maybe we don’t want something like that called with three seconds left — and possibly they’d been letting that go all night, idk — but in a vacuum that was absolutely a foul

this one, however, yeesh

They called this foul against UCONN btw, I need a Congressional investigation tomorrow pic.twitter.com/6EjJ4oOEtZ

i really don’t think there’s a ref conspiracy against *connecticut women’s basketball* you guys

the defenestration of prog (voodoo chili), Saturday, 6 April 2024 14:09 (two months ago) link

we accidentally recorded the Taurasi/Bird show version of the game, which really highlighted how poorly Uconn women's basketball is treated

if theres a conspiracy the motivation to get catlin clark in the final outweighs the historical primacy of uconn by many multiples

bad play

This angle doesn’t help my argument 😂😂😂😂😂 pic.twitter.com/W6jIjCSv9m

Uconn played an aggressive style that will always dare the refs to make a call. They can't complain when the risk of their gameplan is realized.

145 feet up in a Jeffrey Pine (Sufjan Grafton), Saturday, 6 April 2024 16:56 (two months ago) link

yeah idk with any other team i might agree with you, but uconn brings the whole northeast

the defenestration of prog (voodoo chili), Saturday, 6 April 2024 17:26 (two months ago) link

speaking as a northeast resident there is not some big uconn womens hoops fandom, or even the mens team for that matter, maybe in connecticut i remember talking to a guy there once who was into it, but catlin clark is so easily the biggest phenomenon the sport has seen

lag∞n, Saturday, 6 April 2024 17:40 (two months ago) link

people who dont watch basketball have unprompted talked to me about her

lag∞n, Saturday, 6 April 2024 17:41 (two months ago) link

if there was a conspiracy here, then it must have included the UConn player who set the flagrantly moving body slam screen that picked off the Iowa defender

more difficult than I look (Aimless), Saturday, 6 April 2024 17:44 (two months ago) link

it’s been pretty big in westchester/nyc metro for a couple of decades now, not to mention connecticut, where the worldwide leader happens to be based. back to rebecca lobo for more updates

the defenestration of prog (voodoo chili), Saturday, 6 April 2024 17:45 (two months ago) link

are we talking about the part of nyc metro thats in stamford here

lag∞n, Saturday, 6 April 2024 17:49 (two months ago) link

where i grew up: westchester county, north of the bronx, west of conn

the defenestration of prog (voodoo chili), Saturday, 6 April 2024 17:55 (two months ago) link

it has been a thing in the city too for a while.

no denying that caitlin clark is the most popular and compelling star the women’s game has possibly ever had, but uconn is the establishment. the sport’s notre dame football, lakers/celtics, yankees, etc

the defenestration of prog (voodoo chili), Saturday, 6 April 2024 17:57 (two months ago) link

as it was written baby

brony james (k3vin k.), Saturday, 6 April 2024 17:58 (two months ago) link

there is no yankees of womens hoops, which is why were you to do a conspiracy to put someone in the champ game you would push the button for catlin clark, so that some day there can been a womens hoops yankees

lag∞n, Saturday, 6 April 2024 18:10 (two months ago) link

kevin k notable basketball fan and uconn alum had not even watched a uconn womens game this season before yesterday, which is frankly speaking shameful

lag∞n, Saturday, 6 April 2024 18:21 (two months ago) link

uconn women have won 10 championships in the last 25 years and reached the final four 10 *other* times. they're a lot more dominant than the yankees

mookieproof, Saturday, 6 April 2024 18:34 (two months ago) link

they last failed to make the sweet sixteen in . . . 1993

mookieproof, Saturday, 6 April 2024 18:37 (two months ago) link

the yankees are famous

lag∞n, Saturday, 6 April 2024 18:45 (two months ago) link

we needed to call in an extra server at my bar last night because it was so busy for the *women’s final four game* and it wasn’t uconn fans despite their quarter century of dominance. Clark is a phenomenon that’s moving the sport into the mainstream. why oh why would the powers that be want that to persist

Clay, Saturday, 6 April 2024 19:27 (two months ago) link

fwiw i think we can all agree that its great womens hoops is getting some shine

ofc they're pleased to have one more game that showcases Clark and draws more viewers as a result. more viewers makes more money. but their pleasure didn't generate the foul call. an obvious and undeniable offensive foul generated that call.

in any case iowa is gonna get smoked by (U)SC, right?

mookieproof, Saturday, 6 April 2024 20:45 (two months ago) link

I’d really like to see UConn get beat tonight, but Alabama is so helter skelter, you never know.
I’d think it will take a Rollie Vnova game to beat UConn.

Matt Painter is from where I grew up with, so I saw him play in high school at Delta. Even being an IU alumni, I can’t cheer against the old PU in this case, but I’d be ok with NC state winning it all as I definitely don’t want UConn to win another or hear that roll tide bs.

yeah it is tbf, I don’t really do college sports at all any more except for the tourney. uconn being dominant again could potentially change that tho

what do the college ball knowers think about edey? I’m not seeing a future NBA starter but what do I know

brony james (k3vin k.), Saturday, 6 April 2024 22:56 (two months ago) link

needs more crab dribble

lag∞n, Saturday, 6 April 2024 23:09 (two months ago) link

Mark Eaton had a good NBA career, but the modern NBA is not kind to players who resemble him. Watching Edey I'm sure he has more skills than Tacko Fall did and he can probably find a niche somewhere, but I, too, doubt he'll be a starter unless he keeps developing year after year during and beyond his rookie contract. His height & size won't give him nearly as much of an advantage as it has in college.

more difficult than I look (Aimless), Saturday, 6 April 2024 23:09 (two months ago) link

just doesn’t seem like he moves well. and he’s about to turn 22 already it’s not like he’s getting more athletic

brony james (k3vin k.), Saturday, 6 April 2024 23:14 (two months ago) link

he’s gonna be the heaviest person in the nba as soon as he’s drafted, which is something.

he’s not a great defender, despite his size, and he can muscle his way to the hoop and draw fouls, but he’s not gonna be officiated the same way in the league. i don’t really see it with him, maybe he can stick as a bench big

the defenestration of prog (voodoo chili), Saturday, 6 April 2024 23:17 (two months ago) link

Hard to identify an elite skill he could bring with him right away. He'd have to develop further if he's ever going to stick.

more difficult than I look (Aimless), Saturday, 6 April 2024 23:24 (two months ago) link

looked at a couple mock drafts and he's listed as a high second rounder so i don't think anyone's seeing a whole lot there
