zach collins would be a great 3rd big man but he's not a 2nd or 1st big man

call all destroyer, Saturday, 14 October 2023 01:08 (nine months ago) link

collins is a guy who loves to be injured all the time

Clay, Saturday, 14 October 2023 01:11 (nine months ago) link

k3vin k., Saturday, 14 October 2023 01:20 (nine months ago) link

counterpoint: do you know whats fun if they make the playoffs

oatly carmichael (m bison), Saturday, 14 October 2023 01:23 (nine months ago) link

Do we have to learn the names of all the other spurs or is wemby et al sufficient?

that's not my post, Saturday, 14 October 2023 01:24 (nine months ago) link

reviewing tonights wemby minutes and already a couple guys noped out of drives cause he was standing in the lane

lag∞n, Saturday, 14 October 2023 01:25 (nine months ago) link

xp

you should learn devin vassell who might lead the team in scoring this year, and sochan who is just a cool player in general, and you should already know gold medalist keldon johnson. thats p much it.

Wemby Eurostepping at the three point line which of course ends in a dunk

Hoisted by your own Picard (Leee), Monday, 16 October 2023 22:59 (nine months ago) link

still so stoked that the Spurs got him and not the Hornets or whoever

Chyiv Kyiv (Fetchboy), Tuesday, 17 October 2023 01:14 (nine months ago) link

guess this is done, i dont really understand the dynamics of this trade but whatever

The Houston Rockets are trading guard Kevin Porter Jr., and two future second-round picks to the Oklahoma City Thunder, which will immediately waive Porter, a team source confirmed. ESPN first reported the news.

The Rockets are acquiring Victor Oladipo and Jeremiah Robinson-Earl in the deal, while the Thunder receive a 2027 second-round pick via Minnesota and a 2028 second-round pick via Milwaukee.

...

The Rockets re-signed the 23-year-old to a four-year, $82.5 million extension in October.

lag∞n, Tuesday, 17 October 2023 18:21 (nine months ago) link

OKC using a woman getting beat up to leverage a salary dump & pick acquisition trade is leaving me feeling very icky

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 17 October 2023 18:23 (nine months ago) link

couldnt the rockets just waive him idgi

lag∞n, Tuesday, 17 October 2023 18:25 (nine months ago) link

i think this is so they don't have to pay him the money

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 17 October 2023 18:26 (nine months ago) link

wouldnt okc also not want to pay him tho theyre only getting two seconds, i feel like they must be pretty sure that the league will let them void his contract or something

lag∞n, Tuesday, 17 October 2023 18:29 (nine months ago) link

ugh sorry

Adrian Wojnarowski
@wojespn
The Thunder are acquiring a 2027 second via Minnesota and a 2028 second via Milwaukee in the deal, sources said. Porter Jr., is facing assault charges based on an incident with a girlfriend. OKC is essentially buying the two picks and releasing Porter Jr.

Adrian Wojnarowski
@wojespn
Thunder will have to pay the $16.9M guaranteed left on Porter Jr., contract as they waive him. OKC gathered four second-round picks in acquiring and moving Oladipo's $9.5M expiring deal this offseason. OKC has 15 first-round and 22 second-round picks over the next seven years.

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 17 October 2023 18:33 (nine months ago) link

between this and the bertans deal the thunder have taken on a shit ton of money this offseason for extremely marginal draft assets. it's not my money but i don't really get it, & this one has a sinister air to it...

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 17 October 2023 18:35 (nine months ago) link

what happened to the four year extension tho

lag∞n, Tuesday, 17 October 2023 18:35 (nine months ago) link

i guess it just wasnt guaranteed idk anyway good riddance to that guy

Essentially, the deal allows the Thunder to gather up draft assets and requires them to pay the $16.9 million of guaranteed salary left on Porter's new four-year contract -- and saves the Rockets $5.5 million in salary.

lag∞n, Tuesday, 17 October 2023 18:36 (nine months ago) link

The Thunder also received two future second-round selections when they took on Oladipo in a salary-dump deal with the Heat earlier this offseason, so they’ve essentially added four second-rounders by taking him on from Miami and then flipping him to Houston.

King shit

reggae mike love (polyphonic), Tuesday, 17 October 2023 18:36 (nine months ago) link

yeah the porter jr deal was structured specifically so that he could be cut at any point, here is an old shams tweet on it

Shams Charania
@ShamsCharania
Kevin Porter Jr.’s four-year extension is only guaranteed for $15.86 million, all in Year 1, sources said. The contract includes June trigger dates after first season, but the Rockets can essentially release Porter at any point without further pay up to the $82.5M.

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 17 October 2023 18:38 (nine months ago) link

ah there you go

lag∞n, Tuesday, 17 October 2023 18:41 (nine months ago) link

still doesnt really make sense that houston wouldnt just waive him tho

lag∞n, Tuesday, 17 October 2023 18:43 (nine months ago) link

what i bet happened is that the front office signed KPJ to a longterm deal over the objections of ownership and after it predictably blew up they were scrambling to save face so that they don't have to go and tell fertita that he has to light $16m on fire

in reality they only saved like $5 million because oladipo makes almost $10m per year. fertita is cheap but i'm not sure he's that cheap

i guess OKC didn't really take on much more money in exchange for the picks, but was it really worth the appearances of it all?

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 17 October 2023 18:54 (nine months ago) link

It theoretically improves their 2023-24 cap situation. Oladipo's contract is ideal salary ballast for a trade if they can find a building block at the deadline. I don't think they could afford to keep Porter for the same purpose.

reggae mike love (polyphonic), Tuesday, 17 October 2023 19:05 (nine months ago) link

yeah true

lag∞n, Tuesday, 17 October 2023 19:06 (nine months ago) link

While professional and engaged when present, James Harden has not attended any of the 76ers' preseason games and has participated in just one team practice scrimmage over 14 days of training camp, sources say. @Stadium NBA season preview show: https://t.co/m5FuxyMu1U

just thinkin bout the nba and dame-giannis is one of the alltime great offensive pairings right considering talent and fit

lag∞n, Tuesday, 17 October 2023 23:10 (nine months ago) link

like you can just not do all the sub optimal giannis possessions theres no reason anymore for him to do a bunch of dribbling into some dumb mid range fade away at least while dame is on the floor giannis can just play a big man game, that pick and roll will be completely unstoppable

lag∞n, Tuesday, 17 October 2023 23:18 (nine months ago) link

oh, they're absolutely unstoppable in what is as yet an imaginary future. the truly fun thing is that we can watch it unfold month by month and it will be interesting to see no matter the outcome

more difficult than I look (Aimless), Tuesday, 17 October 2023 23:41 (nine months ago) link

standard health cavats aside i cant see them being anything less than great on offense together, bucks defense and supporting cast has some questions marks tho

lag∞n, Wednesday, 18 October 2023 01:14 (nine months ago) link

dame beasley backcourt is pretty flamable tho they do have giannis-lopez behind them which is good

lag∞n, Wednesday, 18 October 2023 01:16 (nine months ago) link

maybe dame will try to play defense

ya it seems like it would suck to be in the eastern conference (;

k3vin k., Wednesday, 18 October 2023 04:46 (nine months ago) link

tho like all these super teams they’re very dependent upon the health of their main dudes, both of those dudes have been pretty healthy but the thing about health is that it gets worse with age so previous success is no guarantee. I’d still rather be the celtics tbh

k3vin k., Wednesday, 18 October 2023 04:49 (nine months ago) link

I like the Celtics better too. More balanced, better defenders, younger.

infinite wiggles (Spottie), Wednesday, 18 October 2023 05:51 (nine months ago) link
