Kevin Porter Jr.’s four-year extension is only guaranteed for $15.86 million, all in Year 1, sources said. The contract includes June trigger dates after first season, but the Rockets can essentially release Porter at any point without further pay up to the $82.5M.

what i bet happened is that the front office signed KPJ to a longterm deal over the objections of ownership and after it predictably blew up they were scrambling to save face so that they don't have to go and tell fertita that he has to light $16m on fire

in reality they only saved like $5 million because oladipo makes almost $10m per year. fertita is cheap but i'm not sure he's that cheap

i guess OKC didn't really take on much more money in exchange for the picks, but was it really worth the appearances of it all?

It theoretically improves their 2023-24 cap situation. Oladipo's contract is ideal salary ballast for a trade if they can find a building block at the deadline. I don't think they could afford to keep Porter for the same purpose.

just thinkin bout the nba and dame-giannis is one of the alltime great offensive pairings right considering talent and fit

like you can just not do all the sub optimal giannis possessions theres no reason anymore for him to do a bunch of dribbling into some dumb mid range fade away at least while dame is on the floor giannis can just play a big man game, that pick and roll will be completely unstoppable

oh, they're absolutely unstoppable in what is as yet an imaginary future. the truly fun thing is that we can watch it unfold month by month and it will be interesting to see no matter the outcome

standard health cavats aside i cant see them being anything less than great on offense together, bucks defense and supporting cast has some questions marks tho

tho like all these super teams they’re very dependent upon the health of their main dudes, both of those dudes have been pretty healthy but the thing about health is that it gets worse with age so previous success is no guarantee. I’d still rather be the celtics tbh

was just thinking about guys like hunter draft reaches described as "low ceiling high floor" and ive decided thats just not a thing if you have low ceiling thats because youre less talented which also means you have low floor

i think its a real thing with 4 year guys you just have so much more info about their game to work with, high floor just means a low chance of busting out of the league completely

hunter isnt one of those though so idk what people were on about

the hunter pick was a case of trying too hard to be perfect…like worrying about who fits w/trae young way more than just finding the most talented player.

feel like groupthink is another big reason teams reach for supposedly solid guys high in the draft, theres an accepted list of high upside guys and if theyre all used up so you take a solid guy at 6 and then devin booker goes 13th, teams are afraid to break with orthodoxy, personally if im drafting 6 im the gm the big guy and all the sure things are off the board im taking a shot on a guy i think has a chance to be great

i don’t think hunter was a case of being too cute about fit. in their minds they thought they were drafting the kinda 3/4 wing 3 and D player that fits on any team regardless of the roster. the problem is that hunter is a pretty average player & they compounded the mistake by giving him an extension

i won’t kill them for not taking garland bcuz i don’t think that’s a viable backcourt. i will say tho that the entire league except one team whiffed on cam johnson and if the hawks had taken him instead they would be in a much better place. he’s not the lockdown defender the hawks thought hunter would be but that’s pretty much the player they wanted to get

well, i didn't have as good luck in my draft seeding in our company wolves tickets lottery, so i'm gonna go see the pistons. still was lucky, i got the 15th and final set of ticket available and they are very good seats (row M of the first deck) and you get a pair for $120 so pretty sweet either way
