from the perspective of a lackey like marc spears I suppose dropping cryptic hints that dame (who it just turns out I’d love to secure an exclusive sitdown with for andscape) is destined to land in miami (who my puppetmasters would love to continue to be relevant for the next several years) makes sense. as it turns out the blazers ownership seems to feel differently which is why the deal which was supposedly a lock two months ago has yet to materialize

seems like the simplest explanation is that the blazers aren’t crazy about the deal and they feel like the market for dame might improve. a lot can happen over the course of the first couple of months of the season, someone tears an ACL, someone demands a trade... maybe it’s a bit of wishful thinking on their part, but evidently their tolerance for “getting uncomfortable” is higher than people thought

Eh. Pro-worker sentiment is better spent on disputes of substance, like pay and working conditions, instead of who gets to gratify his ambition for a trophy.

The whole idea in giving Lillard that super-max contract and extending it out to the bitter end of his career was that it ensured Lillard was well-rewarded for his frequently announced intention of ending his career as a Blazer. The idea that the Blazers didn't hold up their end of the bargain because the CBA rules put them into a strait jacket in regard to trades and the luxury tax (and small, white city vibe) make it extremely hard to compete for FAs is something of a stretch. But athletes like Lillard operate in a different world and under different rules than ordinary workers or even ordinary NBA starters, so to totally misapply a famous quote, "when you're a celebrity, they let you do it".
