porzingis was having a lot of issues with his free throw line game in the heat series and SVG was theorizing that in the playoffs the refs let guys get into your body way more and it makes that shot difficult. curious when zinger is back how that goes, i do feel like embiid has issues getting position in the playoffs when guys are more liable to really battle him

stans rant on zingers post up troubles in that series was kinda misguided i thought, he was having trouble with the ft line and above post ups but the problem was he was posting up at the ft line and above, he was good posting up in the middle this year when he was at least a step or two in the paint, so i think getting position was the real problem, but thats also an indication of the celtics not following the process they had success with during the season when they werent just running regular zinger post ups where he fights for position against his man, they were finding them in the flow and against mismatches mostly, so itd look more like zinger ducking in after an initial action for another guy and getting a good mismatch later in the clock, as to why the celtics went away from that idk maybe they thought they had some advantage there that they didnt really have

tho tbf in principle what stan was saying is prob true i just dont think it was really zingers problem

you can see theres not that much at the ft line and above and its not til he gets deep that he really goes nuts

sides are narrow and he is a big dude makes sense scientifically

they were finding them in the flow and against mismatches mostly

in the playoffs there is less flow and fewer mismatches, you need to be able to force your offence at times

teams that succeed in the regular season on motion and vibes normally struggle in the offs. pacers an example of this of course but the warriors (among many other teams) also had this problem, even at their peak

exception being maybe the beautiful game spurs but they had their share of individually dominant players too

yeah i dont expect the celtics to be as good on offense for that very reason but the good news they were an insanely good offense so theyve got some wiggle room, and all their main guys can attack under their own power so in that sense theyre not a typical ball movement offense which makes them resilient against typical playoff tricks, you saw in the miami series where the heat were selling on tatum and white went nuts, where theyre more vulnerable is that they just dont have that super reliable late shot clock guy/play who can just get a good look every time, theres no murry/jokic pick and roll, they have to keep playing good offense for the whole clock which they havent always done, i suspect if they win it all this year youll see them playing elite defense, which is something they can def do

yeah i guess with zingis out they will need to lean into a more aggresive switchy defence

theyre quite switchy already but yeah def more sans zinger

i think they can win the east without him but they need him back to win it all

yeah just noticed that tillman has not played at all

seems like theyre going with kornet but could see tillman getting some burn depending on the matchup

yeah tillman i think would only play as a specialist in a certain matchup, he just hasn't had enough time with the team. kornet has played enough over the past couple years where he can play with any personnel group and they know what he can do on both offense and defense.

korent has been great celtics making the end of their rotation work with some pretty random guys is huge

he's a cool story, had to come back in via the g-league and has become a reliable backup center who doesn't really have bad games

dont think the celtics will have much trouble with either of them but id rather they play the cavs just cause the magic are so physical theres no need to see that
