Just watched the USA Men’s basketball team play Germany in the FIBA World Cup and I was very disappointed we loss 111-113. Now instead of playing for Gold we will be playing for Bronze.

lol just came to post that

k3vin k., Friday, 8 September 2023 18:13 (nine months ago) link

easily the worst team usa of the modern era, they have like second round talent, still the most talented team in the tourney but so far from a sure thing

lag∞n, Friday, 8 September 2023 18:17 (nine months ago) link

theyre giving josh hart 20 mins a game lol

lag∞n, Friday, 8 September 2023 18:21 (nine months ago) link

my main takeaway from this game (well the second half) is that i really have trouble w/ the idea of JJJ as one of the best defenders in the NBA. i know all the stats and block rates and stuff say he's the elite of the elite but i watch him in these kinda games and he's jumping for blocks he has no chance of getting, giving up rebounding position when the rest of the roster is tiny, in the specific instance of FIBA racking up multiple goaltending violations for smacking the backboard attempting these ridiculous blocks etc. the germans were iso-ing austin reaves and blowing by him and getting to the basket before JJJ could rotate ... maybe that's a coaching thing. but for DPOY i feel like he should be able to switch and play some perimeter defense when his team really needs it. i just don't like the way he plays defense

J0rdan S., Friday, 8 September 2023 18:40 (nine months ago) link

also didn't seem like kerr was a shining star of the tourney, to say the least

J0rdan S., Friday, 8 September 2023 18:41 (nine months ago) link

kerr sounded pretty useless and his rotations sucked

micah, Friday, 8 September 2023 22:04 (nine months ago) link

did they ask bam to play?

micah, Friday, 8 September 2023 22:05 (nine months ago) link

i don’t think anyone from the olympic team was expected to play

J0rdan S., Friday, 8 September 2023 22:25 (nine months ago) link

seems like maybe the rest of the world has come around to americas way of thinking re the olymics being more important than the world cup, lot of guys sat out this time

lag∞n, Friday, 8 September 2023 22:27 (nine months ago) link

kerr is best with his type of guys, not great at adjusting to other types of players. and def hates iso players that dont catch on quickly to moving the ball and moving without the ball.

im just not surprised at all that this team didnt win it all. the best team on paper but the gap isnt so big with our C level nba rotation dudes whove never played together and dont really care.

Guess Dillon Brooks is the best player in the world now. USA really did not have many perimeter defenders

lag∞n, Sunday, 10 September 2023 14:05 (nine months ago) link

Dillon Brooks dropped 39 points on Team USA in the bronze medal game

"It's just like Kobe Bryant... He had to figure out how to create the Black Mamba, a different persona when he comes on the court. I guess that's my persona—The Villain."

watched maybe 10 mins of this tournament and had no emotional investment in any outcome except maybe exactly dillon brooks dropping 39 on the USA to eliminate them, tough stuff

The Olympics start July 26, 2024, and Team USA is expected to have a full training camp and preseason tour to perhaps multiple countries before arriving in France. If any of the interested superstars make a deep playoff run, they would be making a massive commitment of their time and their bodies following a grueling season. James, Davis, Durant, Curry and even Lillard have all dealt with extensive injuries over the last several years.

Finally, the first part of the Olympic basketball tournament is not in Paris. It’s public knowledge, but few NBA stars may realize that the preliminary games will be played in Lille, France, a 1-hour, 40-minute train ride north from Paris.

The medal rounds will be played in Paris, but romanticizing a “last dance” for some USA Basketball legends in one of the most beautiful cities in the world is only a half-truth. There will be nights spent in the industrial town of Lille, which isn’t all that far from Belgium.

No NBA player will ever step foot anywhere near the accursed land of Belgium
