i think most GM types are already too sanitized to be interesting even before they get trained for TV. these guys are boring in public for a living.

the nuggets/wolves coverage has been extra annoying just because these bizarre jeckyll & hyde games really feed into the current "go apeshit shouting and overreact to whatever happened in the last game" post stephen a smith paradigm

i've been getting push notifications before and after every knicks' game that tell me about stephen a's feelings. the one before game 5: "knicks in trouble? stephen a. smith explains why he believes winning could be a challenge moving forward"; after game 5: "stephen a. gets hyped with mad dog and perk after knicks win"; and now before game 6: "why stephen a thinks celtics should want knicks matchup next"

if i wanted to know what he thought i'd text him myself!

yeah of all the major sports I think hoops is the most predictable but there's just no telling what's gonna happen here. on the treadmill usually First Take is on, they talked about "whos gonna win" for 20 minutes, luckily I had my headphones in because I really have no clue what they could possibly be talking about for that long

stephan a was bizarre this morning, he had legler and monica mcnutt on and he literally wouldn't talk about the game he was fixated on how joker had been standing on the sidelines and staring and he said this was some ominous message of death for the wolves and he just wouldn't drop it mcnutt in particular seemed to be frustrated

listening to the lowe post hes like jayson tatum is a top ten player but hes closer to ten than one hes just not as good at getting shots as the other top guys left in the playoffs he cant get shots like jokic or donic... maybe not like playoff ant... uh brunson

thats why we listen to the smart guy podcast, counting ability

hes not wrong ive made the same point myself but the number of super elite shot creator is just very small, considering lukas current physical state there might just be one left playing, and theres a good chance he only has one game left

what’s happened to lowe is truly a cautionary tale about starting a TV career.

hes become a narrative guy, but even by the very low standards of sports narrative hes not good at it

listening to him and the timberwolves guy trying to act all amused at the wolves ownership snafu was tough couldnt do it

i think this is right, PTI was fun and the right mix of intelligent/irreverent at its peak, now he's just another old guy

Pti and around the horn was fun for a moment in time. Really hard to be a sports generalist and sound smart now there’s too many specifics that’s have lapped these guys 100 times over. Steven a gets away w it cos he’s an entertainer first and does a good job selling whatever he’s saying, but I’m not going to Steven a for sound takes and wisdom.

it's been a tough playoffs for the espn superstar narrative machine that's for sure, even the one blueblood market left in the celtics they always seem oddly unenthusiastic about

yeah they shouldve gotten behind this celtics team instead of deciding they were tired of them now what do they have left luka, sad

theyll prob change their minds about the celtics over the course of the pacers series if its going well, what other choice do they have

he was good last year IMO. this year he went the way of "old media" and started making it about annoying and hot takes for engagement. maybe he'll settle down and get back to basics.

he USUALLY always come back after being a dummy like this and admits to being a dummy. but we'll see. its crazy the rudy thing was a pretty safe bet but the wolves have surprised us all.
