Another massive deal: Brooklyn has a deal with Houston to return the Nets’ 2026 first-round pick for a 2027 Phoenix Suns first-round pick, sources tell ESPN. Rockets also acquire 2025 right to swap Houston/OKC first for 2025 Suns first-round pick. More details coming on picks… pic.twitter.com/qkTh3KwV63

woj is really cooking tonight

Clay, Wednesday, 26 June 2024 04:26 (four months ago) link

the woj narration of the suns-rockets trade, announcing the durant stuff was just very weird

slob wizard (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 26 June 2024 09:50 (four months ago) link

i think it would be hard to argue against the statement that this knicks team w/ bridges & OG matches up the best w boston of any team in the east & it’s not particularly close

slob wizard (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 26 June 2024 09:54 (four months ago) link

feels like a huge aspect of this trade is whether bridges can actually be a legit no 2 scorer on a good team or if some of the nets stuff particularly from right after the trade was a mirage. bcuz the main thing the knicks need imo is an ability to take some of the offensive burden off brunson

slob wizard (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 26 June 2024 09:56 (four months ago) link

listening to tim bontemps say that the knicks “tremendously” and “dramatically” overpaid for bridges but based on the reports from over the past few years on the offers the nets previously turned down for him i just don’t think that is true. the market for him has always been well in excess of two first round picks

slob wizard (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 26 June 2024 11:01 (four months ago) link

the argument is that trading five first round picks for a player who has never been an all star is bad but the rest of the league has clearly long valued bridges at the level of an all star player. or if you look at some “all stars” like lavine, garland, even trae (i’ll remove the scare quotes for trae) … the markets for these players are way less robust than it was for bridges, i think we can feel pretty confident saying that even as extreme outsiders. so that argument doesn’t really fly for me

slob wizard (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 26 June 2024 11:07 (four months ago) link

i mean its a big overpay as far as on court value is concerned, of course thats kind of a complicated formula weve seen teams shell out big for that last piece before but never this big, i dont think bridges will be a rock solid #2 option, however if the knicks can find a way to play really good team offense they might just have enough

lag∞n, Wednesday, 26 June 2024 11:32 (four months ago) link

I can't judge this until they make their other moves.

Jeff, Wednesday, 26 June 2024 11:34 (four months ago) link

celtics sent out the equivalent of four first round picks for jrue holiday last summer and no one batted an eye fwiw people loved it in fact and indeed it was good

lag∞n, Wednesday, 26 June 2024 11:38 (four months ago) link

shd be noted that the picks the knicks sent out are nice four unprotecteds one top four protected and an unprotected swap, thats a lot more than what the celtics traded for jrue

lag∞n, Wednesday, 26 June 2024 11:54 (four months ago) link

all trades are huge overpays now, bridges himself was part of a huge overpay, so idk what to make of that aspect. it’s just the way the league is structured at the moment. but compared to i.e. gobert it seems like there were a number of teams offering like three firsts or more for bridges over the years so from a market perspective it just doesn’t seem that crazy to me

slob wizard (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 26 June 2024 11:59 (four months ago) link

bridges is on a 2/48 deal the next two seasons which is crazy especially in 25-26 when lots of guys like desmond bane etc are in the $40m+ range. given that + his age i understand why he got a haul well above jrue even if bridges is less proven in the role of “final championship piece.” and even assuming the knicks give him a huge extension whenever he is eligible

slob wizard (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 26 June 2024 12:02 (four months ago) link

Can they keep Randle and resign Anunoby? Where would they both play?

il lavoro mi rovina la giornata (PBKR), Wednesday, 26 June 2024 12:09 (four months ago) link

27 year old bridges is worth more on paper than 33 year old jrue, can he really fulfill all the claims that make him so valuable well we dont really know, i think youd rather know when making a trade this big, if one of the claims is that hes a championship level #2 option i think thats just a definitive no, jaylen brown kyrie irving jamal murray hes not on those guys level, can he be an elite versatile switchable defender whos a high level swiss army knife type guy on offense, def seems doable, is that guy worth what the knicks sent out prob not, but maybe hes worth it to the knicks

starting five is prob robinson-randle-og-bridges-brunson

lag∞n, Wednesday, 26 June 2024 12:18 (four months ago) link

trade randle? would be nice doubt youd be able to get enough back tho dont think hes the most popular player, which makes sense since hes bad

lag∞n, Wednesday, 26 June 2024 12:26 (four months ago) link

still think they’re gonna trade robinson for relatively cheap. also don’t think they’d trade randle as a salary dump or even for an awkward roster fit. he theoretically slots in pretty well next to all these guys, and they’ll need his rebounding. more likely they let him walk when his contract ends in ‘26

the defenestration of prog (voodoo chili), Wednesday, 26 June 2024 14:24 (four months ago) link

the thing about the randle ihart situation is if someone offers ihart more than $16m a year hes prob gonna take it, talk of okc trying to get him

lag∞n, Wednesday, 26 June 2024 15:52 (four months ago) link

love mitch rob but if you have him you need two startable centers, due to his injury and free throw issues

the defenestration of prog (voodoo chili), Wednesday, 26 June 2024 15:59 (four months ago) link

hartenstein offered a lot more on offense and wasn't so much of a dropoff on defense, plus he could be more or less trusted at the ft line

the defenestration of prog (voodoo chili), Wednesday, 26 June 2024 16:00 (four months ago) link

if the knicks didn't hate drafting in the first round, i'd think they'd try to package their 24 & 25 picks to get into the mid teens to try for a upside big like kel'el ware

The Miami Heat and Bam Adebayo – a three-time All-Star and three-time All-Defensive player – intend to reach a three-year, $166 million maximum contract extension, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium. OG Anunoby will return to the Knicks on a massive 5-year, $212 million deal

reggae mike love (polyphonic), Wednesday, 26 June 2024 22:27 (four months ago) link

that is an insane contract but for a team that is right there*, it makes sense. similar to the haul they gave up for bridges, which is why “market price” is a misleading term imo — there are only a handful of teams desperate enough to make a deal like that.) OG

*analogous maybe to MPJ’s max, which is an overpay objectively but he was a crucial piece to a title

slob wizard (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 26 June 2024 23:25 (four months ago) link

people on twitter seem to like deni

This is a shocker. Deni improved tremendously last season and I think he has way more upside left in him. Currently not a fan of this move but the asset return is enticing. https://t.co/YIoW1rmh9y

— Wizards Film Room (@KevinFolliNBA) June 26, 2024

and then theres this

I've got the Trail Blazers about $4.2M under the luxury tax after swapping Malcolm Brogdon and the 14th pick for Deni Avdija.

The Blazers had to get out of the tax this year. To pick up a nice fit in Avdija at a position of need is good work.
