the leon rose knicks have made like 2.first round picks in 4 seasons, so i wasn’t expecting them to sit on their assets. bridges was legitimately a great third banana with the suns, and now he returns to that role. lessens the offensive burden on everyone, plus he’s just 27 and on a reasonable contract for the next couple years (his almost definite desire to re-sign in a couple years also means they could move on from randle if they feel they need to)

without complete details on the picks it's a comical overpay for mikal bridges but i think it also makes sense? it's not a championship team but it's a really good team, and they are so locked in on everything it's not as if they are going to be relying on the draft anytime soon

i think theyre contenders with this roster, assuming they resign og they prob cant keep hartenstein but they have robinson, theyre prob not as good as the best teams but theyre in the mix

yeah I think it makes total sense for them honestly. mikal is a workhorse and is close with half their rotation, and fits really well. they’re going all in when their best players are in their mid to late 20s, winning a chip is tough but you gotta make these kinds of moves

problem is he can prob get more than the $16m that the knicks can offer and from a cap perspective the knicks would prob rather just keep robinson since if they trade him they have to take equal money back anyway

yeah this is the thing, they're leaning into thibs-style roster construction and i don't think it works at the highest levels. they need hartenstein back and they need to figure out how to get something thibs will actually use for randle. and even if those things happen they still need to get lucky with other teams injuries and matchups.

The implications of the Rockets landing the Suns' picks? Houston wants to trade for Kevin Durant and that becomes far easier if they can return the Suns' picks that they gave up in the Durant deal to the Nets. Suns have said they're keeping Durant for now, but that could change…

the woj narration of the suns-rockets trade, announcing the durant stuff was just very weird

i think it would be hard to argue against the statement that this knicks team w/ bridges & OG matches up the best w boston of any team in the east & it’s not particularly close

feels like a huge aspect of this trade is whether bridges can actually be a legit no 2 scorer on a good team or if some of the nets stuff particularly from right after the trade was a mirage. bcuz the main thing the knicks need imo is an ability to take some of the offensive burden off brunson

listening to tim bontemps say that the knicks “tremendously” and “dramatically” overpaid for bridges but based on the reports from over the past few years on the offers the nets previously turned down for him i just don’t think that is true. the market for him has always been well in excess of two first round picks

the argument is that trading five first round picks for a player who has never been an all star is bad but the rest of the league has clearly long valued bridges at the level of an all star player. or if you look at some “all stars” like lavine, garland, even trae (i’ll remove the scare quotes for trae) … the markets for these players are way less robust than it was for bridges, i think we can feel pretty confident saying that even as extreme outsiders. so that argument doesn’t really fly for me

i mean its a big overpay as far as on court value is concerned, of course thats kind of a complicated formula weve seen teams shell out big for that last piece before but never this big, i dont think bridges will be a rock solid #2 option, however if the knicks can find a way to play really good team offense they might just have enough

shd be noted that the picks the knicks sent out are nice four unprotecteds one top four protected and an unprotected swap, thats a lot more than what the celtics traded for jrue

all trades are huge overpays now, bridges himself was part of a huge overpay, so idk what to make of that aspect. it’s just the way the league is structured at the moment. but compared to i.e. gobert it seems like there were a number of teams offering like three firsts or more for bridges over the years so from a market perspective it just doesn’t seem that crazy to me

bridges is on a 2/48 deal the next two seasons which is crazy especially in 25-26 when lots of guys like desmond bane etc are in the $40m+ range. given that + his age i understand why he got a haul well above jrue even if bridges is less proven in the role of “final championship piece.” and even assuming the knicks give him a huge extension whenever he is eligible
