seems like shams is saying that miami is putting its best offer on the table but theres still no traction, i guess theres no harm in portland waiting for now but i was thinking maybe miami was holding out trying to finesse a better deal

Ever since early July, sources involved in discussions who are unauthorized to speak on the matter said the Heat have been prepared to offer the Trail Blazers a package including three to four first-round picks — with Tyler Herro going to a third team for assets — expiring contracts, a young player such as Nikola Jović and potentially second-round picks and draft swaps.

The Blazer GM will almost certainly capitulate and accept Miami's offer before training camps end, but by sitting on the deal he's signaling as hard as he can that he has absolutely no choice in the matter and can't be blamed for not getting a bigger haul.

any hint of vindictiveness would only backfire on the blazers. pdx already is seen as an undesirable destination among nba players. why add a reputation for vindictiveness to that? especially since dame's reputation around the league for team loyalty is sky high.

the other aspect that could work in concert with being mad is thinking they can wait dame out until he agrees to go somewhere else for a better deal

any way you look at it this is a pretty sad end to dame's tenure in portland... he missed his chance to make this move at the point in his career when people initially would've expected him to, therefore establishing this extreme reputation for team loyalty, only for him to finally pull the trigger in a way that makes him look much worse than an earlier trade demand ever could have

I don't think viewing this as portland trying to fuck dame over would really be a fair reading...it's not like it was a mutually agreed upon trade request

maybe dame will just come back and play and everyone will forget this like the time kobe demanded a trade or duncan almost jumped to the magic
