thing from boston’s end too, from what i’ve seen

yeah even dame not wanting to be there aside its a pretty iffy idea too much young for old and big for little, the thing that makes miami taking on dames insane deal is they wouldnt be sacrificing as much of their future since jimmy is old too

it’s just a tough situation because the heat have no incentive to pony up good assets (or take back bad salary) when they’re not bidding against anyone, and the blazers have no incentive to rush the deal when they’re tanking this season anyway

i’m not sure ppl realize that maxey’s next contract is gonna be the 5/210 max that bane just got. if herro’s 4/120 is giving you pause (which btw it doesn’t seem to be around the league) then how does that one feel

I think the Miami deal will happen any minute. But, after the past week, I think the best possible move for Portland is to start the season with him. You can do better than two first round picks and Herro and there’s always the chance he changes his mind about other locations.
