what do the college ball knowers think about edey? I’m not seeing a future NBA starter but what do I know

brony james (k3vin k.), Saturday, 6 April 2024 22:56 (two months ago) link

needs more crab dribble

lag∞n, Saturday, 6 April 2024 23:09 (two months ago) link

Mark Eaton had a good NBA career, but the modern NBA is not kind to players who resemble him. Watching Edey I'm sure he has more skills than Tacko Fall did and he can probably find a niche somewhere, but I, too, doubt he'll be a starter unless he keeps developing year after year during and beyond his rookie contract. His height & size won't give him nearly as much of an advantage as it has in college.

more difficult than I look (Aimless), Saturday, 6 April 2024 23:09 (two months ago) link

just doesn’t seem like he moves well. and he’s about to turn 22 already it’s not like he’s getting more athletic

brony james (k3vin k.), Saturday, 6 April 2024 23:14 (two months ago) link

he’s gonna be the heaviest person in the nba as soon as he’s drafted, which is something.

he’s not a great defender, despite his size, and he can muscle his way to the hoop and draw fouls, but he’s not gonna be officiated the same way in the league. i don’t really see it with him, maybe he can stick as a bench big

the defenestration of prog (voodoo chili), Saturday, 6 April 2024 23:17 (two months ago) link

Hard to identify an elite skill he could bring with him right away. He'd have to develop further if he's ever going to stick.

more difficult than I look (Aimless), Saturday, 6 April 2024 23:24 (two months ago) link

looked at a couple mock drafts and he's listed as a high second rounder so i don't think anyone's seeing a whole lot there

Edey does have some touch at the line. It probably depends on the team. Kenny Smith was saying a coach might try to use him as a change of pace type player and maybe try a traditional inside game setup.

Guy at work who is a big time NBA follower said to me the modern spacing will kill him as they will just drive past him as he too slow to stop them.

I don’t know hoop enough to say either way.

some tall guys in the final four

lag∞n, Sunday, 7 April 2024 00:52 (two months ago) link

clingan’s feel and activity under the rim is just on a different level from edey. can definitely see a role for him in the league—if walker kessler can succeed, cling kong certainly can

^^ yeah I think this is the rub, he’s going to be in tough shape in space

so i knew that a local place that makes good sandwiches had a special named after a uconn player who's from the same town, assuming nothing i did not realize he's actually one of their starters (#11, white forward who can shoot it a bit)

lag∞n, Sunday, 7 April 2024 20:16 (two months ago) link

Iowa came out hot as blazes, torched SC in the first quarter and built a 12 point lead, but since then it's been all SC pounding the boards and outscoring Iowa by about 16. I think that second quarter provides the better clue as to what the second half will look like. South Carolina's rebounding, bench depth and all around athleticism seems unbeatable unless Clark goes nuclear.

more difficult than I look (Aimless), Sunday, 7 April 2024 20:19 (two months ago) link

the whole nation is waiting for clark to drop the bomb

hard agree.

and congrats to SC's women, who were perfect this season. as for Clark, she beat Maravich's record and is already a legend, so she has nothing to be down about.
