always been a bit shaky off ball too

lag∞n, Tuesday, 23 January 2024 19:30 (one year ago)

celtics have really been generating amazing 3pt looks recently, and doing it easily in the course of their daily business, theyre up to 6th in 3pt% where they were down in the teens most of the season, and they take the most 3s in the league, pretty nice, the much maligned drive and kick game is producing good team play

its an interesting choice to basically not challenge at the rim rather kick it out and look for the open man when the defense collapses, theyre 27th in rim attempts but 6th in rim percentage, seems like they could press the issue on a few more of those contested layups, on the other hand they are the #1 rated offense according to dunks and threes

and they take the fewest middies, which is interesting considering the jays are both known for those shots, a lot of the aforementioned kicking out prob replaces floaters which is nice, floaters are hard

re the drive and kick game mazzulla has said the issue with it getting gummed up in tight spots had more to do with the celtics not really having anything else they do beside just like dumping the ball to tatum, which was the inspiration for hunting mismatches in the post this year particularly with zinger, i think theyre up to second in post touches where they were way down at the bottom of the league last year, its an interesting way to look at it just having more modes you can play in so the defense cant figure you out, makes sense, particularly considering the celtics dont have an unstoppable guy like most contenders tend to

ha theres an article in the athletic today about that very thing

It was a glimpse of the Celtics’ newfound offensive flexibility, which should give them another tool during their matchups against the Miami Heat. That’s why, when asked what part of last season’s playoff series against Miami informed his approach to this season, Mazzulla pointed back to the Celtics’ win against the Rockets. With Boston set to play the Heat on Thursday, the topic was timely.

“Teams that are smaller, switchable, physical, do we have a different package to be able to go to?” Mazzulla said. “I thought the Houston game was the epitome of that to where we can play out of the post and we can play nail iso and we can force different types of matchups. So I think that’s the biggest thing, is as you get into the playoffs how can we find more easy baskets? How can we play more physical? How can we make matchups harder? Our post spacing is probably the thing we’ve done the most.”

The Celtics rarely posted up last season. They have done it more than any team except Nikola Jokić’s Denver Nuggets this season and have been extremely efficient with those opportunities. The Porziņģis acquisition, which brought in one of the league’s best low-post scorers, helped lead Boston in such a direction, but the change in offensive approach can also be traced back to the Eastern Conference finals loss to Miami. The Celtics offense, which scored a robust 117.3 points per 100 possessions throughout the regular season and even more than that over the first two rounds of the playoffs, lacked consistency throughout that series. After Jayson Tatum injured his ankle early in Game 7, the Celtics scored just 84 points while losing the deciding game on their home floor.

When the Celtics returned to Toronto to face the Raptors Jan. 15, Oshae Brissett’s grandmother again prepared the team’s entire postgame spread, a Jamaican-themed meal consisting of foods such as oxtail and curry goat. The locker room was silent, because just about everyone was eating.

BOSTON — Joe Mazzulla likes to fight. Sometimes he engages in jiu-jitsu. Other times, he battles against what he considers false narratives surrounding his Boston Celtics.

lag∞n, Tuesday, 30 January 2024 16:36 (one year ago)

nice win last night btw, they were in grave danger of losing three in a row at home after starting 20-0, but they put together a double digi 4th quarter comeback vs a quality team so kudos to them

lag∞n, Tuesday, 30 January 2024 17:05 (one year ago)

big matchup between the two teams i have been a life long fan of tonight when the boston celtics host the indiana pacers at 730pm eastern time on tnt, reports indicate that tyrese hailburton will make his return from a grade 1 hamstring injury

lag∞n, Tuesday, 30 January 2024 17:11 (one year ago)

no word on zinger but they said he was close last night so maybe hell play tonight

lag∞n, Tuesday, 30 January 2024 17:11 (one year ago)

it’s a little frightening how much better they are when zinger’s on the floor and conversely how much worse they are when he’s not

Humanitarian Pause (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 30 January 2024 17:13 (one year ago)

tho tbf they’ve still been getting good looks, just not knocking them down

Humanitarian Pause (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 30 January 2024 17:14 (one year ago)

yeah he really takes them to the next level, and yeah hes missed a lot of games, its all been very minor stuff, hopefully he will play every playoff game tho.......

i had been feeling like they had been playing an absolute ton of games, nice to have it confirmed

The Celtics just completed a stretch of 15 games in 26 nights. They finished it 11-4 with a net rating of nearly 9. The schedule opens up a bit from here.

apparently pritchard had a similar event there this year that was cheaper lol

Baby, I just booked us a table for Valentine's dinner. It's a surprise but don't worry you're gonna love it. Wear that cute red dress I like and bring an unsigned Sam Hauser rookie card.

Humanitarian Pause (Tracer Hand), Thursday, 8 February 2024 09:02 (one year ago)

al looking spry out there

lag∞n, Thursday, 8 February 2024 15:09 (one year ago)

article in the athletic points out that tillman gives them another guy besides horf who stout enough to guard big centers your embiids of the world, which yeah thats important to have, zinger gets bodied by bam let alone a real big boys like joker, kornet doesnt have the foot speed to stay with those guys

lag∞n, Thursday, 8 February 2024 15:19 (one year ago)

yeah tillman's a beefy dude, enforcer bodytype

would be nice to have one more wing but i like prioritizing big man depth, keep horf and zinger as fresh as possible for the offs

Lavator Shemmelpennick, Thursday, 8 February 2024 15:35 (one year ago)

bet theyll add another wing today, tho who know if they can actually get someone better that brissett with what they have to offer

lag∞n, Thursday, 8 February 2024 15:41 (one year ago)

in a way getting tillman should take some pressure off the wing rotation as he allows them to go big more play two big one wing two guard lineups

lag∞n, Thursday, 8 February 2024 15:45 (one year ago)

also rumors of getting kris dunn which would be insurance against pritchard not holding up on defense which is def something that can happen

lag∞n, Thursday, 8 February 2024 15:46 (one year ago)

and he jrue and derrick are all big so that could take some pressure off the wing rotation from the other end too, roll out some three guard lineups occasionally

lag∞n, Thursday, 8 February 2024 15:47 (one year ago)
